Public 24x servers are not easy to maintain. with 12v12, people loading/joining/leaving, and the inevitable idiots, teams feel very small. If you have more than a few idiots or more than a few people leave, suddenly its 8v5 and the place empties out. All three of our servers are 32x, stock

It's just that people aren't configuring the respawn times for payload and attack/defend cp maps properly. Our 24/7 goldrush server has 'fast respawn', with the blue team respawning in 3 seconds, and red in 13. Slightly faster than the normal map respawn values, but with enough of a

Most folks join 32 player servers because they don't know any better. More is more so the server browser naturally elevates the popularity of those servers. The quick list should mitigate that by choosing servers that are most like your play style. L4D don't allow 8v8 servers in the match
