Re: [hlds] Left 4 Dead 2 Dedicated Server Available

2009-11-17 Thread Brandon R. Miller
Is L4D2 supposed to match players to servers in other regions? We put up
20 servers in Europe and 90% of the players have 150-200+ ping, I traced
roughly 10 of the IP's and all of them are from the US. The sv_region is
set to 3.

Well, as far as the 'sticking to stock maps and you won't have any issues'

So, it's been awhile since I've posted to the HLDS list, but
  I've

  point
 where
something needs to be done. I've roughly gone through the
   previous

looking for a similar situation and to my shock I was unable
 to
   find
  one.
Anyway.. I can play 2fort all day long, but on any other maps
 I
   get
  some
texture glitch where fire is flat squares and air movement
 from
   the
 air
blast or double jumping looks like 3 gray lines that fade
 out.
 Anyway..
   I'd
be shocked if nobody else has seen it. It seems like it's
 statistically
  a
very widespread issue. At least 10 people I've talked to all
 experience
   it
on a continual basis. This started after a major TF2 update
  about
   2
   months
ago, and nothing I've done has seemed to solve the problem. I
   tried
upgrading my drivers per someone's recommendation but as
  expected
  drivers
don't have anything to do with the issue so it didn't solve
 the

Just wondering if anyone knows how to fix it.

Here's an example of what I'm talking about.

Oh I know, I have had between 2 and 10 servers since tf2 beta (currently
 8) but I still don't think that having a bunch of servers makes it ok to
trick users or try to gain an advantage by faking information about your
servers. Since people do cheat the system, that forces all the honest
server operators to have to choose between also being dishonest or having
to work even harder to get their servers going. This is the same garbage
excuse that people spewed when they lied about their server tags - and
it stunk then and it stinks now. I'll keep hoping that some day there
is a blacklist, and then you can really experience empty servers.

I like having players on my server as much as the next admin, but unless
you're doing some sort of a money grab by selling admin or have found a
way to convert server popularity into something useful IRL I honestly
don't understand why there is such a drive to race to the bottom.

fake player app and not a bug in the server code.

Here is a possible patch for the new found exploit. It hasn't been fully
tested yet though since I am only speculating on how this exploit is being
 performed.

This plug-in will output a log event every time someone requests a file
 from
the server, whether it be a spray logo file or your server.cfg.

Under certain conditions It is possible to download files from the server.
 Server.cfg being a good one.

 Also the reverse is true.

[hlds] sv_gametypes does not lock mode in L4D2?

2009-11-17 Thread Ook
In server.cfg I have:

sv_gametypes coop

In console I get:

sv_gametypes
sv_gametypes = coop ( def.  )

So it looks like it is reading it from the cfg, but it doesn't lock the mode
like it does in L4D1. Is there something different we have to do to lock the
mode? IE how in L4D2 do we force it to coop and stay there?

On this note, does sv_steamgroup_exclusive work for anyone else? What
about sv_allow_lobby_connect_only? I had setup some test servers and it
didn't seem like the server was obeying these settings.
