Re: [hlds] COUNTER-STRIKE: SOURCE BETA

2010-05-11 Thread Keeper
Yeah, you have to use the OB versions

And rename TF2 in the gametypes.txt to Counter-Strike: Source

It's probably a good idea to remove the old CS:S section from there as well.

Man that was fast, the beta is already closed :(

Re: [hlds] COUNTER-STRIKE: SOURCE BETA

2010-05-11 Thread ics
I'm guessing that is due to sv_accelerate being set to 10, as most
servers Counter-Strike Source servers currently have it it being set to
sv_accelerate 5. Default is 10 in console if you look it up but in
Skill1.cfg which is located in cfg folder, it is being set to 5
automatically. I'm guessing Skill1.cfg is now removed and the 10 has
become default. So you go now faster than before.

Didden or removed. I ment the same thing. Cannot be adjusted so everyone
has now faster speed propably due to reason which i just mentioned.

There was a thing with this previously in counter-strike source ages ago
with some update to the game where the sv_accelerate was defaulted to 10
instead of 5 which is the one that the players have gotten used to.

2010-05-11 Thread Mike Vail
I don't know why you guys are saying this will give you a break from
cheating. There are still plenty of OB hacks out there and some of the beta
testers in our community are already reportedly seeing them in servers. True
there are plenty of CSS Hackers out there, but the vast majority of them can
be dealt with using server plugins.

All this update means to me is that we can now I bet we can expect to see
regular updates for CSS from Valve again that break plugins and cause
problems for server admins, just like we see happening with TF2 all the
time. Sorry I'm so skeptical, but CSS have been running great for us for a
very long time and I'm very leery about this whole thing. Granted this is a
beta release, but it's especially worrisome when our players are already
reporting major bugs, glitchy gameplay and seeing cheaters. I guess time
will tell, but I expected more than this for the re-release of CS: Source,
the best game of all time.

They wanted to get all their popular MP games working on Mac. And it would
have been idiotic to have several different multiplayer engine versions.
They would have also had to make sure that those versions work on all
platforms.

Easier to just have one for all their crossplatform MP games (LFD1/2
excluded). Then all generic engine updates/bugfixes to one game get added to
the rest of the games.

Re: [hlds] COUNTER-STRIKE: SOURCE BETA

2010-05-11 Thread 1nsane
The game code is separate.

Generic functions go into the engine.dll.
Game specific functions go into the server/client.dll.

It's still better the way it is now than having CS:S and DOD:S vulnerable to
a bunch of exploits that Valve does not bother patching on the EP1 engine.

Re: [hlds] COUNTER-STRIKE: SOURCE BETA

2010-05-11 Thread 1nsane
tf_wearable_item is part of the TF2 server.dll and related client checks are
part of the client.dll.

As such it is missing from the CS:S beta server/client.dll.

So adding a hat to TF2 won't add it to CS:S even though they are using the
same engine.

 The game code is separate.

Generic functions go into the engine.dll.
Game specific functions go into the server/client.dll.

It's still better the way it is now than having CS:S and DOD:S vulnerable to
a bunch of exploits that Valve does not bother patching on the EP1 engine.

God the amount of bitching in this is ridiculous. Valve is updating the
game, completely free of charge and people feel like they're doing something
wrong to them. SM/MM:S breaking isn't anything those teams are very fast and
usually have a patch within hours of any updates that break them.

It's a great idea.

It fixes a bunch of lang standing bugs/issues and adds some improvements.
It will also make more money for Valve as more people will buy the game

many others. I just hope that the update reel will continue after this
