I would REALLy like to use the HPR mumble server for the new years show. I
know Kwisher has been having some problems connecting, but he says he can
make it work. Is there any way that others in the community could try to
connect to the server and let us know if they can't connect. If we find
that there are others that can't connect for one reason or another we
should switch servers. If not than we should stick with the "official" HPR
mumble server (just so there is less confusion on new years eve)

Well I haven't started planning anything yet, but it's usually just the HPR
Mumble server starting on starting on 2019-12-31T10:00:00Z (December 31,

We will stop the recording and the stream as long as there is no one on at
2020-01-01T12:00:00Z (January 1, 2020 7:00 am est) if people are still on
and talking we will keep the stream and the recording going.

The show notes will be at http://honkeymagoo.ddns.net:9001/p/hpr-nye-2019

The only thing I need to figure out is the stream.

Re: [Hpr] Passing of 5150

2019-09-08 Thread honkey Magoo
So Fifty's frat brother Randy Hall had let me and the Linuxlugcast group on
MeWe know about his passing. He also joined us on the lugcast this past
Friday night. He said that he had been in contact with Fifty's cousins and
they were going to do a memorial service for him at the Larrison Mortuary
in Pratt . I don't have any more details than that. I have been waiting for
an obituary, but I haven't seen one yet.

On the next Linuxlugcast recording I would like to do a tribute to fifty.
If anyone wants to join, the Mumble server info is on
http://www.linuxlugcast.com/
If people can't join, but would like to have something read you can email
me at honkeymago...@gmail.com or if you want to contribute an audio file
you can email me and I'll get it added to the show. When it's done I'll
post it to both the Linuxlugcast, and to HPR.

On a more personal note, it wasn't until today that I realized that most of
my inbox was emails with FiftyOneFifty. Then I realized that I have been
doing the lugcast with him twice a month since February 2014.

I will miss him.

Re: [Hpr] Series Idea

2019-08-25 Thread honkey Magoo
I think if we had a recurring show where people reviewed an audio book,
there is no reason why we couldn't have a show where someone did a movie
review. Personally I don't think the movie being reviewed would have to be
"free", but that's just my opinion. I think a review of free movies, low
budget movies, big budget movies and all things in-between would be
interesting. Hell I don't care if someone just wanted to review Netflix
original movies only, I'd listen.

As for format, I guess that would be up to you. I would enjoy something
round table like the book club, but this is your show idea. You are just
checking with us to make sure that it would be something appropriate for
HPR, and I say hell yeah. Go for it.

Re: [Hpr] Suggestion: Phonetic host names

2018-03-24 Thread honkey Magoo
How about something on the podcast submit page where you can change the
phonetics of your name so that espeak pronounces it the way you like, or
maybe you can submit an audio file with you (or someone else) saying your
name to your liking.

Not trying to cause more work for people, just a thought.

[Hpr] Hpr2511 and hpr2512

2018-02-22 Thread honkey Magoo
To whom it may concern.
I tried uploading the HPR new years eve show, and got a 403 error after it
had completed. I tried again with hpr 2512 and got the same error. So I was
just wondering what I may have done wrong, or if I should just keep
uploading. I have 5 more episodes to upload

Sorry to post this here, but admin@ hackerpublicradio.org does not work,
and I didn't want to bother just Ken with this question if someone else
could answer it.

So by the looks of it John Neuseteter has shut down the mumble server. If
you would like to use mine for the community news it is located at:

Honkeymagoo.ddns.net
Port: 64738

I'm running it on a banana pi, and haven't had much time to test it yet,
but I think it should be fine.

[Hpr] New years eve show

2016-11-30 Thread honkey Magoo
So its that time again. Time for the HPR new years eve show.
I emailed John Neusteter about using his mumble server (the same one we use
for the the hpr community news)

ch1.teamspeak.cc port 64747

For show notes I emailed Thaj again and he agreed to let us use his
ehtarpad

http://thaj.dnsdojo.com:9001/p/hpr2016

For the stream last year I believe Ken set that up something through the
HPR site. If it is not possible to do again Kevin Wisher has volunteered
his stream.

Also last year there was some last minute changes to the start and end
time. I have no real preference when it comes to the time. I'll start a
recording at any time. Just let me know what people think asap because I
would like to get the word out through G+ and promos, and any other way
people can think of.

So same as last year I will do the editing and the posting. If anyone would
like to pitch in with taking show notes or an alternate recording I would
appreciate it greatly. I would appreciate any help. I will not be reserving
any slots I will try to get it out asap, but it seems like in the past some
of the anxiety behind the new years eve show comes from trying to get it
out asap or trying to keep someone on and the conversation going for the
full 24 hrs. I am not planning to be on for the full 24 hrs. I will be in
as much as I possibly can. The recording will be running the whole time if
there are people in the mumble channel talking or not. Truncate silence
will take care of the dead air, and I don't care if we only get 4 hrs or
conversation out of a 24 hr recording, the conversations had on the "HPR
New Years Eve Show" have made for some of the best podcast listening I have
ever heard. That is why I keep pushing for the new years eve show.

So please let me know what you think is a good starting and ending time.
Please let others know that we are doing it again this year, and please
join us on mumble new years eve and join in the conversation.

Thank you

Re: [Hpr] New Year's Show update

2015-12-29 Thread honkey Magoo
I want to thank everyone for there offering of support when it came to
putting together the new years eve show.
Thank you to Dave Lee for your offering of a Mumble server. In the end we
went with Jon Neusteter's mumble server because that is the one everyone
knows from past new years eve shows and for things like the community news.
I want to thank Bert Yerke for adding funds to help with expanding the
mumble server to more than 20, and of course thank you to Jon Neusteter for
the use of his mumble server.
I want to thank Kevin Wisher for the use of his stream. The hope is that it
will take some of the pressure off the mumble server, so that if people
just want to listen and not participate they can listen to the stream as
apposed to sitting in the mumble server.
Thank you to Thaj for the use of his etherpad. This will help with urls for
show notes, and hopefully some folks will put in there what was discussed
while they were in the channel. That would help fifty and I when it comes
to doing show notes.
Finally I would like to thank Ken Fallon for releasing the saved show
spots, and helping to promote this event, and hopefully I did not forget to
thank anyone or he might flame us in irc again. (just kidding Ken. We
appreciate all that you do with Hacker Public Radio. Without you as the
face and driving force I do not think there would still be a Hacker Public
Radio)
I know this was put together kind of last minute but I'm hoping it will be
successful. There will not be a host for this event. Fifty and I are going
to do our best to be in the channel as much as we can. We will have several
recordings going so please join, chat, and have a good time.

roon for everyone to come in say hi and talk about anything.

The mumble server is: ch1.teamspeak.cc
Port: 64747

For those who participate we will have a etharpad setup for you to share

If that's what your talking about I don't think we need it. We're not
announcing the time zones so anything with it is not necessary. Really all
we need is somewhere for people to put in links of things they were
discussing, and they could put in what was discussed that would help me and
fifty when it comes to making the show notes, but not necessary. Judging by
the response were getting were not expecting a big turn out, and were in no
rush to publish it.

Ken: if you could please no longer hold those spots for the new years show
i would appreciate it. As for show notes if k5tux would let us use his
etherpad that would be great, if not there are things like board.net we
could try, or if i have to i plan on having 1 if not 2 mumble sessions
going so if people put links in the mumble chat i can find them there. If
we do not have the spots held i can listen and make my own show notes. The
biggest concern is will people show up.

Kevin: if you want to provide a stream, great thank you. when it comes to
which server to use, i guess we need to talk to the owners of the servers.
We just thought jneusteter's server because that is the server we always use

Re: [Hpr] New Year Show ?

2015-12-01 Thread honkey Magoo
Hello all

On the subject of the new years show, I for one would certainly miss it if
it went away. In years past i have not been able to participate as much as
I would have liked to, but always tried to listen to the stream and looked
forward to downloading later.

So the question is what do we need to have a new years show?

1.permission from John Neuseteter to use his mumble server

2. A stream

3. Someone to record and possibly edit later.

4. The most important part participants.

I have John's email so i could contact him. I don't have enough bandwidth
to run a stream, but i do have enough hard drive space to record and I'm
willing to edit (as long as people don't mind it taking a while to get
published) this is a basic setup with no set topics, no announcing when a
new year is, just an open room for people to talk in. We may have hours of
silence, but thats fine because the hours of conversation are usually the
best.

So the question is, am I missing anything? Can we get a stream, and the
most important question, will anyone participate?
