Hi all,
one of my customers wants to replace his 9672 G5 by a z800. He is running
zOS 1.5. I will install the PSP ptfs for the z800 before. Are there any
other pitfalls regarding 31Bit to 64Bit or should everything work 1:1 with
the current configuration. Additionally to the zOS he runs a DB2 V7
this we have done. The customer is in a difficult economical situation and
the z9BC would have been three times as expensive as the used z800 which is
already ordered. You can believe me that we have discussed all variations
with the customer and there was no way to sell a z9, which also IBM had
Hi experts,
I have a customer who has currently a 9672-R36 with 2 SAPs. It is used as an
SAP database server. The machine runs normally at approx. 40 to 50% CPU and
a channel usage (ESS-F20 with 8 Escon) of approx. 40%. We want to replace
this machine by a used z800-002. In the LSPR tables the
I had forgotten one thing to mention. At peak times the machine runs at 80
to 90% CPU.

we are in discussion with the customer to replace his environment by a

at the moment he needs a quick and relatively cheap solution for his current

Hi listers,
I have a customer who backs up a data amount of about 500 GB with 2 Jobs
each day on a 2-drives-3590 with DSS. Because of data growth, he has now
problems with his batch window. His 3590 (A50/B11) is connected to his R36
by one escon channel. During the backup the channel is

Johnny,
there is port name called otelnet in file /etc/services which points to the
port of the uss telnet. Of course either the otelnetd daemon or the
configured inetd must be running. The port of otelnet must be different from
the normal telnet port for tso. You must also have defined an omvs
just as every unix, go into omvs and enter ps -ef ! grep xxx. Pay attention,
the sign behind the ps -ef is an exclamation mark.

Isn't it possible to group these datasets by an own hlq, which will not
change, so that you can react on this or those special hlq(s) in your ACS
routines? Then you could change your datasets as often as you want to do,
without having to change your ACS routines frequently.

For your new VTS/3584 configuration, be aware, that you need a third box
beside VTS and 3584 called 3953, which hosts the FICON/ESCON interfaces, the

For your disaster recovery, it is important, that the vts at Sungard is

Hi Mike,
I know the DITTO function, but it cannot be used in case of disaster
recovery, because you normally will not have an actual export tape of the
vts when there is a disaster situation. In my opinion vts-export can only be
used for planned actions e. g. merging logical volumes from one vts

You can, but you have to pay attention, that all the information in the
BEGINVTAM part is obeyed. Alternatively you can obey the whole ip profile.
There will be some errors (port already defined, device already defined and
so on) but you cannot forget informations.
Hope this helps

I haven't followed this discussion from the beginning, but for FTPing a
ADRDSSU file, you only have to terse this file with trsmain (lrecl 1024,
FB), binary transfer (on FTP-PUT use SITE RECFM=FB LRECL=1024 BLKSIZE=6144),
unpack and restore, READY !!! If you don't have TRSMAIN, download it from
