By defining that resource (as discrete, not generic) you allow users to

as my interface to TSO/ISPF and other freely available tools allow me to
do 99.99% of what I need on a day to day basis, all while forcing me to
learn and use the Unix toolset.
IMHO its made me a better systems programmer.
