Re: How to determine if a MGMT/DATA/STOR class is used

2012-07-12 Thread Vernooij, CP - SPLXM
Besides all the answers that check whether datasets with a xCLASS exist,
the classes might be used every now and then, but might not exist at the
moment(s) of checking. You could check SMF15 for usage in the past. You
could write a message from the ACS routines when the class is used, but
I seem to remember having troubles getting them into Syslog for later
detection.

I know I can use MXG + SAS to probably do this. But I was wondering
if anyone has an idea of how to determine if the
STORCLAS/DATACLAS/MGMTCLAS is actually being used.

I know when I translate the ACS code it will provide some clues, but I
want a way to provide a report to show the truth.

I probably would like the DSN HQL associated with the xCLAS classes,
but really just need to know if xCLAS was used at all. I might have it
coded in the ACS routine but not really used. i.e. The dataset is not
seen.

Thanks very much for any guidance.

Rob,

It turned out to be a bad vdefine. I had a bad address in the parm

it is not necessary to have a shadow area. Is that correct?

Re: ISPF Dynamic panel buffer question.(1st problem solved)

2012-07-12 Thread Rob Scott
Shadow areas are completely optional.

Typical uses include overlaying highlighting colours on top of the displayed
data - for example, if you want to write a FIND function for a needle in
the data displayed in your dynamic area and you wanted to reverse video all
matches.

Personally, I also avoid using hex values '0A' thru '0F' for my application's
ISPF attributes - IIRC by default 0A, 0B and maybe 0C are used by ISPF for
pull-down menus and suchlike and 0D and 0E are used by DBCS. (Warning -
previous sentence is based on comments in my code that are over 15years old and
maybe incorrect or out of date)

Re: IBM System Storage Channel Command Reference?

2012-07-12 Thread David Stokes
Well there is/was an ESS reference SC26-7298 which I downloaded quite some time
ago, it's available here
http://ebookbrowse.com/ess-s390-command-reference-exxfxx-sc26-7298-01-pdf-d170380434
for example (not sure how legal the site is). However there's stuff which is
no longer documented at least without NDAs and payments to IBM and many of the
commands tend to get converted to something else before reaching the controller
nowadays anyway. As far as the actual everyday CP commands are concerned
there's not very much difference I think to your manual. The Share document
zHPF Channel Programming The Bits and Bytes by David Bond which one can find
online might be an interesting introduction for those who want something newer.

problem building XML Toolkit v1.9 native MVS samples

2012-07-12 Thread Barkow, Eileen
I am trying to build the Native MVS XML Parser samples supplied with the

the Unix samples built fine but I get these errors in the SIXMEXP(IXM4C56X)

CICS TS 3.2 requires the v1.9 version of SIXMEXP for installation and

2012-07-12 Thread Don Poitras
Your make script is confused. SIXMEXP(IXM4C56X) is a DLL side deck, not
C (or C++) source. It should just be copied along with the .o files as
input to the binder.

If you're going to use the native files, you should use JCL to build
rather then gmake. See the IBM XML FAQ:

CICS TS 3.2 requires the v1.9 version of SIXMEXP for installation and

z/OS latch problem

2012-07-12 Thread Cittadino, Michael A
We are introducing latches into an application on z/OS 1.13 and have
encountered behavior that does not match our interpretation of the
documentation.

In the z/OS MVS Programming: Authorized Assembler Services Guide the
description of the latch purge service states that latch purge purges all
granted and pending requests. From this our understanding is that latch purge
acts as a general latch release and we expect that if we have a set of waiters
for a latch and purge the latch set that the waiters would have their latches
released and resume execution.

If we have a set of processes with a latch owner and a set of waiters and we
iterate over the set and issue ISGLREL for each process as it has ownership the
processes will resume execution.

However when we issue latch purge it completes rc 0 and the D GRS,LATCH display
shows no latch contention but the RBs for the latch waiters remain paused and
the processes do not resume execution. This occurs for both ISGLPRG and ISGLBPA.

At this point we are not sure if the latch purge behavior is a defect or if the
actual behavior is different from our interpretation of the documentation.

CBT Tape Version 484 has been cut

2012-07-12 Thread Sam Golob

Hi Folks,

Happy to announce that CBT Tape Version 484 has been cut, and all
the stuff from the Updates page of www.cbttape.org was moved to the CBT
page. I think I've updated the www.cbttape.org website with all the 484
stuff as opposed to the 483 stuff. I'm always open to people pointing
out if I forgot to do something. Appreciate your constructive
suggestions and so forth.

One thing that probably not too many people know about. There is a
3390-2 pack which was backed up by both FDR and DFDSS (and tersed) which
is available to be downloaded at the www.cbttape.org site. Besides
containing all the CBT Tape files for Version 484, the IPL text of that
pack contains ZZSA from Jan Jaeger, which you can IPL and use to look at
or fix, anything on your system without IPL-ing MVS. ZZSA is also on
the CBT Tape, in two files, File 437 and File 538.

We make updates to the CBT Tape versions maybe 2 or 3 times a year
nowadays. The reason we do so few of them, is that the newest files are
on the Updates page of the website, which you should always check,
before you look at the CBT page of the website. Since the Updates page
has the newest stuff and it is easily accessible, we don't have to be
always rolling the newest stuff into a new CBT Tape version very often,
as Arnie used to do, when the only way you could get any of the newest
stuff was on a tape. When Arnie had to put all of it on the tape, he
was extremely dedicated in constantly making new versions, perhaps
averaging 15 versions a year. Now we can do two or three new versions,
and accomplish the same thing. Hooray for technology.

All the best of everything to all of you. Use everything in good
health and happiness.

Sincerely, Sam

there's not very much difference I think to your manual. The Share document

The hack, which of course was conducted anonymously, was meant to be a warning,

We hope that the parties responsible for managing the security of this

belonging to Yahoo! Inc. that have caused far greater damage than our
disclosure. Please do not take them lightly.

Now - no flaming. Some on our list are not aware of these types of issues.

The Yahoo Sign-in seal is just an image (or text) that is stored

displays your image if it can find it. Then you look at it to make
sure it is really your sign-in seal. Its purpose is to give you

what site the page is from.

Yahoo promotes it as a way to protect your password. All it

From the way you worded this I am assuming that you were in the process of

If you were not in the process of defining both CDSs, do you have automation in
