We also just recently started getting a Wait state at IPL on one of test lpar
sandboxes and nothing had changed on our system. It wasn't consistently
failing either. I opened up a case with IBM and was told to put in ESQA in

Subject: Wait Code on IPL

We are getting a wait code 040 with abend code and Reason Code .
We did see IEA303W message with Abend code and Reason Code but
only with the first IPL attempt. We have not seen it with subsequent IPLs.
We as a group have spent a few days researching the wait, abend and reason
codes and have found nothing that would indicate the

problem. There has been no resent changes to parmlib, or i/o configurations.
The module abending is IEAVNP26, it's located in SYS1.NUCLEUS. The last
message on the console is "GRS initialization completed successfully". The
last successful IPL was 12/13/2020.

We do have a question; would 2700 uninitialized volumes prevent an IPL and
cause a hang/abend after GRS Activates?

TIA

CPCS software is old and no changes have been made to it. Has anyone else
encountered this or might have some idea on why this might be occurring. I
checked the migration manual for z/OS 2.3 but I do not see anything apparent.

Indeed! If I can, I would test each or some of these comparision statements and
set up a true/false flag (my own [new] variable) to be used on the final IF or
WHEN statement. Just for easy reading and debugging.

It is always true. I have tested it. Only way to skip that DO part is to have
SUBSYS <> 'A'.

So, you still have all your marbles. ;-)

Is this terminal log? Or TRACE output? Can you post (some of) the Rexx code?

Are you quoting all your strings? Is SIGNAL ON NOVALUE in effect (recommended).

Do I see extreme abbreviations? It's easier for an outsider to read

REXX question

2018-10-10 Thread Lopez, Sharon
We have a CHANGEMAN REXX exec that issues this:

+CMNNEWCO F PRODAORB,CEMT SET PROG(DPLDB2IR) PH

but now it is appending the userid to the end:

+CMNNEWCO F PRODAORB,CEMT SET PROG(DPLDB2IR) PH CMNBATCH

Has anyone seen anything like this before? The REXX hasn't changed.

Thank you.

HMC user authentication via LDAP server

2016-11-08 Thread Lopez, Sharon
We are trying to do HMC (2.12.0) user authentication via LDAP server. I have
necessary information for the HMC "Edit Enterprise Directory (LDAP) Server"
panel but need to enter a search filter. It looks like I need to put the '{0}'
somewhere in the search pattern. My server people say I need to get this from
the app owner.

When trying to logon with my LDAP id, I get msg - Error contacting LDAP server
for authentication. I am able to ping the server from the HMC.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

We migrated 4 production lpars from z/OS 1.13 to z/OS 2.1 and didn't notice a

Thanks, I use that command rather for my IRREVXxx and UJI exits to see if the
loadlib+exits are actually loaded at IPL.

What about TSO ISRDDN? You can use it to locate the modules.

Sharon, do you have any source code for those exits? Depending on what they're
doing, you may or may not see what they were doing upon being called.

You can always remove these exits to see who is crying... (it is of course a
dangerous action...)

Just be careful, because some products do have their own IEFU* exits which are
installed as part of those products.

Probably a silly idea, but is it possible that your system's /var/cron is a
mount point and a different zFS data sets is mounted upon it? Easiest way that
I know of to check this is from a UNIX shell and issue the command:

df -v /var
df -v /var/cron

As an example (my /var/log is on a different zFS than /var)

$
df -v /var

UNIX ZFS clone question

2016-06-21 Thread Lopez, Sharon
I have a weird scenario and wondering if anyone else has seen this. I'm
preparing to go to z/OS 2.1. I'm cloning my current var zfs using DFDSS COPY
DATASET (like I've always done for many, many years). Anyway, it looks like
the files under CRON aren't being copied. This is my z/OS 1.13 cron:

EUID=0   /SYSTEM/var/cron/
  Type Filename
_ Dir .
_ Dir ..
_ File at.allow
_ File at.allow.av022505.backup
_ File cron.allow
_ File cron.allow.av022505.backup
_ File queuedefs

And after the DFDSS COPY

EUID=0   /ZOSR21/varsha/cron/
   Type Filename
 _ Dir .
 _ Dir ..

All other directories and files look like they were copied, except CRON. Has
anyone else seen this or could possibly test this scenario on their system?

Thank you.

Sorry, I didn't read your question carefully. You're problem sounds related to
either the tape management system or the tape environment itself. Is it
virtual? Physical? IBM, Oracle,
EMC? Do you ever mod onto an existing data set or it is "new" each time?
Many more
details are needed.

Re: SMP/E error in my z/OS 2.1 Serverpac OS212016.

2016-01-12 Thread Lopez, Sharon
This is the answer from IBM; just in case anyone else might be experiencing
this:

Due to recently added IFREQs, the ServerPac RESTORE job is not getting
generated correctly, causing the errors. ServerPac development is
currently in the process of fixing the RESTORE job generation error. As
a workaround, you can RESTART the job from step UCLIN, removing all
updates which were already done the previous run and also removing all
occurences of statement DEL SYSMOD(HQX7790) CIFREQ( (UK96644,UK96643)).

When I google HQX7790 I find this same error in a note dated August 11, 2015
with subject SDSF z/os 2.1 - z/OS upgrade

  SET BDY(MVST100) .
GIM20501ISET PROCESSING IS COMPLETE. THE HIGHEST RETURN CODE WAS 00.

ENDUCL .

This is the first run of the restore job. And, yes, the job as generated has a
redundant DEL which will fail if the first one works.

Now, I get to manually muck with this UCLIN and try to restart the restore job
at this step.
Since this was after 501.16 MINUTES EXECUTION TIME, I'm not real interested in
fixing the skeleton, regenning the job and starting from the top.

RSU or maintenance level on a system

2015-09-16 Thread Lopez, Sharon
I already posted this question to IBM but wanted to find out if others are
getting this request from their auditors.

Our auditors want to be able to display the RSU or maintenance level of our
z/OS system. To my knowledge, there is no way to do that (IBM has also
agreed). Does anyone know if this is possible and are you getting the same
request from your auditors.? Keep in mind that our auditors do know z/OS or
mainframe. It sounds like they are used to seeing displays on other platforms
with this information with release and fix level.

Thank you in advance.

Host on Demand and z/OS 1.13

2014-04-15 Thread Lopez, Sharon
We have just migrated our test lpar to z/OS 1.13 and we are having a problem
with HOD. We have a ticket opened with HOD support but it will probably be
transferred to z/OS HTTP. We set up a trace and it shows a handshake error and
this error:
Thd-7 ERROR default_setsocketoptions(): setsockopt (TCP-NODELAY) failed for
socket 11: 121 - EDC5121I Invalid argument.

Thd-7 ERROR gsk_secure_socket_init(): Default callback failed to restore socket
options EDC5121I Invalid argument.

Has anyone else experienced this problem with HOD? We are scheduled to go to

There were fixes in the past for PDSE and sharing.

Is this the first PDSE you are sharing? Is this the first time for SYSVIEW?
