Hi9 All:
Some of you know I only have one eye. I just had surgery on that one, what they
call DSAEK. That's a fancy way of saying a partial cornea transplant. So things
are very blurry and will be for a couple months at least. But I do want to
report the following;
1390,
I remembered I had the two chokes that I built years ago at the suggestion of
John Bryant. I re-installed one at the antenna input and my noise dropped by
80% on the R8. The Eastern Beverage is now working pretty well. At Noon today,
I am getting KBOI & KSL fairly well. There is still some
Les,
Thanks for following up with Southern Avionics. These guys were my first
suspect late last night when I first heard this mystery beacon on 1650 but
we can rule them out now. Now that more people are aware of it, it'll be
interesting if it appears again tonight. I can't provide any good
I would've very interested if anyone in the Pacific Northwest can hear it.
Reports so far have mainly been from the Midwest and east coasts

I figured the easiest way to eliminate Southern Avionics Co. from the list of
“suspects” would be to simply call them. Spoke with Derick Moore in their

Hi everyone,
Today I went over to Home Depot and bought some regular screening, like for a
screen door and wrapped the modem in that. It is not grounded to anything other
than the cable connection coming in so far, but 80% or more of the noise is
gone. I will check on it tomorrow during the
Hi everyone,
This afternoon I went to Home Depot and bought two pieces of PVC pipe
along with two 5 foot copper pipes for the termination ground, and
hopefully tomorrow or over the weekend, I will get up my 3rd EWE antenna
up. I first thought of running it over to the tree at 15 degrees True
Gievn how well your other EWE's work (aided by superb grounding) I think
this is your best bet for TA's. 73 KAZ

Hi everyone
KAZ,
Thanks! I think the NE EWE will work out well too. The only problem I
see, is the NE downlead for the new EWE runs quite close to the
Horizontal piece on the SW EWE. Like a couple or three feet apart, it
looks like. I hope there is no interreaction with the two being so
close? But the

Walt,
Thanks too. I think this should solve my problem with the lack of a lobe
to NE. At least I hope so. I have a few other ideas, if this EWE works.
I may try to raise the NE end of it higher in the tree and see what that
does to the pattern. I have had some luck with EWEs with the legs

Chris,
I would expert no problem ether as it is only the horizontal wire and
not anythjing larger, plus the SE element of the NW EWE is right near
the SW element element of the SW EWE, within a couple of feet on each
side of the tree trunk.

Things have improved since my earlier post, with 1134 having pretty
decent audio at times, and both Sweden (1179) and France (1377) reaching
audio at times.
A fair number of decent level carriers too, though rather unusually 1215
isn't among them..

It's now 0220 and am listening to quite good audio from 1215 Virgin
Radio. Also had listenable audio on 1206 France and 1134. 1134 was in
English at 0210, but it seems to me Croatia does have brief newscasts in
foreign languages during their night. Weaker audio also heard on 1575,

presumed DLF. This all at 04:35 UTC. Not as good as a

Somehow I wonder if this is true. flat out refusing to lower IBOC
power when they are itnerfering with a station is just stupid, but then
again WBZ has a huge signal.. and someones problem complaining about a
station outside their coverage area.
Who asked WBZ to lower their IBOC power?
Paul,
I heard this second hand from an engineer I know, that I do not want to
mention their name. I think it is in regard to the QRM to the upstate NY
station on 1040. But I have not heard it directly. So that is why I
stated it as I did. There might be some valid points that I know nothing

I think when claiming something like WBZ refused.. you need to have more
proof then second hand information.

Chuck,
Sorry I did not explain better. What I should have said, the center
conductor pulled away from the barrel connecting the two pices of RG6
together. I don't think the center conductor was long enough anyway. But
it is fixed now. Works great.
