Sisters invite your husbands, sons, brothers to assist, insh'Allah. ma salaam Announcement: Muslim Men Against Domestic Violence an initiative of the Baitul Salaam Network, Inc. located in metro Atlanta is looking for leaders to organize men around the issue of domestic violence in the Islamic ummah. The ideal candidates will be able to work with women (respect their input and intellect), be willing to learn about the issue of domestic violence (take workshops/classes) and be very balanced in their personal lives with women and children. The duties of the organizers (local, regional and national) will be to encourage men to learn more and to take the lead in advocating against violence against women and children. Must be willing to organize at least two training sessions per year that will focus on leaders in the communities where they live (one for Imams/Amirs and male leaders) and one for women who are leaders of organizations, committee chairs, etc. The leaders of this initiative will work very closely with the leadership and volunteers of the Baitul Salaam Network, Inc. to establish the necessary resources for men in our community to get the education and training to be of service to their families and the whole community, insh'Allah. Must be willing to help fund raise to help expand the overall efforts of the organization. This will benefit all. We strongly encourage young men ages 25-40 to consider stepping up and taking on this role, insh'Allah. You do not have to be an Imam/Amir. You do not necessarily need to be a scholar. We need men with pure intentions, basic knowledge of the Quran and Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), true love for humanity and organizational skills to take on this endeavor, insh'Allah. Must have four to six hours per month available to volunteer for one year. After one year a stipend maybe available for these positions through fund raising. As Salaamu Alaikum, We want to thank all of you who give to us as you can afford. Your loyalty is appreciated and very reassuring as we continue to do this challenging work of caring for others. We meet in metro Atlanta every first Sunday at 1 pm (new time) throughout the year. On occasion we will meet on the second Sunday usually after the annual conventions of the major Islamic organizations (ICNA, ISNA, WD Mohammed) and at the first of the year due to people traveling, insh'Allah. We meet today at Masjid Al Mu minun, 1127 Hank Aaron Dr. SW at 1 pm, insh'Allah. We are approaching bill time (25th of month through 1st) for the shelter project. We pay our bills in the following order: 1. Lease (with option to buy).$1,000 (must pay by 5th) 2. Utility Bills (lights, water and phone)$500-600 (approximate usually pay by the 10th) *3. Halal Meat and condiments$200 (paid through donation) 4. Stipends (four at this time)..$1,440 Administrator/House Manager 600 PT Security 300 PT Case Manager 300 PT Grant Writer 240 (plus small percentage of grant money receive through this persons efforts) 5.Maintenance.$ 200 approximate (repairs, yard cleaning, gutter cleaning, etc) 6.Sadaaqah.$ 320 minimum (depends on ages of children) (MARTA Cards, pocket money and minor medical expenses) 7. Savings..$ 400 minimum for emergencies and down payment to buy house in two years __ _ Minimum Monthly Fund Raising needed $4,160.00 *Already paid All of our residents leave the shelter daily (Mon.-Fri.) to go look for work and do other things people do to become more self-sufficient. This is why we need to collect money for MARTA Cards and give them pocket money until they find work or secure an income. This budget represents only the amount to keep the doors open at this time. We need to raise $250,000 per year so we can expand our bed capacity, provide more in-house services and pay staff market value salaries. You can give in many ways to help us keep the shelter open: 1. We ask that individuals give $10 per month ($2.50 per week) and Masjid/Islamic Centers, organizations, email listserv and businesses for a donation of $100 per month or $25.00 per week from your group, insh'Allah. 2. As Salaamu Alaikum, Urgent Alert! There is an elderly Muslim woman who appears to have a mental health problem wondering the streets of Atlanta. She says she is from Atlanta and has been living in California for many years. She knows some people here however when people try to assist her she does not cooperate. She appears to be harmless however very lost and very confused. She is in danger of being hurt on the street if we can not intervene quickly. Right now everyone's hands are tied due to new laws about people who are in this situation however if they can say no can not be forced to accept treatment. If you are missing an elderly female relative or you have an elderly female relative in a Nursing Home or other type of residential facility please check to see if they are in that facility at this time. Unfortunately we have had this happen before and when we put out an alert the relatives were able to come here to Atlanta and assist their relative. May Allah continue to keep her safe. To date we have served approximately 464 women and children through the shelter program. Our organization has two ways that we assist those in need. The most urgent and severe cases come to the shelter if we have room, insh'Allah. Others who are not so severe or can stay in their homes we assist through our Outreach Program. We answer approximately 9,000 telephone calls per year and assist as many as we can with referrals for legal assistance, sadaaqah, medical, job/career), etc. We are asking everyone who receives this post to seriously consider giving a small amount per month, insh'Allah. Islam Through Quotations
This book is written for Muslims living outside of Islamic countries
and do not know the Arabic language so they may understand, with the least
effort, the basic principles and spirit of their religion. With so many
misrepresentations about Islam; this book should also be useful to
non-Muslims to understand Islam, and Muslims, better.
The word “Islam” means peace, submission to God’s will and obedience to
His laws. It is based mainly on the Quran revealed by God to His Messenger
and Prophet Mohamed and the Prophet’s application of the rules thus
revealed. Islam is the continuation of all former religious principles
decreed by God through His revelations to all prophets. The prophets
include Moses, Jesus Christ (as a prophet but not as a divine) and many of
the prophets and leaders of the Old Testament. Unlike other religions,
there is no titular head, clergy, nor priesthood in all of Islam.
Also, unlike the way other religions are understood and practiced,
Islam is a “way of life” that encompasses all aspects of community
activities, not only supplication to God. Indeed, it is said (1:874)* that
“the true saint in Islam goes in and out amongst people and sleeps with
them, buys and sells in the market, marries and takes part in social
intercourse, and never forgets God for a single moment”.
Islam is presented in this book through quotations to eliminate the
effect of the writer’s personal opinion. Quotations are taken mainly from
the Quran and the Prophet’s “Hadith” (quotations). Added to them are
quotations from the “Rightly Guided Caliphs.” The reason for choosing the
quotations from these caliphs is that they were constant companions of the
Prophet and, therefore, understood Islam “first hand.” The quotations
cited present, therefore, a view of Islam free from accretions of
tradition; in its purest form.

Author's Bio:
Kamal-Eldin Hassan
Dr. Hassan was born in 1921 in Cairo, Egypt to Hassan Youssef, a Civil
Engineer responsible for building many of the country’s barrages and dams,
and his wife Amina Amin.
Following in his father’s footsteps, he studied Mechanical Engineering,
receiving his PhD in 1955 from the Illinois Institute of Technology.
He returned to Egypt, and joined the Faculty of Engineering at Cairo
University where he became the Chair Professor of Thermal Power Stations.
During his career, he enjoyed interacting with his students, mentoring and
guiding them through their Masters and Doctorate programs. He also
authored many scientific papers and books. In recognition of his
contributions, he received the Egyptian State Award for Science in
1975.
In 2003, he presented much of his technical library (over 1400 books)
to the newly established Library of Alexandria, Egypt.
He frequently returned to the United States as a Visiting Professor at
Tulane University, and The Georgia Institute of Technology. He also spent
a year at New Mexico State University as a Senior Foreign Scientist with
the National Science Foundation.
Believing that Islam’s message is of peace and co-existence; he helped
found the Islamic Society of Atlanta in 1973, and was elected its first
president. He wanted to bridge the gap between Muslims and non-Muslims,
especially in non-Muslim countries.
Dr. Hassan understood Islam as a way of life that focuses on the
freedom of choice, not as dogmas and rituals. This is the message he
wanted to convey to his American born and raised grandchildren. So for
over twenty years, he taught them that in his deeds, and he dedicated this
book to them and to people like
them.

The name of the game is longevity. As authors/publishers we are facing hard
times and as you probably know by now, Culture Plus Books is no longer in
business.
We cannot afford to lose another distributor, but at the same token, we
cannot allow them to exploit our businesses. By now, you may have received
a call from AB Book Distributors requesting that you increase their share
from 60% to nearly 80%. Let's do the math-if your price point is $15.00, you
will receive $6.00 per unit. NOW , they want to give us $4.00 (20%) per
copy in cash if you sell a certain quantity to them upfront. However, we
are the authors/publishers putting our hearts and souls into these titles
and WE take the risk with the book manufacturer. Distributors are only
responsible for getting the title from their warehouse to the stores/street
vendors. Remember, you still have to promote the book (printing bookmarks,
posters, flyers, etc.) and pay for the printing as well as storing your
title(s). You may even have the responsibility of paying authors out of that
money.
This request is an INSULT!!! It's not as if AB is forwarding the discount
to the stores or the street vendors. They have actually raised their
percentage requiring the bookstores/vendors pay a 5% increase. This means
AB gets to pocket more of YOUR money if we take the $4.00 offer. However,
if we maintain the discount of 60% we'll remain in the positive instead of
the negative.

for this exhibit. It is growing and will be on tour the summer of 2006,
insh'Allah. We plan to announce the tour datesat the 6th Annual
International Women's History/3rd Annual Muslim Women's Leadership Summit here
in
Atlanta, insh'Allah.
Everyone who has submitted information that is now five years
old we would like an updated photograph and biography. Remember to keep it
to one page and the photo can be a snapshot size or 5"X7" photo (black and white
or color).
Please sisters this exhibit highlights the accomplishments of
Muslim women and girls from around the globe. It is a collection of
newspaper and magazine articles and some artifacts. We need more
submissions so please get your information to us by February 15, 2006,
insh'Allah. We plan to mount all information received,
insh'Allah.
Who should submit:
Any sister who has a leadership position in her community this
includes those make sure anniversaries are remembered, children are recognized
for their accomplishments, etc. Educators, businesswomen (all types of

When we buy books written by Muslims or about Muslims at these locations they get paid, plus they get a chance to be on the New York Times Bestsellers List (an honor). Just think what it will be like when an Islamic based book is on this coveted list? We can do this! We have the numbers! The following deadlines apply:
1. The Reminder deadline is every Sunday by 10 pm. All adsand announcements must be in by the deadline.All payment must be sent to: Spencer-Majeed, Ltd., PO Box 1093, Conley, GA 30288 (we will give you one week to submit).
2. The Muslim Information Station deadlines are:
A. All announcements andarticles by the20th of the preceeding month and all ads by the 25th of the preceeding month. All money must be mailed within seven days of placement. We have three ad rates at this time. You can run a business card ad for $25 (up to seven lines extra space minimum artwork), Classified ad $2.00 per line (help wanted, employment wanted, renting a house, selling a house, etc) and one page inserts (you supply the inserts for us to put into the newsletters) you pay $50 per month for this service.
Having a way to effectively communicate will helpall in the community be more aware of what is going on and how we can lend a hand to worthwhile projects, etc.
The next Reminder (Internet only) will be published by Tuesday, November 15, insh'Allah. TheMuslim Information Station is scheduled for distribution on December 1, 2005, insh'Allah.

We would like to add it to our records. ma salaam Domestic Violence: Proposed Muslim Community Response Statement *** In the Name of God, Most Gracious, Most Merciful Domestic violence is crime that tears at the fabric of society through the family. In America, it is estimated that domestic violence incidents occur in approximately 30% of homes. Abuse can take many forms physical, emotional, and verbal and can occur in homes regardless of education, socio-economic status, or degree of religiosity. The Muslim community of North America recognizes that abuse happens within its community and that it has been an issue neglected in our past. Violence in the home is a form of oppression and is unacceptable under Islamic principles. Our denial and deference to cultural practice over faith hinders our ability to provide proper care and support to the abused and the family. Islam is a religion where peace, dignity, and justice are fundamental values that guide the relationships we have with family, friends, and neighbors. Domestic violence is an affront to those values and to Islam. Therefore, it is incumbent upon the Muslim community to come together and address the issue of family abuse in the community. O ye who believe! stand out firmly for justice, as witnesses to Allah, even as against yourselves, or your parents, or your kin, and whether it be (against) rich or poor: for Allah can best protect both. Follow not the lusts (of your hearts), lest ye swerve, and if ye distort (justice) or decline to do justice, verily Allah is well- acquainted with all that ye do. (Sura Nisa : 135) We recognize the following in an effort to address the issue: That domestic violence in the community is largely unrecognized, minimized, or neglected. That abuser accountability is paramount in identifying long-term solutions. Victim blaming is a form of re-victimization. Muslim men are a part of the solution and their participation in addressing abuse is needed. That our mosques need to be established as safe places for all, especially the abused and disenfranchised. Although there are many forms of abuse, most incidents are male to female. Silence is acceptance. Counseling may be needed and it is acceptable Islamically to maintain mental as well spiritual health. We as Muslims have a role in the healing process. We affirm the following as conscious Muslims: Our children and our families are an Amana or trust. Our mosques play a crucial role in addressing domestic violence. Strong, healthy families that reflect Islamic values are to be a priority of the community. Islamic values hold key elements in addressing the issue. We recommend the following in the light of Islamic principles of justice and peace: Education Awareness programs initiated at local, regional, and national level to reach Muslim communities on the issue need to be established in an effort of prevention. Training for both men and women in the mosque, in addition to the community leadership to acknowledge and combat the issue of domestic violence. Incorporate survivor feedback in our efforts to address the problem. Research and study of the problem from a Quranic world view in addition to established social science methods in order to generate effective tools to address domestic violence. Collaborations with other faith based and secular agencies be sought to fill in any needs gaps in the community addressing the issue and to bring solutions to the table based on Islamic values. Each community should cultivate or identify persons who have domestic violence training, Islamic training, conflict resolution skills, and counseling skills. Each community should hold regular trainings on these topics and incorporate these skills into weekend school curriculums and halaqas. Resolution Domestic Violence Resolution WHEREAS, Islam affirms the family and the right for persons to live under the Islamic values of dignity, justice and tranquility, and WHEREAS, domestic violence is recognized as having a devastating effect upon the family and community in America including Muslim homes. WHEREAS, domestic violence has largely been held in denial, ignored and minimized in the Muslim community and THEREFORE, IT IS RESOLVED, that Muslim community of North America will raise awareness and education on the issue of domestic violence in their mosques as both a means of prevention and to further the development of effective interventions,
