My opinion:
Minimal time to invest but (better) optical look for the user.
And we definitely need some "eye candy" for the next releases...

But let the design-team decide! ;-)

It's not a bug, it's an issue... ;-)

The "Oracle" OOo-logo looked better at that position because it had a
corresponding part on the right side (see attachment).
After the new AOO-logo was created it was simply placed at the same position...

Maybe it could be centered, but I don't know how that looks on greater
resolution like Retina-displays.

(I have set the issue to UNCONFIRMED now, don't know why it was CONFIRMED when
I opened it)

I cannot say if the logo is misplaced or not, because I don't know the
descriptions with that the Start Center was introduced.

1. What was the intention for the size of the Start Center?
I don't know, which space is needed for the labels in other languages.

2. I'm not a graphic artist. But for me it seemes that the first »O« from
OpenOffice should be aligned with the icons below. So the logo is outside from
this line but it has an equal top and left distance.
Because of the design of the icons (gulls and plus in opposition to the strict
open icon) there is no stringent visual line.

Only my opinions.

I have reproduced some of the weird rendering of text described by Bastendorf
using the attached suspect document.

OpenOffice version: 4.1.2
OO412m3(Build:9782) - Rev. 1709696
2015-10-21 09:53:29 (Mi, 21 Okt 2015)

Operating system: Windows 10 Home
Version 1607
64-bit system

The steps taken:

1. Downloaded new install of Open Office
2. Downloaded the supplied attached document
3. Opened document and deleted red text
4. Scrolled back to the beginning of the document without noticing anything
strange
5. Selected and deleted randomly two pieces of the text (about one line each)
on the first page
6. Deleted a third piece of text near the bottom of the first page
7. Observed shifting of the text in the middle of the line down (the first time
I did this) and up (on the second attempt).

I took screenshots of the misalignment on both occasions and attached them to
this issue (misalignment_1.png and misalignment_2.png). I added a red arrow to
the screenshots to point to the line in question.

I also noticed another thing: whenever I open the suspect document and press
down the right mouse key on any text on the first page to start selecting text,
the text on the whole page kind of shakes and appears to make a small movement
to right. Then, when I release the key, scroll forward on to some other page
and again press down the right mouse key, the text that is visible on the
screen seems to make a small movement to left.

I was able to reproduce this issue based on the information provdided in the
comment by farmerj2...@my.fit.edu.

Steps to Reproduce
1. Create a new writer document
2. Enter the following words with a space between each word.
One Two Three Four

3. Select the first word 'One' by double-clicking on the word with your moust
or touchpad and the hold down CTRL
4. While still holding down CTRL double-click the other three words in sequence
(i.e. one after the other)
5. Without deselecting the already selected 4 words hit CTRL-C and CTRL-V or
equivalent for your platform.
--> As a result the following will be pasted over the original.
OneTwoThreeFour OneTwoThreeFour OneTwoThreeFour OneTwoThreeFourOneTwoThreeFour

Basically for each selection that you originally made (in this case four) you
will get 4 Versions of what you selected where the last word is doubled.
This can happen starting with at least two word selections as described above.

Here are some examples.
One Two --> OneTwo OneTwoOneTwo
One Two Three --> OneTwoThree OneTwoThree OneTwoThreeOneTwoThree
One Two Three Four --> OneTwoThreeFour OneTwoThreeFour OneTwoThreeFour
OneTwoThreeFourOneTwoThreeFour

The password protection against editing does not employ encryption.

Only the password protection against opening employs encryption (so the
document is not readable without the password).

The protection against editing alone is a weak protection and apparently
Inkscape overcame it without difficulty.

There is a similar situation when OpenOffice saves documents as other than PDF.
If a document is readable, it is possible to overcome any password protections
on editing by manipulation of the document file. That protection is mainly
against accidental modifications, not malicious alterations.

Open Office 4.1.2 (office) on Windows 10 64x

Unknowns:
What text file the original post used for Gujarati, therefore I don't know if
my text file (tested 2 different font files for the same language) matches that
of the original bug. The text files I used are attached.

What the language settings were so I tried two combinations of:
English, Gujarati
English, no Gujarati
To find languages, Tools->Language->('all text' was used of options
available)->More

In the office version of the original post, there was an extension 'gxliterate'
that has unknown compatibility with office 4 and above as of now. I didn't need
to download this extension (although attempted before downloading text files
and font wasn't an option) however research leads me to believe that the
extension generates a button on the tool bar labeled 'gx' which wasn't
appearing on my version. I'm not sure if this was used on the original post but
it seemed to be the way to have the font in previous versions appear/translate
while typing between languages. File is available for download, search Gujarati
on the available extensions online.

Reproduction:
I opened and reloaded the open office writer document 20-25 times total (about
10 each combination) and never had missing text. For every test, the same exact
text/files were used and I had 'The dog is black' followed by layers of the
same phrase; both written with the Gujarati font previously selected and
converting English characters to Gujarati (using both text files which I named
differently to be able to install).

Further investigation:
Test with different colors on the characters or font sizes

Summary: AOO crashing when opening a presentation
   Product: Impress
   Version: 4.1.3
  Hardware: Mac
OS: Mac OS X 10.12

I am using the presentation tool in OpenOffice, however, since the installation
of OSX Sierra, i have been unable to open the App. the writing and spreadsheet
apps work fine.

I have googled it and it appears that there maybe an issue with the the version
of Java i am using (1.8).

When i open the preferences it says i can add 1.6 but I'm not sure how to do
that or even if this is my issue.

Can someone help please?

OS X Crash Log

After several months I tried to startup OpenOffice but it crashed before
displaying any windows. I'm running Mac OS 10.11.6 (El Capitan) and the last
time I ran OpenOffice was probably before I upgraded. I tried installing OO
version 4.1.3 but this produced the same result.

The crash log says:

Thread 0 Crashed:: Dispatch queue: com.apple.main-thread

The complete crash log is attached. Can anyone suggest how I can avoid this?

Thanks
