The best way to remove those temp files is to go to the control panel,
Internet opetions, general tab and clear history. Any files it remeoves
following this procedure is safe. I don't recommend deleting files directly
from the temp folder under your profile unless you know exactly what you are
doing.

Lisa,

I don't advise deleting the Windows temp files, but they are mainly located
in the, c:\windows\system32 folder. Plus there may be others scattered
around in various applications. But again, unless you know what you are
deleting, I don't advise it.
The Internet temp files are located in, c:\documents and settings\(your
profile name)\local settings\temporary Internet files. This is where your
temp files and cookies are stored. Most of these files provide faster
loading of visited web pages. I don't see that it affects the performance
of your PC by removing them.

Lisa,
Sorry it has taken me a couple of days to get back to you.
The, %temp% command will delete the temp files in the root directory. It
doesn't remove the Windows temp files or the Internet temp files.
As for the cookies, that is up to you whether you want to delete them or
not. Deleting them won't do anything to enhance the performance of your PC.

I think you'll find that in Gmail's case you need to configure that from
 Gmail.

 1. Login to Gmail.

 2. Go to Settings.

 3. Go to Fowarding and Pop.

 4. For the select box When messages are accessed with POP, select
Delete Google Mail's Copy instead of Keep Google Mail's Copy in the
Inbox or Archive Google Mail's Copy. Note that this select box is not
labelled correctly, so you may only be able to tell which one it is from
 the select options.

By the way, I personally would recommend archiving your email with
Google, rather than just deleting it. I would have lost a lot of my mail
if I'd relied on my local copy alone.

2007-04-15 Thread Benjamin Hawkes-Lewis

Don't worry, Steve, you don't sound silly.

But I've checked and I can indeed change my Gmail settings from the
basic HTML view in Internet Explorer 6 too. Now my Gmail account is
British, and the servers that host it may be running a different version
of the Gmail software than the servers for your Gmail account, so this
isn't 100% conclusive.

Could you possibly find out the exact text of the message telling you to
switch back to standard view? And does it appear as soon as you login,
when you follow the Settings link, or when you attempt to save changed
settings?

Also has this always happened or is this a new problem? Sometimes this
page is taking longer than usual to load comes up when Gmail is in a
bit of a mess and then a day or so later it returns to normal.

 Hi Steve

Without more details about your system (e.g. what country, what browser
and version, what JAWS version, whether you are on broadband or dialup,
what your web experience is like in other respects), it's difficult to
make any suggestions. But I seem to be able to change settings in basic
HTML view in Firefox 2.0. I'm not using JAWS, but I doubt JAWS is
interfering with Gmail in this case.

I think you'll find that in Gmail's case you need to configure that
 from
 Gmail.

Note that this select box is
 not
labelled correctly, so you may only be able to tell which one it is
 from
 the select options.

By the way, I personally would recommend archiving your email with
Google, rather than just deleting it. I would have lost a lot of my
 mail
if I'd relied on my local copy alone.

[JAWS-Users] Re: FS Demo

2007-04-15 Thread Flor Lynch

You would have installed the FSReader Demo and Training in or after the
installation of JAWS6. Likewise, in JAWS7 and JAWS8 it comes as one of the
last prompts in the installation. perhaps you did not install it with them?
There was some difference made to it at the time of JAWS7.0 - and I
ascertained that by going in there myself with JAWS8. Indeed, subject to
confirmation or an official denial, it's possible that JAWS8 (as a
different and then new version) has a new DAISY training set-up.

[JAWS-Users] Re: Reversing Sleep Mode and Kurzweil Problems

2007-04-15 Thread Flor Lynch

Hi Shirley,

It is very unlikely that installing version 11 will cause your present
scanner not to work. The actual scanning is done by the scanner and its
drivers, itself; it is the OCR that Kurzweil does. To attempt to resolve
the Kurzweil 1000 JAWS Configuration problem:

1. From anywhere, open Configuration manager with Insert+6 (that's number
6), [and assuming that the Insert key is your 'JAWS' key - The JAWS key is
the relevant operator.]

2.  Hit Ctrl+o to open;

3. In the list view of files, keep hitting the letter k until Kurzweil 1000
is highlighted.

4. Open it then. (You are opening the Kurzweil1000.jcf.)

5.  Hit Alt+s for Set Options; and the letter a for Advanced;

6. There now is a checkbox, sleep mode enabled, checkbox checked. hit
spacebar to uncheck it.

7. Tab over to ok your changes. and hit enter.

8. Hit Ctrl+s to save the change, or agree to save on the way out when you
press alt+f4 to exit the Configuration manager.
And finally:

9. Contact your friendly Kurzweil 1000 tech support to fix your problems
associated with K1000 installation, and scanner.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Reversing Sleep Mode and Kurzweil Problems

Good evening Everyone!
Last Thursday I wanted to scan some information that is not accessible in
any other media. It had been several months since I used Kurzweil, but
obviously, something is messed up big time. For some unknown reason, when I
began to start a scan, I heard a little ding and all speech ceased. I tried
everything I could think of to regain speech, but ended up restarting my
system. I phoned tech support at Kurzweil, and the nice gentleman there
suggested that I download the latest driver for my EPSON scanner. Thanks to
a terrific tech support friend at FTP, that was accomplished yesterday. To
wipe the slate clean, so to speak, I removed Kurzweil from the control
panel, did a disk cleanup, a defrag, then installed Kurzweil again.
Initially, it seemed to be working just fine, which thrilled me, and
consequently, I followed the steps from the JAWS-Users site to put JAWS to
sleep. I think I did it correctly, but unfortunately after refreshing my
memory on all the various key functions of Kurzweil, that nasty little ding
to begin a scan, totally halted all speech again. In pure frustration, I
removed Kurzweil again, but now whenever I alt-tab, Jaws tries to speak, but
is abruptly silenced. My question is, How do I reverse the steps of putting
JAWS to sleep? I have three versions of JAWS on my computer; 5.1 was the one
I used last night, primarily because it has always functioned the best. I
have a real aversion to messing with settings, but logic tells me that there
must be a way to safely reverse that process.
It was suggested that I upgrade Kurzweil from version 7, which is what I
have now, to the latest version, which is 11. I am trying to decide now
whether to call tech support at Kurzweil again, or wait until my son visits
in six weeks. Something tells me that if I upgrade Kurzweil, my scanner will
most likely need to be replaced as well.
Hopefully, my explanation is understandable. If any of you have advice on
any of the above mentioned, please pass it my way. I would appreciate your
feedback. Thanks in advance.
For now...Shirley

[JAWS-Users] Re: FS Demo

2007-04-15 Thread Ricque

The setup is the same, but beginning in version 7.1, when you update Jaws
from the Jaws interface, if there are any updated daisy material it will be
listed in the list of updates.
From the start menu, and programs, select Jaws 8.0 sub-menu, and then the FS
Reader demo.
When the application opens, you can down arrow thru the tree and just press
enter on an item and it will be read aloud if there is audio support for
that topic.
Alternatively, you can press the tab key once and then use standard reading
commands for Jaws to read the text.
I haven't tried this yet, but I suspect that you could use the RealSpeak
voices, or any other Sapi 5 voices for that matter with the say all command.

[JAWS-Users] Re: RE TELEPHONE NUMBERS

2007-04-15 Thread Denny Huff

I'll have to agree with the personal phone numbers and addresses on emails.
I am the web master for the Missouri Council of the Blind and when I took it
over, everybody had their personal information on the web page. That was
the first thing I did was to remove all personal information. They don't
realize that there are perverts out there and especially knowing that a
person is blind, it makes it even more tempting to try and take advantage of
them. I can understand business phone numbers and addresses, but not
personal info.

Spammers are more likely to respond to emails than to take up the 'phone.

Marilyn and list,
While it is true that the list archives can be viewed by the general public,
your e-mail addresses cann not!
David and I have taken care of this on both the jaws-users list, and the
blind-computing list.
Still, Kerrianne and Rick have a good point to consider.

Hi Donnie,

Go the view menu to arrange by and choose the customise button.

Tab to the sort button and after pressing enter on that, tab until you
hear ascending, choose thud descending radio button and after hitting enter
on okay a couple times, you should be good to go.

I have a question about Outlook 2000. When I go into a folder to read my
email, the latest email is highlighted. I like to read my email from the
oldest to the newest. Is there anyway I can have the oldest one highlighted
instead of the newest one? I know I can move it manually, but I'm getting
pretty lazy and I would like for it to be done for me automatically. Grin.

[JAWS-Users] Re: Reversing Sleep Mode and Kurzweil Problems

2007-04-15 Thread Shirley

Thank you very much. The sleep mode has been reversed. Your directions were
excellent. I will phone Kurzweil's tech support division tomorrow. I do
appreciate your kindness. This list is a true blessing indeed.
Happy computing everyone!

2.  Hit Ctrl+o to open;

3. In the list view of files, keep hitting the letter k until Kurzweil 1000
is highlighted.

4. Open it then. (You are opening the Kurzweil1000.jcf.)

5.  Hit Alt+s for Set Options; and the letter a for Advanced;
