There is going to be an event on Monday night that my team and I have been
invited to participate. It looks like a good chance to promote the list and I
certainly hope Bob, Kerry, and Rick join me. Believe me folks without the three
of them this list would be a parking lot as it approaches 400

Hello, My name is Liz, and I am new to this list.
In the next month or sooner I will be giving my computer that has been
faithful and true for 8 years a proper burial. I will be upgrading to a
totally new system which will more than likely have Windows Vista installed
on it. I'm not too
Thank you Dave! Now that is cool having the basics already on the CD. Are
there tutorial files for Word-2007 and Office-2007?

The basic training recordings have been completely redone over for Vista.
They will come on your CD or of course may be downloaded from the web.
Welcome to the list, you tripped the membership counter to 380.

you should be able to set up a hotkey for jaws even while its
running, have never heard that you couldn't and i've been using jaws
since 2.0 when it came on four floppy disks and the fifth one was the
authorization disk.
all you have to do is locate the shortcut link on your desktop and

Hi Liz,
I have been successfully using JAWS 8.0.20 with vista. I can only
imagine that JAWS 9 will work even better when I install it. Vista is laid
out differently than XP but when you get the hang of it, it is just as good
as XP ever was. I hope this helps.
God bless,
Mark

Jaws 9 works very well with Vista. Only complaint I have is the crackly
eloquence on my machine. Other than that Jaws continues to improve with
Vista. More needs to be done but I think you'll find it very usable in
almost all areas.

I was under the impression that XP was still being sold with some computer
companies.
I think Dell is one that is still selling computers with XP on them.

Yes, some companies are still building computers with Windows-XP on them,
but they are becoming farther and fewer in between., and most places such as
Best Buy do not have them on the shelf. You have to custom order the
computer. Dell is one of the companies who still installs Windows-XP, but

For anyone that participated in the JAWS 9 Public Beta process, I wanted
to remind you to check from updates before December 1 in order to get
the final release installed before the public beta build expired on

That's incorrect If I have a new jaws I can assign a hot key to it while
it's running.

Hi Marilyn
The very first time JAWS 9.0 runs after it's installed, you *should*
see that the startup wizzard is there. It allows you to configure the
rate of speech for JAWS, wether or not it starts when windows starts,
keyboard settings i.e. what keyboard layout you use, verbocity
settings,
Well, that's just ducky, andy. I hope Eric Dammery is listening in today.
Thanks for the info. marilyn

I have never been able to fill in the hot key field in the properties
for the JFW desktop shortcut by using JAWS itself. It just doesn't
stick. I have found that the only way to do this and to get it to stick
is to either use another screen reader for the operation, or to use
Narrator, or
I couldn't fill it in with jaws either. It had a G there which would not
delete so I couldn't replace it. Nuts. marilyn

Although you don't need a hotkey to start Jaws when you boot the machine,
it is necessary to bring it back should you have to unload Jaws for any
reason without re-booting the computer.

I don't use a hotkey at any time.
Hi, I've noticed with the final JAWS 9 that the crackling Eloquence has
somewhat been diminished. Anyone noticed this? Using Vista Home Premium.

Max, what he meant is that if you check start jaws automatically in the
basics menu, it will come on without a hot key. Actually, I just go to the
start menu and hit j when jaws is off and then hit enter for it to run. I
do use run sometimes as you do. marilyn

I have found this to be the case sinceJAWS8, if not JAWS7x. Another trick
that might work is, if you tab quickly to the OK button and hit enter. (a)
Do it quickly; and (b) do not shift-tab at any stage.

The only time you can't set a hot key for something on the desk top
is when that key is already in use by another program.
So she should check her previous version of jaws and see what the hot
key is for it and if set. Then she can either remove it or change it

Hello,
Recall that registering and activating JAWS refer to two separate
procedures.
Your JAWS shipment came with the software installation CD, as well as an
authorization CD. Think of the authorization CD as a shortcut to typing
in your authorization code--that is, the code is available
