When I have the information, I will pass it along and maybe you all

 Hi,

Pardon me for my lack of computer terminology. If the Firewall was
blocking JAWS, shouldn't his earlier versions of JAWS not function at

problem is that Research It is not working as expected.

 Hi,
I think you misunderstood what I wanted to ask. I know how to use
the currency converter. The problem I'm facing when trying to help my
friend is that none of the 22 services worked. Even wanting to find

Same for the currency conversion, we presented the information as how

Hello Prateek,

One way you can stop the application title and document name being
announced

when you start a program is by adjusting the verbosity settings in
configuration manager. You can make the changes for a specific
application

or to apply as default for all programs.

Use JAWS key with 6 to open a configuration manager for the application
you

are working in, and use CTRL+Shift+D to load the default configuration
manager. With default.JCF open, use Alt with S to bring up the settings
menu, and then press V to open the verbosity dialog box. Use tab key to
move to the group of radio buttons from which to choose a verbosity level,
and choose by using up and down arrow keys between the beginner,
intermediate and advanced levels. With one of the radio buttons selected,
tab to the settings button for that level of verbosity and press spacebar.
You will be presented with a list of items. The top choice is for the
application start message. It should not be checked. If it is checked
then

press spacebar to remove the checkmark. Press the letter D to move to the
document name choice and make sure it is not checked. If it is checked
then use spacebar to remove the checkmark. Tab to OK and press spacebar.
Tab to the group of radio buttons and make sure the selected button is for
the level you changed. Tab to OK and press spacebar. Use CTRL+S to save
changes and close the program with Alt+f4.

You can do the above steps for each level of verbosity if you want to so
that the program and document names are not announced when you open them.

You could write AutoStartEvents in individual program script files, but I
think this way should accomplish what you are trying to do. However, I am
not sure how the changes will affect pop up windows, screen savers, etc.

Take care.

Win7 and JFW11.

How can I adjust the default.jcf file via config manager or how can I
using
any other way set JFW to not announce the program name when I launch it?
I
n notice jFW announces the text there on the title bar (right on top) of
the

program which almost always starts with the name of the program. Is there
any way for JFW to not announce that.

My motivation: Say I'm streaming music online or playing mp3 off my PC
hard
drive and each time the screen saver kicks in JFW announces the name of
the

screen saver which is an annoying interruption to my listening.
As I say above I am looking for a way to set JFW to not announce the name
of

the program for all programs on my PC via the default.jcf file.

Thx much for any suggestion even if you tell me it is not possible at all
in

which case I'll adjust my expectations of JFW.

[JAWS-Users] Changes and fixes in update for the JAWS 12 Public Beta posted September 22nd

2010-09-23 Thread Eric Damery
Greeting all,

For those of you who have installed the first public beta of JAWS 12 in
early September, you should be alerted of an update when you restart it
today. Below, I have included the list of changes we have made and we
are continuing work now as we work towards another update in early
October. Thanks to all of you who have provided feedback and we look
forward to hearing move in the coming weeks.

Regards,

Freedom Scientific

New Features added in second Public Beta, JAWS 12.0.451

The following features have been added to the latest JAWS 12 public beta
release.

Reading HTML Tables

The default setting for reading HTML table titles has changed so that
JAWS now conforms to industry defined HTML standards by only reading
table headers that are properly marked up. You can see this when using
the CTRL+ALT+ARROW Keys to move through an HTML table.

While the default setting is now set to Only Marked Headers, you can
continue to use earlier functionality for reading HTML tables if you are
more comfortable with those settings. To change settings, press INSERT+V
to open JAWS options, and then press T to move to the Table Titles
Announce option. Next, press SPACEBAR to cycle through and select a new
setting, and then ENTER to save the change.

Remember that you can always use Personalized Settings (INSERT+SHIFT+V)
to customize how JAWS reads table column and row headers on any given
Web site, without modifying how JAWS reads table headers on other Web
sites.

For more information about reading HTML tables, visit the Tables section
of Freedom Scientific's Surf's Up
http://www.freedomscientific.com/../Training/Surfs-Up/Tables.htm .

NCAA Football Lookup Source in Research It

NCAA Football is a new addition to Research It. Use it to search for the
schedules or results of your favorite college football teams. Because of
the number of college teams, there are several ways to get search
results.

One way is to open Research It (INSERT+SPACEBAR, R), type a date using
the mm/dd/ date format, and then select NCAA Football. This shows a
full list of games scheduled or played during that week. Another is to
leave the search field blank and see schedules or results for the
current week. The last way is to search for your favorite college teams
by typing team names separated by a semicolon. This shows the current
week's schedules or results for those schools. For example, type
Florida; Texas; California to view results for teams with Florida,
Texas, or California in their names.

Search results display in the Virtual Viewer as a link so that you can
open a Web browser and read a recap of past games or a preview of future
games. Press CTRL+DOWN ARROW to move between the dates displayed for the
week.

Update to NBA Scores and NHL Scores

The NBA Scores and NHL Scores lookup sources in Research It have been
expanded and now provide links to box scores and game summaries. Each
game listed in the Virtual Viewer is now a link. Select any link to
launch your Web browser and read a recap and statistics of past games,
or a preview of future games.

Improvements with Adobe Flash

JAWS can now announce buttons and other items that did not work
correctly on some Flash Web sites. Examples of Web sites that now
function properly are Audible.com and Dominos.ca.

Enhancements in JAWS 12.0.451 (September 2010)

the initial public beta release.

being saved in Settings Center after closing and restarting JAWS.

restarting JAWS.

Its reading the first line twice in every messsage in Windows Live Mail
as well which it never used to.
 Hello all.
Before possibly reporting this to Freedom Scientific through their bug
report form, I am noticing inconsistent behaviour when reading
messages in Thunderbird. For example JAWS will read part of the body
of the message twice, with the second time reading in its entirity.
whereas other times it reads the message fine. This did not happen
 with the first public beta.

[JAWS-Users] Sound keeps setting itself to zero.

2010-09-23 Thread Josh
Friends,
Can anyone assist me with my Dell Inspiron 1545 problem? The computer which is
running Windows XP Pro and Jaws 11 and 10 full versions keeps resetting its
volume levels to zero. I am not sure if this is a Jaws setting or what causing
this. I use a logitech headset and microphone and the headset works fine but if
I send someone a message on AIM or click on a website and this volume problem
has occurred I cannot tell if someone sent me a message or if the website is
attempting to open or anything like that as I have my computer sounds still
coming through the computer. The only sounds i have coming through the headset
is Jaws. I have looked through my jaws settings but not really sure what
setting I would be looking for just trying to see if something seemed obvious.
Thanks

[JAWS-Users] JAWS Scripts to convert a book to be readable with Talks with Mobile Phone

2010-09-23 Thread Emanuel Boboiu (Manu)
Hello,

Quick Reading on Mobile is a system programed in JAWS Scripting and allows you
to convert books to be readable on your Symbian Phone using Nuance Talks screen
reader.
The link to download the program is after instructions in this message.

After installing Quick Reading on Mobile, you will find on the desktop an icon
named Quick Reading on Mobile 2.1.
Pressing enter on it, Notepad will open. Here you must have in Format menu, the
option Word Wrap not checked.
Open the document in your text editor with the book you want to convert, select
all and copy the content to clipboard.
When you are on the Notepad window with the template opened, press Control +
Shift + H to start the process. Don't press Control + V to paste the text, this
will be done automatically for you..
First of all, a question will appear: Are you sure you want to convert?.
Press Yes or No.
After, an edit box will appear asking the name for the document and file.
Another edit will appear asking for the distance between bookmarks. The
distance is calculated in Page_Downs. 10 Page_Downs mean approximately 5 Word
pages.
Wait until Notepad will close.
During the process, don't do anything, don't touch the keyboard. It is better
to have your Messenger closed.

The book converted into HTML will be found in Documents folder.
You must copy the converted file into your Mobile Phone and open it pressing
Select Key on it.
Your Internet Browser will open the document without connecting to internet.
For each Bookmark you will find a heading Level 2. During reading the book, you
will hear: Heading Level 2 - Bookmark 1, Heading Level 2 - Bookmark 2 etc.
Next time you will open the book on your mobile, you can find the bookmark
pressing H Key 4 on you keypad. Press key 4 until you will hear Heading
Level 2 – Bookmark x, where x is the bookmark you were last time.
This version is tested with Symbian 3rd Edition with Nuance Talks 3.6 and 4.0.
These scripts works with all versions of JAWS.
The Say All command in Nuance Talks is Talks Key + Down Arrow.

Enjoy reading with your Mobile Phone!

Yes of cource, totally free.
I am sure it is useful, we read books on mobile phones for a long time using
it.
It is easy to find a place were we stoped before, just pressing 4 key to
find the heading with the bookmark number 5 for instance, this being the
last one I heared last time i read that book.
It is possible to read books like on the computer. Not only books, any kind
of texts.
When i go to work for instance, on the bus I am reading scaned books using
headphones.

You can do anything with the program, it's free.
   Best wishes!

[JAWS-Users] Research It Question

2010-09-23 Thread Josh
I just authorized my Jaws 11 the other day and have been playing around with
the research it feature. If I come up with 100 results on a people search is
there a way to go to the next ten results since it only shows ten at a time?

Yes, I too work in a call center and always have. It depends on the
software, if it's not see if your rehab counselor will get a script writer
for you.

Hi all,

Has anyone used JAWS in a call centre type situation?

I've gotten a job at my university's call centre. Obviously, I'm unsure
how

accessible the software will turn out to be with JAWS. We're using two
programs - they are called RuffalloCody and QuickAddress Pro.

Thanks,

Grant

I too use a braille display, a braille display is recommended in some call
center environments because it makes your job a lot easier. I work at a bank
and I would be lost without a braille display.

So this will stay on topic of Jaws In most cases and with the help of
script

writing the simple answer is yes. Where some people, run into trouble is
getting the brain to multi task effectively. Unless you want a person
knowing you are blind. One wears a head set with Jaws in one, ear,
customer

chatting away in the right ear, and you answering the questions or getting
information, while, typing on the keyboard. I have worked and still work
at
AAA, Call Center where 2 other blind and 2 visually impaired work too.
I've
been there 10.5 years. As noted if the company is willing to work with
you,

some script writing you will be fine. Especially with the latest jaws. If
you are working with a Braille display in combo you are pretty much
Golden.

Just my point of view, Geno

[JAWS-Users] Unblocking someone in Windows Live Messenger

2010-09-23 Thread Betsy Whitney, Dolphin Press
I am running XP Home and the JAWS beta, 12.0.451. I have recently
downloaded and installed Messenger. I am doing something wrong when I
add contacts and they are showing as blocked. I have read the JAWS
information pertaining to Messenger, and looked through the Help
topics in Messenger, but I can't
1. Figure out how to keep the additions to my contact list from
showing as blocked, and

2. Find out how to unblock them.

A friend said to go to the Contacts Menu and click on Unblock, but it
isn't there.

Any help will be most appreciated.
Betsy
