[JAWS-Users] FYI updating java

2011-03-15 Thread tim

Your going to notice a change in updating java.
now it has a mcaffee scan install. So your going to have to tab to
the check box and un check it. That box will just say checked, but
that page will tell you it is installing it.

Once you un check it the install will go as normal.

[JAWS-Users] JAWS 11 and Win 7

2011-03-15 Thread Jorge Paez
Hi all:
Just had a quick question.
I'm thinking of getting a new PC-based laptop running on Win 7.
I currently have Windows XP Pro SP3 running with JAWS professional, but they
only have Windows 7 Ultimate in store preinstalled.

Would JAWS 11 pro work on Ultimate, or would I have to pay to buy pro?
If so, what's the price for a n upgrade usually around?

Thanks,

Jorge

JAWS Pro works with Win 7 Ultimate for sure.
In fact I'm using JAWS 12 (Professional) here on my Windows 7 Ultimate Edition
(64-bit).

Jaws 11 pro works on all versions of Windows 7. Jaws has two versions, so
you need to get the 64-bit version if the laptop has the 64-bit version of
Windows.

2011-03-15 Thread Fanus
Hello Rick
Thanks for the instructions. Just one observation: jaws is
supposed to be installed without sighted assistance but the
last few times I needed sighted assistance because at the
beginning of the install the install program says that it
wants to make changes to my system. this does not talk, so
there is no way to get to the stage where jaws is speaking
without sighted assistance. I find this a bit unfortunate of

 1. click on computer

 3. Click on windows (press w until you hear windows)
 4. Now press the letter s or s y s t e m until you get to

If you do not want to take that long route, once you are

[JAWS-Users] best player to use with jaws to play DVDs.

2011-03-15 Thread jim rawls
I am running windows 7, jaws 12 on a 64 bit machine, and have windows media
player 12 set to play DVDs. Trouble is, I am not having very good luck with
it. When I put the DVD in the computer, windows media player comes up, and
when I tab around, I see that the play button has been pressed. However,
there is no sound or picture. My sighted wife comes along and presses play,
and it works. What am I doing wrong, and is there a better player to play
DVDs, more accessible to jaws 12? Jim

Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS 11 and Win 7

2011-03-15 Thread Øyvind Lode
JAWS 64-bit is required to run on a 64-bit operating system.
So, no if the CD only contains JAWS for 32-bit OS'es it won't work.
But you don't need to buy JAWS 64-bit.
Your JAWS license can be used with both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of JAWS.
Go to FS home page and download the appropriate version.

Re: [JAWS-Users] restoring desktop itums lost!

2011-03-15 Thread Ann byrne
Most likely just the desktop icons are lost. the actual files,
unless specifically downloaded to the desktop, live somewhere else.

1. Go to program files and look for them
2. Move the cursor to one that you have found
3. Press the context menu key.
4. arrow down to the send-to submenu
5. right arrow to open the menu, and choose 'desktop, create short cut.'
6. ress enter.
7. Go to the desktop and look for the item. It will either use the
program name--Microsoft Word--or something like 'shortcut to Microsoft Word.

8. If you want to change the name, press f2, make the change, and press enter.

Good luck! those wonderfully curious, busy-fingered beasties can
sure raise Cain with a computer!

When you get a message like changes will be made to the operating system
which you will get for many programs that you want to install, if you simply
hit alt you for yes or alt n for no you can complete or not complete
(smile) your task. Infact, inwindows 7 if you listen carefully you will hear
a tone even prior to the message being spoken.

Thanks for the instructions. Just one observation: jaws is

there is no way to get to the stage where jaws is speaking

Here's what I do to get to the volume CTRL in windows 7.
 1. click on computer
 2. click on local disc: (c)
 3. Click on windows (press w until you hear windows)
 4. Now press the letter s or s y s t e m until you get to
 system 32 and
 press enter
 5. Now type SND until you get to sndvol.exe and press
 enter to look at the
 volume mixer.
If you do not want to take that long route, once you are
 on the sndvol.exe
option, you can bring up the context menu and send it to
 the desktop (or
where ever you prefer), pin it to the taskbar, start menue
 etc for quicker
 access.
I renamed the sndvol.exe to volume CTRL and just placed it
 on my desktop,
 so
I wouldn't have to take the seenick route.
I hope this is what you were looking for, if not,
 hopefully someone will
bennefit from what I just wrote.:)
 Have a good day.

This sounds odd. I've had this happen when you take out 1 DVD and put
another one in, but not from the get go. As far as accessibility goes, Media
player is great and it would work just fine with JFW where it not for that
it thinks that Jaws is trying to coppy the DVD and there fore not allowing
it to play. I told FS about this, but they don't think they'll fix it. Even
with Narrator Media Player is great though. I don't understand what's
happening there.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] best player to use with jaws to play DVDs.

Jim

[JAWS-Users] iTunes and the F6 key

2011-03-15 Thread agent086b

Hi,
has there been any news if FS are likely to push out a script update for
iTunes?
As I expect you all know the F6 key does not switch to the other pains
in the latest version of iTunes when in the store. Well at least those
who use iTunes.

All the best
Max.
