I find that shift tab will bring you back to your list of emails. I am not
sure of the settings but somethimes hitting the tab key will open an email
rather moving you to the search box and you have to shift tab to bring you back
to the list. On occasion I have pressed enter to open the email
Under the view menu you will find the layout submenu and in there you can find
the preview setting and a couple of other settings.
