Re: [JAWS-Users] problem with chrome

2017-05-13 Thread Brian Lee
Hello Lenny,

Here is something you can try to stop that recurring message. This worked
for me on the web site you gave a link for in your message.

Go into the settings center with JAWS key 6 and in the search box type the
word Verbosity.
Use down arrow and use enter key on the Configure Verbosity levels choice.
Use right arrow key to open a level.
Arrow down to the verbosity level you are using. In my case I used down
arrow to the Advanced item. Press spacebar.
Press S to go to Screen Message and then use spacebar to uncheck it.
Tab to OK and use spacebar.
Tab to Apply and use spacebar.
Tab to OK and use spacebar.

Each verbosity level has Screen Message as an item you can check or uncheck.

Here is what the JAWS help says about screen messages:

Screen Messages
This type refers to text that is written on the screen, but may not be
attached to a particular control or read automatically by JAWS. For example,
in a dialog box, you may find radio buttons that have additional or related
information found in another nearby window.

Take care. I hope this works for you.

I have been searching through the jaws virtual settings and made some
changes with no good result.
Trying to read the local paper http://republicanherald.com/news chrome
continually reads photo and a headline It keeps going through the list. I
can read it with I.E. and Firefox without this problem.
If I do click on a story jaws can read it but after every line the photo and
story link are read as well.

Well that indeed helped. I still have problems reading the page because of
the photo links repeating. As long as I use the down arrow or read all I can
get through. A slight break and the photo links starts reading again. I
toyed with a few other settings and nothing seams to work.

It stops the nuisance ad (or it did for me) on the Page Lenny brought up in
Google Chrome. The links also appeared to read better.

There may be other ways within Google Chrome to tackle the problem, like
reducing text size; but this one is in JAWS.

Lenny,

'Ignore Inline Frames' checkbox is by default not checked. Check it. I think
you may find it gets rid of the obstruction. You'll find the setting in JAWS

| Default All Applications | Settings Center | Web / HTML | PDF's |
| Headings
and Frames (right-arrow to open this Headings and Frames, and arrow down).
(Save when closing Settings Center.) If you want to, you can undo the change
by unchecking that checkbox. (Save when closing Settings Center.)

Okay, here is one old JAWS user's opinion.

I Am now using Chrome as my primary browser. Things load more reliably,
fewer lockups, more stable streaming video. It was a long time coming for
me to make the switch, but I just found more and more times ending up having
to use Chrome because IE and Firefox were mis-firing. Yes, Chrome does
operate differently and takes a bit of time to get used to, but for purposes
of reading what is on the web page, Chrome works the same with JAWS
navigation as is the case for IE or Firefox. In fact, my transition to
Chrome started by my having links in emails open in Chrome, since that
provided me with the web page all ready to read. From there over time I
learned the other basics such as saving favorites, and about a month ago
realized that Chrome had become my general use browser, so I made the final
switch and Chrome is now the default browser for all purposes.

I can not even test it. I made the change as you suggested. I suppose that
it did mute the adds. The bigger problem is that it continually reads photo
and a headline link. It goes through every link when I try to go to a story
it starts over. I am using the latest jaws 18 with a win 7 machine.

I was hoping to get away from I.E.

Re: [JAWS-Users] browsers

2017-05-13 Thread Flor Lynch
Google Chrome tends to work better with later versions of JAWS. Nonetheless,
which browser is best is rather an individual site use case, depending on
each Web site you visit. Thus, it is a good idea to at least install other
useful Web browsers, of which Firefox and Google Chrome are two, and try to
give each of them a brief spin before deciding whether or not to change your
efault browser. If you don't want to change, you don't have to. It is also a
good idea to try to have a demo version of a later JAWS if you';re using an
earlier edition, or to have an alternative screen reader.

2017-05-13 Thread John M.

Hi John,

In my opinion, you are better off just using the security software that is
built-in to Windows 10. It is the equivalent of Microsoft Security
Essentials. This is the only security software, along with Malwarebytes,
that I have used on my and my clients computers for the past seven
years--with no problems. On my computers, I still use the old, accessible
version of Malwarebytes. I am even beginning to question the necessity for
Malwarebytes--and not even from the standpoint that they just can't seem to
get accessibility right. Of course, your browsing and email habits can make
a big difference in the security of your computer.

Best,

[JAWS-Users] Jaws 18 and Outlook 2016, Reading Messages

2017-05-13 Thread Jim Fettgather
Hello to the list.

On two different computers running the latest Jaws 18 and Outlook 2016, I
have noticed that when pressing enter to open a message, jaws will begin to
prematurely read the message, and then interrupt itself with "Message has 13
links", and then either continue to read the message, or, start back at the
beginning.

This seems to happen about 70% of the time.

I have turned off all panes, the reading pane, preview pane, all other panes
that I can find in Outlook.

This behavior does not seem to occur in Outlook 2013, but is very
distracting in outlook 2016.

Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this same behavior?

Thanks a lot.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Creating a CSV file

2017-05-13 Thread Mike B.
Hi Jorge,

Below are 2 ways of copying your contacts over :
From: Adrien Collins
Just copy the pst files, in windows 7, go to c drive,
uncheck hide hidden files and folders, then go to users,
then to your user account, app data, Microsoft, outlook, you
should find at least one pst file in here, copy this to both
pc's, they should be compatible, the only thing is that the
message rules are stored in the pst file, they may not work
on both pc's. good luck. Don't forget to hide hidden files
and folders again after. It would pay you to create a
shortcut to the outlook forder as it will make it easier to
copy the pst files without having to go round the houses.
Regards
Adrien

From: DANIEL MALONE
Under import and export, in the file menu, choose export to a file.

Then arrow once to, comma separated values and press enter.

Then arrow up to contacts and press enter.

Type in the file name, keeping the .csv extension.

This file will probably be found in documents.

Take this .csv file to the new computer to import it.

On the new computer, choose, import from another program or file.

Then choose comma separated windows again.

When it asks for file name, you can browse for it to pick it, from the thumb
drive is you want.

After choosing, it will prompt you where it is to go, choose contacts and
follow the prompts.

[JAWS-Users] Playing dvd's with power dvd version 12

2017-05-13 Thread Brian Zolo
Good afternoon, folks, Brian Zolo here in Gahanna, Ohio on a beautiful day.
I just got a new movie on dvd and wanted to view the movie. I inserted the
dvd and power dvd came up and this machine is windows 7 64-bit and I was
asked whether I wanted to play the dvd using power dvd version 12. I chose
play with power dvd and the dvd started playing but it constantly keeps
going back to playing the music at the beginning of the movie. I ejected
the dvd but wondered what the keyboard shortcuts are in power dvd or whether
there are more navigable solutions ou there to playing dvd's. I do have vlc
media player but I haven't installed it yet. I confess that I'm new to
handling dvd's as I do have lots of dvd's with old western tv series that
I'd love to be able to play but have been hesitant because I wanted the best
and accessible player to play dvd's. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Have a great day! bZ1

I agree with Justin here, although I find that, especially with Jaws 18,
Jaws now looses focus in Firefox much more often than used to be the case.

There may be other ways within Google Chrome to tackle the problem, like

[JAWS-Users] problem with chrome

2017-05-13 Thread Lenny McHugh
I have been searching through the jaws virtual settings and made some
changes with no good result.
Trying to read the local paper http://republicanherald.com/news
chrome continually reads photo and a headline It keeps going through the
list. I can read it with I.E. and Firefox without this problem.
If I do click on a story jaws can read it but after every line the photo and
story link are read as well.
