Re: [JAWS-Users] Folders in Thunderbird
Well, this might depend somewhat on your View settings, but one important key is F6. In some mail programs (e.g., Windows Mail) you use the tab key to toggle between folder view and list view. With Thunderbird, you use the F6 key for this purpose. In the View menu, you might prefer the Classic Layout. Also in the Layout option of the View menu, you will probably want to have the Folder pane checked. If you have multiple accounts, you might like to switch the Folder view to the Universal view. This will combine the Inbox, Sent items, Deleted items and Junk items for all of your accounts in a single folder respectively. This is probably my favorite feature of Thunderbird, since I monitor several email accounts. Hope this helps. Jeff On 4/19/2018 12:09 PM, jerry martin wrote: Afternoon all. Re: [JAWS-Users] word 2016 protected mode
Hi Fernando & List Members, Since y'all are talking about the status bar / line I thought this might interest some folks: To show number of lines, line number, or many other options in the status bar in Word try the following: 1. Press F6 until Status bar is highlighted. Or, until you hear Jaws report, Status Toolbar. It should be the 2nd press of the F6 key. 2. Press Shift + F10 to show options. This keystroke must be used because a right mouse click or pressing the application key will not. 3. Down arrow through the available options, and when you have found line count or something else of interest press the spacebar to check or uncheck the item. 4. when done making modifications simply press AltF4 or escape key. 5. Review your status line to insure the settings have been properly modified. Take care. Mike. Go Dodgers! Sennt from my iBarstool. Arguing with a woman is like reading a software license agreement. Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS Latest Updates Several Unresolved Issues
Hi. In the calculator, if you tab over to the history button, then shift-tab back, jAWS will usually speak the result. I know it's not a perfect solution. This UiA problem with the new 64 bit apps seems an ongoing issue. As for ResarchIt ... whether results work is wholly dependent on the source from which jAWS obtains the data. It's annoying, but fixing Researchit lookups is not, I think, a priority for JAWS developers. I know it's a neat tool; I use the dictionary primary lookup all the time because the one-keystroke lookup is extremely useful -- but you might be better off getting your stock quotes from another source. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Rebecca Lineberger Sent: April 19, 2018 5:55 PM To: jaws user's list Subject: [JAWS-Users] JAWS Latest Updates Several Unresolved Issues In "Research It," the stock quote still does not work. Hi All, Below is the latest Jaws April update, J2018.1804.26, download links plus what's new with this release. 32 Bit: http://jaws2018.vfo.digital/180426AK3935/J2018.1804.26enu-x86.exe 64 Bit: http://jaws2018.vfo.digital/180426AK3935/J2018.1804.26enu-x64.exe Enhancements in JAWS 2018.1804.26 (April 2018) The following is a list of improvements made in JAWS 2018 between the March 2018 update and the April 2018 update. JAWS list of 7 items . Resolved an issue with dongle authorization not working in the Windows 10 Spring 2018 Creators update. Customers who authorize using a dongle must install this JAWS update to continue authorizing JAWS or Fusion after Windows is updated. See the Freedom Scientific Blog for more information about Freedom Scientific software and the Microsoft Windows 10 Spring Creators Update. . For the past several releases, users have been able to press CTRL+WINDOWS Key+K in Microsoft Word, HTML pages, or PDF documents to set a temporary PlaceMarker, move the cursor to a different location in the document or web page, and then press INSERT+SPACEBAR followed by M to instantly select the text between the mark and the cursor. This update further enhances this functionality by now enabling you to select between a temporary PlaceMarker and the cursor location in standard text editing applications including Notepad or WordPad, or in Internet Explorer or Chrome when focused in edit fields on web pages or in web-based editing applications with Forms Mode active. For example, if you are reading a document in Google Docs and you want to select a couple sentences, press CTRL+WINDOWS Key+K at the location in the document where you want to begin the selection, move the cursor to where you want to end the selection, and then press INSERT+SPACEBAR, M to select the text. You can then apply any formatting as well as copy or cut the text for pasting in another location in the document or in a different application. To have JAWS read the currently selected text, press INSERT+SHIFT+DOWN ARROW. Note that due to current limitations with Chrome, text selection in Google Docs only works reliably when performed in the same paragraph. . A new option, "Use Accessibility Driver for Screen Capture", is now available in the Miscellaneous group of Settings Center and is selected by default. The accessibility driver is a system level driver installed by our software that has been used for many years to provide screen information to JAWS. This information is known as the Off-Screen Model (OSM) and is used primarily by review cursors like the JAWS Cursor and Invisible Cursor as well as by JAWS scripts. As Windows 10 increasingly uses different methods of displaying information, this legacy accessibility driver no longer works in many cases. Clearing this check box configures JAWS to use new API Accessibility Monitor technology we developed to help overcome the missing information previously obtained from the Accessibility Driver. . Resolved a reported issue with the Business Search Research It lookup source not returning any results as expected. . JAWS no longer announces the current character when DELETE or BACKSPACE is pressed in a read-only edit field or the Virtual Cursor. Since nothing is being deleted, it is not necessary to speak the character. . Resolved a reported issue where JAWS was not reading properly in certain edit fields in Visual Studio 2017. . In the Spanish version of JAWS, resolved an issue where layered command help (INSERT+SPACEBAR, QUESTION MARK) was not being displayed. list end Microsoft Office list of 5 items . This wouldn't be the case on anything on the status bar in Office 2003 and earlier. In these versions you can't get to the status bar with native keyboard commands, so you are required to use JAWS cursor unless you can find the item you need in a menu or toolbar. Re: [JAWS-Users] reading pdf's in Edge?
Do it within windows itself, as was suggested in an earlier response. Windows 10 in particular is finicky about this. You need to set most of your file associations within Windows and not within the individual programs (browsers, readers, etc). You can do this using "default programs" in control panel or, as was suggested earlier, using the context menu to pick the desired application, and checking the box that says "always use this program to open this type of file". -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Pam Sent: April 19, 2018 3:49 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] reading pdf's in Edge? Re: [JAWS-Users] reading pdf's in Edge?
I use Windows 10 and JAWS 18. JAWS OCR was apparently quite improved in version 2018, and maybe to the point now where it is more accurate/better, but even the JAWS training materials stated until recently that you couldn't use this function for reliable, high-quality oCR of scanned images. I do use Adobe Acrobat on this machine; it's an old version and really crashy, but I like it because it either has built in oCR functionality or interfaces with Windows 10's OCR feature (I still am not sure which, honestly), and it can convert to a variety of formats. I haven't yet had any reason to open a PDF (or anything else really) in Edge, but Firefox will do this, in a pinch. I still prefer Adobe for this purpose, though. And the newer versions of Reader at least are less crashy and play nicer with screen-readers, though I still have issues with Adobe and their formats. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of rosecomb...@cox.net Sent: April 19, 2018 9:55 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] reading pdf's in Edge? Re: [JAWS-Users] reading pdf's in Edge?
When it comes to reading PDF files with Adobe reader, the problems encountered are most likely to be with the documents themselves, and not the reader. Once the document is loaded in Adobe, if it does not read, whether Jaws indicates it or not, it is because it is nothing more than a picture of text. It does not read the files I send it, just the title, still have to use Jaws OCR to do it, since December last year. I can't remove it cause Jaws has to see it, but I can't use it like I did before December of last year and it is up-to-date. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-ListOn Behalf Of HICKS, Steven (ROYAL CORNWALL HOSPITALS NHS TRUST) Sent: Thursday, April 19, 2018 12:14 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] reading pdf's in Edge? Re: [JAWS-Users] reading pdf's in Edge?
Good Morning I had the same issue with Adobe. That dialog box continues to come up and Adobe never becomes the default program. Here is the solution 1 - Find a PDF file and hit your applications key while focus is on it and arrow up to properties and hit enter 2 - Shift tab to the change button and hit enter 3 - Tab once until you get to the list box of applications that could open PDF files with and arrow up or down until you find Adobe 4 - Once you have it highlighted tab to the ok button and hit enter 5 - Tab to the ok button again and hit enter. 6 - You should now be able to open PDFs with Adobe, moreover if your JAWS is up to date it will actually tell you the file is not accessible and prompt you if you want it to OCR and read it for you. Hope that helps Joe -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-ListOn Behalf Of Pam Sent: Thursday, April 19, 2018 3:49 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] reading pdf's in Edge? Re: [JAWS-Users] word 2016 protected mode
Hi Steven, You don't need JAWS cursor to activate this button. This is because this message and button are in the status bar, and since Office 2007 the status bar is also natively focusable with the keyboard by pressing F6. This wouldn't be the case on anything on the status bar in Office 2003 and earlier. In these versions you can't get to the status bar with native keyboard commands, so you are required to use JAWS cursor unless you can find the item you need in a menu or toolbar. Hope it helps! -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-ListOn Behalf Of HICKS, Steven (ROYAL CORNWALL HOSPITALS NHS TRUST) Sent: Thursday, April 19, 2018 4:15 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] word 2016 protected mode There is a place that you can click with the JAWS cursor to enable editing, it is at the top of the screen I think. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Miriam Vieni Sent: 18 April 2018 21:25 To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] word 2016 protected mode It says , "protected view", and pressing alt f doesn't get me to any menus, nor does alt v.
