[JAWS-Users] adding a gmail account to outlook

2018-07-21 Thread Kurt Miller
Hi all,

I am trying to add another gmail account to my Outlook 2010 an am having
trouble. It isn't trying to go through itself but wanting me to put the
server info in manually. Does anyone know this info? I googled it but don't
understand what all the numbers and crap it is telling me. outlook is not
using the same phrasing as the googled info so don't know what info to put
where.

Thanks,

Kurt

Hi friends,

Using the latest JAWS 2018 and Microsoft Outlook 2016.
If I open an email, I don't seem to be able to change in to JAWS cursor and
read the top of the message heading where the to and cc fields are which is
how I would normally check this.
Has anyone had any similar issues?
The only way I can read the to and cc fields is to shift+tab back to them
and it is sometimes useful to use the JAWS cursor to read the top part of
the screen.

See if the steps below will help you:
From: Kimsan
Hello:
>From within the address book, which you may navigate to by pressing CTRL
shift B, activate the file menu with alt f and arrow down to new entry and
press enter.
In the list box, focus on new contact group and tab once to the contacts
combo box and select the folder to which you would like to save your group.
You can press enter or tab to the ok button and spacebar on the ok button.
Next, you are in the contact group dialog. The first field you will have
available is the name field, so type in the name of the new contact group.
Now you must add members to your contact group, which You can select members
from Outlook contacts, the address book, or add email addresses manually.
For the sake of avoiding writers cramp, I will only explain how to select
them by addressbook.
Activate the home ribbon by pressing alt h then press m for the members
list. In the dropdown list, arrow down to addressbook and press enter.
Now, select the members, as many as you'd like. Keep in mind that you will
land in a search field first, so tab to the extended list and arrow until
you find who you are looking for and press enter and that person will be
added to the contact group. Just repeat this process until you have
everyone that you'd like to be in the group. Once you are complete, press
alt s to save it.
I hope this helps.

Try the following:

press control+shift+l to create a distribution list and type a name.
tab once and you will hear the name of the list, press enter,

tab to the list of contacts, arrow to a contact you wish to add to the
distribution list, tab to and enter on members button.
contact will be added, tab to ok and press enter.

I am sorry for this additional post, but I have just noticed another problem

Now, whenever I try to navigate a web page, I get a "clunk" sound whenever I

you get to with either control-shift-f or control-d. both work.

Second, I've noticed the same unlikely color scheme is shown in my Word 2016

Mike,
The live tiles are on the start screen. After pressing the windows key, tab
across and you will come to them.

Hi Kurt,

I have to admit, I don't have a clue as to where to find or how to get into
Live Tiles! This is a setting I have not come across, or just didn't
notice. I have accomplished getting rid of all the stuff showing in the
Jaws Task List in all Jaws versions except for J16. Thanks to you all!

Hi,
Real reason: they are windows for universal apps. When you close a universal
app (such as Skype UWP, Cortana, Microsoft Store and what not) on Windows
10, they will still run. The technical term for this is called "app
suspension" (introduced in Windows 8.x) where the app window will appear to
have closed but are in fact suspended.
The JAWS window list command (JAWS Key+F10) lists top-level windows on
screen, including windows for universal apps. The "true" ways to close
universal apps are via Task Manager or going to Settings/Privacy/Background
and preventing apps from running in the background.
Also, someone suggested (here or somewhere) to use msconfig. No, this method
won't work on universal apps at all. There will come a time in 2018 where
you can open Settings app to control which apps start on startup, including
universal apps.
Cheers,
Joseph

[JAWS-Users] Calendar reminders

2017-11-25 Thread Kurt Miller
Hi all,

I am using win 8.1, Outlook 2010 with a gmail account. I am having reminders
of garbage money making appointments coming up as reminders and they are in
my calendar also. These are from spam emails that I have never even opened
and I am wondering how I can get rid of them? There are 10 to 14 in there
daily. I am afraid to do anything but dismiss all reminders because I don't
want to get my computer infected with someone's crap.

I would appreciate any ideas on getting rid of this stuff. Just to note; I
have never messed with the calendar so don't know how to use it. This might
just be a simple solution, but don't know.

Thanks a bunch,

Kurt

To add to Nancy's response; you can select the column that you want by

use the shift f10, it is the same thing.

Kate,

I pulled up JAWS to try this and it does work the same.

I highlighted the column I would have wanted alphabetized by holding down
the shift key and arrowing down.

Then I pulled up the context menu by pressing the key just to the left of
the righthand CTRL key. Sorry, if it's got an actual name, I don't know it
offhand. But to the right of the spacebar there are four keys and it's the
third in from the spacebar or, as I said, just to the left of the CTRL key
which is at the far right.

Hope that didn't totally confuse you. :)

Re: [JAWS-Users] opening up an email

2017-06-03 Thread Kurt Miller
I just got it. Here is what I did.

While on my list of messages in my in box, I pressed the control, shift, and
the letter P. This brought up the search unread. I pressed the tab and it
took me to a list of the email accounts for you to choose from; when I got
to the one that I wanted I pressed the tab again and then pressed the space
bar and it was created under that account.

Hope this helps anyone.

Okay, I just tried to go through those steps, but they didn't work on my
Outlook 2010. Here's what did work for me, to the extent I can recall the
steps I just took. NO ribbon involved.

Look for a folder named "Search." You should find it easily with
first-letter navigation in the folders list.
Press enter, then I think tab.
As I recall, you're shown a button enabling you to create a new folder.
Press spacebar.
Here you're taken through the two-or-three step process to create an
"Unread" folder. This folder automatically collects all unread messages.

In the future, you can find that Unread folder with first-letter navigation
or by going to the "Search" folder and pressing right arrow.

I'm sorry I can't be completely sure about each step. Once I created the
Unread folder, I couldn't go back. However, once I landed on Search, pressed
enter and tab, everything after that seemed intuitive.

Patti,
The solution in Outlook 2010 and above (and possibly also below) is to
create a new folder that recognizes all unread messages and places them
there. The messages also stay in their original folders. This folder just
makes it easy to find them all in one place.

Below are instructions that I'm copying from
https://support.office.com/en-us/article/View-only-unread-messages-f2c8450c-
9cd0-4037-a5d3-26f6946727ca

To view all unread messages across multiple folders, use a Search Folder. By
default, a Search Folder named Unread Mail appears in the Navigation Pane
under Search Folders. If the Unread Mail Search Folder is missing, you can
create it by doing the following:

1. In Mail, on the Folder tab, in the New group, click New Search Folder.
2. Under Reading Mail, click Unread mail, and then click OK.

Is there a key command when you are in your inbox, and you have a lot of
emails in there to get to your unread emails?
I keep a lot of emails that I have already read.
Patti

I do the same here in outlook 2010, and if I wish to keep a message, a
simple press of the escape key puts me back where I need to be to go through
the rest of my inbox.

Adrian,
I am also using 2010. When I go to the search folder and press enter, it
gives me my office sound that nothing is there. If I press tab, it gives me
the option to cancel. If I tab again, it goes to the folders treeview. If
while on the search folder I press the applications key, it does nothing.
Could you help with what I may not be doing right?

I didn't knoe about ctrl D, thanks.

When reading my messages in outlook 2010, I open the first message and it
reads the E-mail. To close this message and delete the message, I do
control key plus letter D to delete the message and open the next E mail

Again, you do the control delete while in an open message.

[JAWS-Users] Creating a table in MS 2010

2017-03-21 Thread kurt miller
Hi all,

I don't do this very often and am having one of those moments.

I am trying to create a table in Word 2010 using JAWS 18 on Win 10. I would
like to make it 5 columns wide, with the first 2 columns wider than the last
3. I used to have the table in my quick settings on my Win 8, but can't
remember how to even put it there right now. I went into the applications
menu and went to tables, but there is more in there than I remember being. I
know what I want, but am having a brain freeze on how to do it.

If anyone can help out, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I have one of these. You scan everything as a PDF or a JPEG image. You then
need to go in and give it a name so that you know what it is later. I use

Jerry,
I have one of these. You scan everything as a PDF or a JPEG image. You then
need to go in and give it a name so that you know what it is later. I use mine
often. I have the portable one. It is a nice device.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Setting up a signature

2017-03-15 Thread kurt miller
Trevor,

I just got done doing one and still had my notes open. They are for 2010,
don't know if they changed at all for other versions.

Creating a signature in Outlook 2010

1. Alt+f=file menu.
2. T=options.
3. Down-Arrow once to mail.
4. Tab several times until you get to the word signature.
5. Press you're spacebar.
6. Tab a few times.
7. "you will hear "signature to edit".
8 Arrow up/ down until you find the email address that you want to attach
to your signature.
9 Tab twice, you will hear, "New signature".
10. Press enter.
11. Type a name for your signature. Example; the account/email address, 12.
Press tab and spacebar/enter on the okay button.
13. Now you are placed on the signature page. As you tab/navigate read
your choices for font.
14 When you arrive within the edit box here you can type in your signature,
then tab and press the okay button.
15. You're now given a screen of various choices. Tab through to decide
whether you wish to check or uncheck any of these boxes. Once you tab to
the okay button and press enter, you are placed back into the inbox and have
created you're signature.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Color-coding calendar appointments no longer works.

2017-03-06 Thread Kurt Miller
This command for identifying colors was broken in JAWS 17. I need this for
my work and I need to use JAWS 16 to perform the task. Freedom dropped the
ball in 17 and hasn't worked on fixing it yet. They told me that this was a
main priority for them, but it has been a year now and nothing. They are
adding lots of stuff and fixing other things but not this.

Judy, I don't use this part of Outlook, but I wonder if JAWS key+5 on the
number row above the letters might give you what you need. This is the key
combination for JAWS to identify the foreground and background colors at the
location where you have focus.

I used to be able to do this with Jaws 15. Our office still uses Outlook
2010. However, I am now using Jaws 17, and in the calendar, pointing to an
appointment, when I right-click and come to the colors sub-menu, now,
instead of verbally naming the colors, I am presented with a non-voicing
grid.

Are there any work-arounds for this?

Thanks very much.

Here's what I have in my files;

Directions for keeping emails as UNREAD in Outlook 2010:

Go to the View Tab

In the layout menu click on Reading Pane

Choose Options from the drop-down menu

Uncheck "Mark items as read when selection changes"

Hit OK

For now I think it would be fine to relax the guidelines just a bit and wish
good health, prosperity and happiness for the new year to come to all of the
people who make this list a success.

Happy Christmas to all from the three of us who might take the credit for
this list, but the fact is if you folks out there didn't make our jobs easy
we wouldn't want to do them any longer.

So keep doing what it is you are doing and we will cruse in to 2017 in the

But I disagree with you. I have JAWS 15, 16, 17, and 18. IE11 works just
fine with JAWS 15 and 16 (no delay in the find function), and JAWS 17 and 18
are the bad boys. So it's definitely something with the JAWS architecture
from 17 onward. They made a significant change to JAWS in that version, as
we all recall, since we were no longer able to merge from JAWS 16 to JAWS 17
due to that new paradigm. So it's definitely something they did to break
JAWS 17, and continue to not fix, in JAWS 18.

1. Open IE
2. Press alt + T for tools menu.
3. Press up arrow once and you should be on options. Press the enter key.
4. Press shift + Tab and you should hear General.
5. Press the arrow key until you hear advance.
6. Tab until you hear reset button.
7. Press enter on the reset button.
8. A dialog box will come up. Press tab once and you will hear something
about checking this box to delete personal information. Press
the spacebar here to check this check box.
9. Tab twice to the reset button and press the spacebar.
Wait a few minutes then close IE and reopen it. Now it should work like new.

Note checking the box about removing personal information will not remove

Hi Adrian,

Thanks for the idea. However, I have changed my plan for this project because
the workarounds I have are just too prone too error. I wanted to compile
recipes with each section being a new recipe. Then, have a footer for each
recipe, plus, if the recipe went to more than one page, a continuation footer
for that recipe. Page numbers continuous. Plus a front section of Roman page
numbers with a generated table of contents.

Honestly, I find so much that Jaws isn't reading in the various dialogues to do
this. I am struggling with section breaks, page numbering, and especially the
footers. So many steps backward in accessibility in my humble opinion.
And I'm supposed to pay for a Jaws upgrade SMA now. Just wondering why. How
many more things can they screw up or not keep up with? It always seems that
once past the basics, accessibility is somewhat lacking.

Sorry everyone for the vent, but I hate dumbing something down just to make it
work. I used to be able to do all of this with no problem. Now, not so much.

I notice that no MS Word 2016 user has responded. As a 2010 user, where I know

I’m using Word 2016 and Jaws 17.0.2619.

I want to create documents with page footers. Each page needs its own unique
footer. I know how to get to the footer dialogue, but Jaws doesn’t read any of
the text in the dialogue as I type or as it appears. Outside of the dialogue, I
can use insert F1 to hear document info, but this is a tedious way to check
footers, and doesn’t allow for editing, etc.

Is there a solution for this? It used to work in previous versions of Word and

Hi George,

That's exactly what I did, but when I got to the license, and pressed the
spacebar on the accept button, it took me to the what do you want to keep
dialog box.

Once there, I ended not being able to select any other option then to lose
everything.

I did this in two ways, first by using the extracted ISO file the media
creation tool downloaded and created on an external drive, then by using the
media creation tool by itself, and it took me to that same dialog box.

Tomorrow I'm going to try to install the software from the root directory, and
see if that helps,if I get the same restrictive dialog box, I'm going to
consider it a wash, and proceed.

Worse case scenario, I have to start over. LOL.

Hi Scorpio,
When, I updated to the anniversary update, I ran the FS tool, I did nothing and
after it started to install just a couple decissions, I walked away from my
laptop and let the anniversary install.
I did not touch a single key in 2 hours , It also restarted.

Read these notes below from Jim:

Upgrading manually to the anniversary Windows-10 update, with Jaws 17.
Download the Microsoft media creation tool at:
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
Go to the top of the page with Control+home.
Press H, for heading, 3 times to, Looking to install W-10 on your PC.
Down arrow three times to, Download tool now link, press enter.
Press ALT+N, for the notification bar, tab to save, press enter.
Now you are ready to begin the update to the anniversary update to windows 10.
Go to your download folder, highlight the media creation tool.
Press the applications key, go down to, run as administrator, press enter.
yes, for your users account warning.
Choose, update this computer now and press enter.
you are now in an ongoing and updating dialog which says:
Windows 10 is being downloaded, continue using your computer.
This could take anywhere between 30 to 60 minutes, depending on your download
speed.
When it is done downloading, it will go through several screens itself updating
your computer and will get it ready for windows 10.
Next, there will be a screen asking you to except the license agreement, check
the yes and press enter on next.
Again, the program will run through several screens by itself.
Next, press enter on install.
now you will have no speech, this install takes 45 to 60 minutes to complete.
Now when it is finished, Jaws will talk to you, either password edit, or pin
edit.
Type in your password or pin.
You will be on your desktop in the anniversary update to W-10.
Now, I uninstalled and then freshly installed Jaws 17.
Keeping the shared components, keeping my personal settings.
This will give you the maximum performance in the w-10 anniversary update.
Redo your shortcut key, control+ALT+j.
Redo the setting to have jaws come on at the log-on screen.
All your other settings will be remembered by Jaws.
You are done, updating to the W-10 anniversary update!

HTH,
Jorge

Hi Folks,

Running Windows 10 Pro, with Jaws 17, latest build.

I’m trying to upgrade to the newest anniversary edition of Windows 10, which, I
guess would be called and update, but when I do, I get a dialog box asking me
what to keep.

Jaws is telling I have three options, and it’s a checkbox and the three options
are to keep personal data and apps, just keep settings, or keep nothing.

The checkbox seems to be stuck on Nothing, and it won’t let me change.

I thought this was Jaws specific, but when I tried with NVDA, I got the same
result.

Can anyone advise on how I should proceed.

I would hate to lose everything, especially my data.

Any help would be appreciated.

Control and up arrow moves you up the column - to the top most of the time.
Just repeat the move if you don't get to the top the first time you use the
key combination.

[JAWS-Users] Going to the top of a particular column in Excel

2016-10-05 Thread Kurt Miller
Hi list members,

I am wondering if there is a key command that will take you to the top of a
column that you are in. I know that I can use the go to command and type in
the cell of the top of the column, but I am just wondering if there is
another way to get there. The home key will take you to the beginning of the
row so I was wondering if there was something for the top.

If there is, I haven't ran across it yet and using the go to is not a
problem. I just thought I would ask. This is something that has crossed my
mind several times.

Thanks in advance for any responses.

Re: [JAWS-Users] ms office substitute

2016-08-13 Thread kurt miller
Tom,

For those who aren't familiar with this product, LibreOffice is a free, open
source Office suite, similar in capabilities to the well-known Microsoft
Office. Its word processor is similar to Word in many respects but is
referred to as Writer, their Excel-like spreadsheet is called Calc and it
contains other programs as well. It may be appealing to some for several
reasons. First, it's absolutely free; no licensing, no registration or
activation required. It can open and save in Microsoft's formats, meaning
that it can open Word files or save spreadsheets in Excel's own format. It
also uses the traditional menu bar like Office
2003: no ribbons.

To be honest, when it comes to accessibility it's adequate and usable but it
doesn't provide the stellar performance we're used to with Microsoft's
Office products. It performs quite well with NVDA and, as of several
versions ago, usable with JAWS. It never worked with Window-Eyes, crashing
every time Window-Eyes was running although I haven't tested it with the
newest LibreOffice and Window-eyes 9.5.

When I am working in multiple open workbooks I follow the practice of saving
the current one (CTRL+S) after completing work or reaching a point where I
move to another open workbook.
In this way when you are on a workbook & wish to close it without closing
the other open workbooks CTRL + F4 will only close the workbook you are in.
I will have to try the CTRL + W that Marvin just mentioned, also.
Still, saving often with multiple workbooks open is a very good practice. I

is very annoying. I'm sure there has to be a way or businesses wouldn't use
it as much as they do.

Can anyone help make my life less annoying? I can't come up with a solution
and I know it has to be a simple one that I am overlooking.

Thanks,

Kurt

Kurt,

Control+W will close the sheet that is currently active. Also works in
Control+Word
to close the active document without closing the program.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Automatic saved copy of email, 2010

2016-06-02 Thread kurt miller
iThank you for responding.
I eventually found it. It was in the pop account. When MS helped me set up
my outlook on my win 10, they set up a pop and an imap account. I was using
the imap and they did not have it set up right.
I sent this email last night and with as busy as the list was, when I did
not get a response I knew something wasn't right. You guys are quick at
helping out. It turned out that the imap account wasn't even sending out my
emails.
I just got off the phone with MS accessibility and it is straightened out
now.
I didn't know how to do those things you said so I would have been asking
questions.
Thanks again,

Lets try two things here sir...

First, perform a search for all outlook items, or second, look in the
backstage options under mail and there is a combobox that tells you where
messages are saved.

If you do not know how to do any of the aforementioned, please speak up and
someone will gladly assist.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Getting Word 2010 to match destination in Excel formatting

2016-04-07 Thread Kurt Miller
I am typing up the responses to surveys and then I copy and paste it into
the correct cell in Excel. The thing is that when I send it back, it is not
formatted correctly. If I type directly into the Excel, it comes back in the
correct format.
My Excel is touchy. Sometimes it lets me edit if I screw up and other times
it does not and I need to rewrite it all over again. I find it easier to
just type it in Word, but I need it to end up in the correct format.

I'm assuming that you are bring over 1 cell of information from Word to
Excel. If that is the case, you might want to try using the Paste Special
options in Excel. I'm not sure if this will work. I'll be honest with you,
I find that I run into a lot of problems when I past info from Word into
Excel. What kind of information are you pasting?

them, when I enter on IE on the desktop, it tells me that IE has stopped
working and Windows will close it if it finds a solution: or whatever that
is exactly. We have all heard it at one point. The thing is the other
computer opens IE just fine. We can get Edge to work but not IE.

It has been 2 days now and it will still say the same thing. Would anyone
have any idea of what to do?

Running Windows 10, 64 bit, and latest version of JAWS 17.

Thanks in advance for any ideas.

Hi all,

I have 2 computers that are exactly the same and set up the same. On one of
them, when I enter on IE on the desktop, it tells me that IE has stopped
working and Windows will close it if it finds a solution: or whatever that

Kurt

Hello, all.

I'm getting ready to purchase a new laptop computer, and want to be sure I
get one that is adequate for Jaws. I currently use Jaws 16, and my SMA
covers Jaws 17. So I will likely put Jaws 17 on the new computer.

I realize that any new laptop will have Windows 10 as its operating system,
and am prepared to begin learning to use Jaws with that new operating
system.

My question is this:

What should I be looking for in a laptop? I found the following system
requirements on the Freedom Scientific web site, but wonder whether those
are absolute minimum requirements:

Summary: Software and hardware specifications for JAWS

table with 2 columns and 7 rows

Description

Specification

JAWS Home Use Edition and JAWS Professional

WindowsR 10, Windows 8.1, Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows ServerR 2012,
and Windows Server 2008

Processor speed

Minimum 1.5 GHz processor

Memory (RAM)

4 GB recommended (64-bit)

2 GB recommended (32-bit)

Required hard disk space

20 MB to 690 MB required per voice for installing Vocalizer Expressive,
Vocalizer Direct, or RealSpeak Solo Direct voices (file sizes will vary
depending on the voice installed)

Video

A display adapter capable of at least 800 x 600 screen resolution with
16-bit color (1024 x 768 screen resolution with 32-bit color recommended)

Sound

Windows compatible sound card (for speech)

table end

Any specific recommendations would be appreciated.

Are there certain brands of laptops I should stay away from? Right now, I'm
thinking of either an HP or a Dell.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Weather No Longer Working on Research It

2016-02-18 Thread Kurt Miller
John,

Research it is where you can look up different items in the categories
available on their list. To use it, press your JAWS command key followed
quickly with the space bar and you should hear a little click, after the
click press the letter r for research it. To get your weather, type in your
zip code then press the tab key and then there is a list of the categories
available to you, now press the letter w for weather and it will bring up
your local weather.
When you do the JAWS space bar this puts you into what is called the layered
keystrokes. After you bring up the research it and press tab you can arrow
up and down to see what all is available to you.
Have fun playing with this.

remote employee's using JAWS. I am at my wits end with IT Tech Rep's
removing or disabling JAWS as a solution to a user's problem when it is not
the cause of the problem. There are some issues that can be resolved
remotely by a Tech who understands the use of JAWS on a user's computer.

Our latest situation is that Skype for Business was pushed to everyone's
computer. It is set to automatically launch and it wants the user to sign
in. We have found countless accessibility problems with the application,
that we are taking it out of the start menu for JAWS and Magic users. At
many of our regional offices, the IT Tech's are removing JAWS or disabling
JAWS instead of doing what we asked with Skype for Business. I guess from
their perspective if the assistive technology is removed from the equation
the problem is gone. Of course, then the new problem is that the employee
cannot do their job.

If the tandem session is initiated by the "target" computer, does the
"controller" computer still need to be running the same or newer JAWS
version? Unfortunately, IT does not own JAWS17 and we've started updating
users to JAWS17.

Although at first I was under the impression that someday tandem would be a
charge service that has never come to pass. In short it is still free and
works quite well. The main requirement is that the controlling computer be
running a licensed version of JAWS and it be the same version or newer than
the client system.

The client system after landing in the utilities menu needs to hit enter
three times and then wait for the controller to give a code.

I have done it so many hundreds of times it is simply automatic, muscle
memory pretty much.

Do you need some sort of help? FYI make certain you trust the person who
takes control of your system because they have the same level of access to
it as you yourself. Naturally you can observe everything they are doing

Subject: [JAWS-Users] How To Get Rid Of Get Windows 10 Message

Hello, everyone.

Yesterday, I ran malware bytes on my home Windows 7 PC, and ever since, I
receive the "get windows 10" message every few minutes or so. I can exit
out of the message using alt F4, but the message re-appears again soon
thereafter.

How can I get rid of this message?

Personally, I find it not only annoying, but intrusive!

I do plan to upgrade to Windows 10 at some point, and don't need to be
constantly reminded of its availability!

Sorry for the little rant there, but this is really aggravating!

I just wonder why I can't stop this message without searching for a Windows
update, removing it and then returning it, or why I cannot make a choice
about browser while setting up instead of rummaging through files to make it
come up. For Pete Sakes, if they know it is broken, intended for it to be
broken for us then why did they not give us choices like many programs
offer. I am sick of the message, the more I see it the less likely I am to
upgrade until I have no choice, and if I screw up my computer while doing it
they are definitely going to hear about it. Annoying to say the least.

There is a Windows update that you can uninstall and then hide it when it
re-appears.
If I come across the article number, I will send it on to you.

Tom,
Call MS accessibility and they will take care of it so that it will not show
again until you want to upgrade. I did this and it only took them a couple
of minutes and it never has showed up again.

Mike and Joseph,
Thank you for your responses, they worked great and it now leaves the unread
in place.
I appreciate the help.

Hi Kurt,

Let me 1st preface by saying I don't use Outlook 2010, but here's a note
I've saved for future reference regarding this topic:

From: Tom Behler
Hello, everyone.

I don't know how useful this will be to the list as a whole, but thought I
would share it on the list in hopes that it will be of use to someone other
than myself.

For the past few months, I have been struggling with a problem in Outlook
2010, where unread items don't stay marked as unread as I scroll up and down
my inbox message list.

It turns out that this problem can be addressed by changing a setting in the
program, and here's how it's done.

Directions for keeping emails as UNREAD in Outlook 2010:

Go to the View Tab

In the layout menu click on Reading Pane

Choose Options from the drop-down menu

Uncheck "Mark items as read when selection changes"

Hit OK

From: David
Hello there;
I just want to point out,
The instructions you gave are absolutely correct, However, If folks have the
reading pane set to off, The options button is unavailable.
So, you would need to change the reading pane, to right, bottom, Then make
the change in the reading pane/options.
David

Take care.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Want to leave the unread left on emails

Hi all,

I just got my email set up to outlook 2010 and would like to have the unread
message left on the emails that I have not read yet. Now when I pass over 1,
the unread message goes away.

I changed this on my old system but that has been a couple years ago and do
not remember how to change it.

All help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Kurt
