Re: [JAWS-Users] Trouble assigning a hot key for jaws 17

2016-04-12 Thread DGH
Just a suggestion is to assign your Jaws hotkey according to the version
you have.
For example I have 3 different versions of Jaws on my PC. Jaws 15, 16 and
17.
I have a hotkey for Jaws 15 as alt control 5, Jaws 16 as alt control 6 and
so on.

Not sure why you would be having a problem assigning a hotkey for Jaws 17
but remember that a hotkey can be assigned to the icon on the desk top and
to the properties of Jaws in your start menu. Both places need to have the
hotkey deleted.

Hi All,

I had control-alt-J assigned as my hotkey for jaws 16, but I wanted to
reassign it to jaws 17. I went into properties under jaws 16 and deleted the
key assignment, only each time I try assigning that key combo to jaws 17 in
the property dialogue, instead of assigning the keystroke it starts up jaws
16.

When I open the property dialogue under 16, it shows no hotkey assigned.
What am I missing?

Thanks,
Kimber

Re: [JAWS-Users] Trouble assigning a hot key for jaws 17

2016-04-11 Thread Cristóbal
I always assign the number associated with the version of Jaws to the
hotkey. I.E. control+alt+6 for JFW 16 and control+alt+7 for JFW 17, etc. I
have to reassign it every time there's an update, but that's no big deal.
This way, I don't have to worry about conflicts and can switch between
versions of Jaws if I find a particular application may work better with one
version over another or if I find an update is far too buggy for my taste.

What's curious in Kimber's case is that after she's removed j from the JAWS
16 shortcut and confirmed that it's gone, control-alt -j still brings up
JAWS 16. I can't figure out why that would be.

On creation of the shortcut, which it sounds like Kimber knows what to do,
I'd add a little more. Assuming I'm want alt-control-j for JAWS 17, I'd do
as Mario suggests and type just j in the edit field. Then, instead of
pressing enter or tabbing to OK, I escape out of the dialog. For some
reason, this has been the surest way I've found for making the shortcut
stick.

Kimber, in my experience, when you attempt to assign the hotkey using
the control+alt keys, just press the letter because control+alt is the
assumed modifier Windows believes you want to use plus the letter you
type. for example, you want to use control+alt+j as the hotkey to start
JAWS, just press the letter j when you get to the field to assign the
shortcut.

if you want to use a diferent combination, that's when you have to press
all the keys you want. for example, you want to use control+shift+j
instead, press all three keys to overide the default of control+alt+ the
letter of your choice.

See if you can download "Hot Key Detective" and install. If so, it will tell

That might help.

I don't understand what you're saying.

I have cleared the hotkey in the jaws 16 properties dialogue, deleted
jaws 16 from my desktop, rebooted my machine and set the hotkey in the
jaws 17 dialogue. Still when I perform the key combo control+alt+J,
jaws 16 loads instead of jaws 17. I was able to set control+alt+7 as a
hotkey to load jaws 17, but that doesn't really answer my question of
why I can't reassign control+alt+j.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Trouble assigning a hot key for jaws 17

2016-04-09 Thread Mike B
Hi Kimber,

Are you running a shortcut filing program like Hotkey Detective that stores
all your hotkeys? Also, have you tried pinning a Jaws shortcut to the
taskbar? I have all 3 Jaws version shortcuts pinned to the taskbar, so if I
press, Windows key + 5, this will start Jaws 15, Windows key + 6, starts
Jaws 16, & Windows key + 7, starts Jaws 17. But, in order for this
sequencing to work you would need to have Windows key + numbers 1 thru 4
occupied with shortcuts as well. So, here's how my taskbar shortcuts are
layed out:
Windows key + 1, = IE11.
Windows key + 2, = Notepad.
Windows key + 3, = Outlook Express.
Windows key + 4, = MS Word
Windows key + 5, 6, & 7, = Jaws versions.
Windows key + 8, = Firefox.
Windows key + 9, = Openbook.

Take care.
Mike
Remember folks, it's tax time! If you add, IRS to the word, the, you get "T

Hello,
I have both jaws activated 16 and 17 in my desktop,
Since, I had already set the jaws quick key before on J16, it carried over
to jaws 17.
There is no need to set it again.
The proof is in the pudding:
I shut of J17 and preform the quick key and it came back on.

Hi All,

I had control-alt-J assigned as my hotkey for jaws 16, but I wanted to
reassign it to jaws 17. I went into properties under jaws 16 and
deleted the key assignment, only each time I try assigning that key
combo to jaws 17 in the property dialogue, instead of assigning the
keystroke it starts up jaws 16.

When I open the property dialogue under 16, it shows no hotkey
assigned. What am I missing?

Thanks,
Kimber

Re: [JAWS-Users] Trouble assigning a hot key for jaws 17

2016-04-09 Thread Adrian Spratt
What's curious in Kimber's case is that after she's removed j from the JAWS 16
shortcut and confirmed that it's gone, control-alt -j still brings up JAWS 16.
I can't figure out why that would be.

On creation of the shortcut, which it sounds like Kimber knows what to do, I'd
add a little more. Assuming I'm want alt-control-j for JAWS 17, I'd do as Mario
suggests and type just j in the edit field. Then, instead of pressing enter or
tabbing to OK, I escape out of the dialog. For some reason, this has been the
surest way I've found for making the shortcut stick.

Mario,

Yes, that's a good point. That way, the actual application is not invoked.

Gerald is right. However I avoid all this by assigning Ctrl+Alt+6 for JAWS
16, Ctrl+Alt+7 for JAWS 17. Have done the same since JAWS 11.

After you delete a hot key assignment, you have to restart your computer for
the change to take effect. So after you delete the hot key Alt-Control-J
for JAWS 16, restart your computer and then reassign it to JAWS 17.
