[JAWS-Users] Thunderbird Inbox Inquiry

Morning all.

I am having a bit of an issue with Thunderbird. While in my inbox, the most 
recent incoming email messages are from 3 months ago. I went into the trash and 
junk folders, but they are not there. Can anyone help me with this? I am using 
JAWS 2018 and Windows 10 on a Dell laptop. Thanks in advance.

        Hi guys i was wondering if i can get thunderbird to be on the 
last email in the in box.


Every time i open thunderbird the curser is not on my last email i have 
it set to have old emails on top.


And new ones under it.

I know in WLM each time i ipen it i am placed on the last old email.

Hit t for tools, o for options.  Tab once and go down the tree to 
security (arrow down).  Tab to updates.  Check if you want updates 
automatically. I think the default is yes.


I am using Tbird 52.7, I imagine the latest.

not find an option for updating the software. Does Mozilla send email 
notices for updates of the software? I am using JAWS 2018 and Windows 10

Jerry,

If your focus is in the recipient's edit box and you backtab (shift-tab) 
you'll find yourself in a combo box. The default for this combo box is 
To: but you can choose Cc: or Bcc: from that combo box. If you want to 
add additional recipient addresses, just press the enter key when you're 
focused on the edit box.


I hope this makes sense. Give it a try and ask again if you can't figure 
it out.

Evening all.

I need to find out how, in Thunderbird, I can get to the CC and BCC edit 
boxes when composing a new email message. As it stands currently, After 
I select a recipient, and I press the Tab button, it automatically goes 
to the subject line. I am using JAWS 2018 and Windows 10 on a Dell 
laptop with the current version of Thunderbird. Thanks in advance.

Your top line menu has a help section, which I found useful.  You might 
also want to thoroughly familiarize yourself with the Options and 
Account areas of the Tools top line menu.

Of course you are correct, I'm glad you pointed that out. however,  I 
hardly ever use the cc field though because I think it's redundant. the 
to feel and return key works nicely. Now if you want BCC that’s a 
different issue wich you address perfectly. I also have a few groups and 
sometimes I will email one group or sometimes I'll email them all 
depending on the topic which again you can use the to field and return 
method.

Dont' feel too bad because that use to frustrate me also. However, you 
really don't have to use the CC field. When you are on the to field put 
in the names press return until you have finished all the names. After 
that tab down to the subject line and then tab to the body of your 
message. That seems to work for me.

That's because control-l forwards the message. It leaves the To: field
empty so you can provide the address to forward to.

Control-shift-l replies to the list. It works on this list -- I just
used it to send this reply.

Hi Adam,

When some Thunderbird users use the, control, shift, + R, keystroke they're 
forgetting to remove any other recipients , & leaving Jaws-Users as the only 
recipient.  That's what's getting them into trouble with the moderators, 
because if they don't delete other recipients they're all the sudden cross 
posting.

When I use ctrl l the to field is blank.

I heard I think on the thunderbird forum that there is a bug with ctrl l.

When I reply to this message using ctrl r it just goes to Mike.

If I use ctrl shift r it goes to Mike and the list.

I went to the to field and deleted Mike so he doesn't get two copies.

Shift Control L, Adam, goes to the list (look on your top line menu when 
you have a message open.  Scroll over to messages and you'll see these 
options.

Hi Maria,

I figured it out why jaws was saying I have one new message and when I 
went to my in box there was no messages it was because in my web mail 
program there was a message that seemed to be stuck in their so I 
managed to delete it and everything is working fine now in my 
Thunderbird program  now

Well, unless somebody has more information based on experience, I found 
a timeline of Thunderbird releases and chose version 38.3.0 which was 
released in October of 2015 which was just before JAWS 17 was released.

Hi all,

earlier I wrote that I could not get jaws 15 to read my messages in the 
list view it would only say list view when on a message but with a 
suggestion from a list member it now reads my messages that come in.


In order to get jaws to read messages when in the list view go to the 
view menu and arrow down to sort bye and arrow down to threaded and 
press space bar this will change the list view to a tree view and jaws 
will begin to read your messages in the tree view instead of a  list view.


It worked on my computer and I am using jaws 15.0.1285

hope this helps others that are having the same problem

I'm running later versions of Windows and JAWS (Win 10 and JAWS 18) and 
just updated Thunderbird to version 52. It's working fine for me, but 
here's a couple of things for you to try.


First, you may have already restarted your computer, but if not, that's 
always a good thing to try.


Also, when I have had trouble reading the list view, I've found that 
checking the View menu sometimes helps. Try the Sort by, Threads and 
Headers menu options.

Hi

Wow! Now there's a word from the past! My dad used and like Eudora until 
they went belly up, or open source. Then he switched to web mail with 
gmail as I did, until I lost my vision. I still use gmail, but with 
Thunderbird. Once I changed two settings in the advanced settings 
section where you have to promise to be careful, and installed the 
Select Inbox add in, I've found to be a very usable email client. It 
isn't perfect, but it is far better than anything else I've looked at.

Hi,

I wrote about this problem a few months earlier and I also wrote that I 
thought it was my fire wall causing the problem but it was not but now I 
found what really was causing the problem it was one of my extensions 
that I had down loaded in Thunderbird , the extension in Thunderbird 
that was causing it to lock up for a few seconds was McAfee anti-spam so 
I disabled it and every thing works fine now.


I just wanted the list to know in case anyone els is having that problem.

Hi ,

has any one experienced this in Thunderbird 45.30

I was in my in box and I went to delete a message and it said that this 
action could not be completed because the box did not exist or something 
like that.


so I closed Thunderbird and restarted it and it worked fine .

I will have to copy the message the next time it happens.

A while ago I posted that my Thunderbird was locking up by locking up I 
mean when I went to enter the program from the icon on the desk top It 
would lock up for ten or thirty minutes and the when I went to read a 
new message in a new new message window it would lock up again .


I do not know if for sure if this is what fixed it or not but I went 
into my McAfee firewall settings and pressed set in default and the next 
day when I turned on my computer Thunderbird 45.30 worked right again.


so far I am not having any problems.

I just wanted to let the list know

Anna..the program does not respond when it opens.  What do you have to 
do to get it to respond?  I need to tab from the first screen ttwice - 
first through the tree list and then to the email list. then all is fine.

Agree, Mario, about opening/response time.  Version 45.2 seems to have 
increased the time between clicking a message open for reading and JAWS 
starting to read it.  This said, I select to read in HTML so I've always 
figured that HTML pages take awhile longer to load. But I thought Anna's 
latest issue on this thread related to opening the program.  I've 
noticed no more delay in getting the In Box than prior versions had - 
the In Box fills a message at a time.


I probably know a lot less about Tbird than either you or Maria know, 
but I'm learning.  I've no plans to bail to another email client.

try a hot key.  From the Thunderbird icon on the desktop hit the 
applications key and hit the letter r for properties.  Arrow down to 
shortcut key and write in the letter you want.  Tab to OK and hit 
enter.  Control alt plus your letter should open the program forthwith.

Dunno, but I'd suggest opening in a new tab.  45.2 seems to work better 
opening maiol in a new tab. You'll also be able to keep your email open 
while returning to the in box.

to the view menu and entering on message security info or just by 
pressing control U



I always close my messages with the escape key.

CheckAdd-ons as Mario suggested?  Tbird sometimes crashes on me. 
Deleting a bunch of sent messages seems to help.  But Tbird crashing is 
not your keyboard locking up.  Are you losing focus?  When it appears to 
lock up, try turning the numpad key off and clicking the left click 
button to the immediate right of the numpdad key button. Alternatively 
you can click the left mouse button not on a link and the page will 
refocus.  I don't lose focus in tbird, but who knows? It could be possible.


You could have a corrupted file, too.  repairing Tbird is beyond my pay 
grade.  Deleting Tbird and redownloading the latest Tbird version is an 
extreme option.  So is setting your whole computer back to the day 
before you downloaded the latest Tbird Version. Finally, it seems like 
T'bird's chat group might help.

I've not had the issue you are having, but if I were you I might check 
your settings under reading or display and see if they need changing.

do you have any addons installed? if so, check to see if they are up to 
date, or you might consider disabling one at a time to see if one might 
be causing the problem.

your settings under reading or display and see if they need changing.

set.  Have you set your receiving emails to HTML or to text? HTML takes

my Thunderbird just updated to 45.2.0

and when I go into the help menu under release notes to check to see 
what is new for this version  and enter on it it says 404 error page not 
found

entered on release notes  to check what is new for this version and I 
got a 404 error message.

if it is the only one, you need to select it by arrowing to it and tab 
to get to it's buttons. there should be a remove button. activate it 
by pressing the space bar. it may go thru two stages where it's 
unintegrating from TB, but eventually will complete.

I could not locate add in manager but under view in v45.1.0 I found a
menu called today subMenu pane. When you arrow to the right you will
find "show today f11) which appears to be checked by default. Hit
spacebar close thunderbird and when you launch it again the calendar
doesn't appear any longer.

Leonard, even if you don't intend to use lightening, hiding it does not 
prevent it from loading. it is still enabled and will slow down the use 
of thunderbird, unless you remove it:


to get to the addin manager, press alt, then t, then a.
tab twice to a list of categories and arrow to extensions. tab 3 times
