I've played with ecb a little bit, it was a few revisions back though.
And I didn't find it all that useful to me. Maybe if you could sell me
on what it brings to the table that speedbar/semantic can't do for me.

Is it the JDE or Emacs that intimidates people? I would say one
cannot use the JD
I like both ideas -- ECB, and an easy install. I could live without the
automatic install of Emacs, but having all the stuff that JDE depends on in
one easy to install bundle would be great. I think this would be especially
helpful to JDE newbies.
