Hi Loannis,

Can you elaborate more on how to do this?
where do I assign it? in the executable shell?

Thanks,

Every module of every job gets included. At a minimum only the top
projects should show up. Note that we do have plain old maven projects.

How to scale up the Jenkins dynamic slave cluster?

2016-08-04 Thread praveen

*Goal:* I would like to use Amazon Ec2 Plugin
 to add
dynamic slaves to Jenkins based on the load.

*Architecture:* Jenkins Master + 4 slaves + dynamic slaves (based on the
requirement)
1st job runs on dynamic slave (no concurrent jobs) - label1 (ami-12345)
2nd job runs concurrently on dynamic slaves - label2 (ami-23314)

These two has different AMI and different labels.

*PROBLEM:* first job is able to spin up the instance and executes the job
everything looks good. If I run the 2nd job Jenkins able to spin up the
instance, However if jobs are queued up it's not adding the new slaves.Even
though I added the instance to 4 for that AMI.

Can someone please help me on this?

Re: [pipeline][checkout][@script] Checkout procedure

2016-08-04 Thread jerome
After some thinking, the sub repos idea is a death trap, it just doesn't
work, either way of sub repos, I still need a full checkout to get the
proper JenkinsFiles, here's why:

*Note: Mercurial Base SCM here*

1. If JenkinsFile are inside a sub repos of my main repos:

   - To fetch the proper JenkinsFile I need to checkout the proper version
   of the main repos and have the sub repos to the right revision, this save
   me nothing
   - I cannot just checkout the head of the sub repos, since this may not
   be the right verison to build the main repos version

2. If main repos is sub repos of JenkinsFile:

   - I cannot parametrize my build and build different branch with
   different JenkinsFile, I need to know in advance the version of the sub
   repos which is exactly what I want to avoid by goin pipeline.

The only real option to make this work is to checkout the whole thing
twice, once in @script and one in the normal workspace.
This is a real let down, since we have a huge repos with many external sub
repos.

Maybe I'm missing something here but this feel like a weird features (maybe
an option to disable that @script thing would be very welcom).

Re: Jenkins CLI, trouble installing plugin from local hpi

2016-08-04 Thread James Richard
This is a plugin that I have created, it is not bundled with Jenkins. And
like I said, manually installing it, downgrading, uninstalling, etc. works
fine when they are done manually but when using the Jenkins CLI it has the
errors I described in the first comment.

When installing a plugin manually, it creates a {plugin-name}.bak file but
when I use the CLI it creates a {plugin-name}-{version}.bak. I assume this
might be the cause of the issue

[pipeline][checkout][@script] Checkout procedure

2016-08-04 Thread jerome
Hi,
I would like to have some information about the \workspace@script\ checkout
for the scm. It look like Jenkins made a checkout into a temporary folder
to extract the JenkinsFile. But the checkout is made for the JenkinsFile
only? because after that the repository is empty.

Do I have to make a second checkout into the workspace??? I was hoping to
have the JenskinsFile to follow the source code to make sure it stay in
sync.

We are ussing mercurial here, so I guess my best bet is to move the
JenkinsFile into a sub repos of the main project?

Or can we use the workspace with @script as the workspace or check the
JenkinsFile into the workspace directly without using the @script?

I would like to avoid 2 checkout of the whole repos for each project and
need to keep them into sync, they will change over time and I need to be
able to build old source over a long period of time (10 years in fact), so
I hope I won't have to sync 2 repos over time too much, I was really
looking forward to have the JenskinsFile into the source repos and not
having a subrepos for 1-2 files only.

No, branch indexing is at a different level, but by default it is also done
once per day. Currently `OrganizationFolder` hard-codes that, would be an
RFE in `branch-api-plugin` to make it configurable.

Yes, the regular endpoint advertised by the GitHub plugin. See the demo.

Regex on jenkins label expression

2016-08-04 Thread Mona Pinjani
In job configuration, there is a checkbox "Restrict where this project can
be run". If you select it, there is an input field about Label Expression.
Is there a way to insert of regex there, and not the exact name? I need to
build a job on more than one docker image. I tried many combinations
(puppet-enterprise-3.8.2
&& puppet-enterprise-4.3.2 ) but not able to build on multiple labels.

If yes, could you provide an example of this?
Jenkins ver 2.15

Thanks!

Excel file

2016-08-04 Thread up2u
I have a windows executable file, which will open an excel file to read data.
When I call it in the command line as administrator, like this
"G:\Jenkins\workspace\test\nls_tool.exe -xls Stringlist.xls 21",it works
will.
But when I call it through the jenkins build step, using "Execute windows
batch command" like this, "G:\Jenkins\workspace\test\nls_tool.exe -xls
Stringlist.xls 21", it cannot open the excel file successfully, and get a
fatal error: open worksheet failed.
 I Install jenkins as a windows service, and in the property of this
service, "Login" tab, I choose "this account" and input the username and
password of administrator.
I also try to run nls_tool.exe by CPAU, and use the option -u administrator
in jenkins build step, but
the problem is still unsolved.

Branch Indexing/Poll SCM equivalent with the GitHub Organization Folder

2016-08-04 Thread R. Tyler Croy

Posting this to the list because I figure the answer might be useful for
posterity. With the GitHub Organization Folder there is the "Periodically if
not otherwise run" Build Trigger which is set to "1 day" by default.

>From my understanding this also means that branch indexing on those
repositories in the organization, in effect, are also "running" once a day
(since the org is reindexed daily).

I'm curious if there is an endpoint to hit with a GitHub Webhook which will
ensure that pull requests and new branches are built on-demand?

Additionally, if my Jenkins installation is unreachable by GitHub (e.g. behind
a firewall), are there any other tunables I can use to ensure that branches and
pull requests are discovered in specific repositories in a more timely manner,
is ""reindex the entire organization" my only option?

Cheers

Saving build.xml to disk can fail for a number of reasons, and without that
file, the folder is not recognized as a build folder on Jenkins startup, and
possibly not as a build folder for purposes of the 1.597 migration.

Likely these are leftovers of that.

Not sure exactly what your situation is, but if you are using GitHub
organization folders (or single multibranch projects), you should be able
to just check `env.CHANGE_ID != null` to detect a PR build.

/userContent access needs Overall/Read permission.

Handing out API tokens even as part of URLs is not a good idea, as it gives the

The error just tells you that you can't define stages within parallel, as
there's no visualization for it -- it's strictly sequential. So remove the
'stage' statements from build() and it should be fine.

Saving build.xml to disk can fail for a number of reasons, and without that
file, the folder is not recognized as a build folder on Jenkins startup, and
possibly not as a build folder for purposes of the 1.597 migration.

Likely these are leftovers of that.

this. My attempt errors out with the message:

```
ERROR: The ?stage? step must not be used inside a ?parallel? block.
```

The goal here is to:

- build two docker images; one for arm and x86_64
- keep from duplicating the build stages in two `node {}` definitions,
hence attempting to call the build() in each node
- run the builds in parallel rather than having to wait for one to complete
before starting the other

Any pointers on getting this to work.

Thank you.

My Jenkinsfile:

```
def build() {
   stage 'repository'
   checkout scm
   stage 'vars'
   def git_tag = sh(returnStdout: true, script: '''git describe --tags ||
exit 0''')
   def arch = sh(returnStdout: true, script: '''uname -m''')
   stage 'Docker'
   def
docker_base="${env.gitlabSourceNamespace}/${env.gitlabSourceRepoName}"
   def git_branch = env.gitlabTargetBranch.split('/').last()
   def docker_tag = "${docker_base}:${git_branch}-${arch}"
   docker.withRegistry('https://registry.gitlab.com/',
'gitlab-docker-registry') {
 def docker_image = docker.build(docker_tag, '.')
 docker_image.push()
   }
}
parallel (
  'arm': {
node('arm') {
  build()
}
  },
  'x86_64': {
node('linux') {
  build()
}
  }
)
```

RE: strange job folders on Jenkins server

2016-08-04 Thread Ginga, Dick
Thanks Baptiste, they are not actually empty but contain just changelog and
build log files.

I will be deleting them.

Much Thanks  to all….

Yes. This changed in 1.597. See the changelog.

More details in
https://wiki.jenkins-ci.org/display/JENKINS/JENKINS-24380+Migration

So those timestamped dirs might have been "forgotten" after the migration.
Maybe something went wrong in the middle or something.

If they're empty, just wipe them out IMO.

Cheers

RE: Re-2: strange job folders on Jenkins server

2016-08-04 Thread Ginga, Dick
Thanks Joe, we did upgrade to 1.625 sometime last year I think. These folder
all seem to have dates around the end of July to first of Aug 2015.

I do have discard old builds setup on all our builds and it works but it does
not discard these.

They are clearly old builds for those jobs from the log files in them.

After an jenkins Upgrade to version 1.6XXX I've noticed, that those folders,
related to default build number/name has been changed in format. Eventually
they have had the mentioned format before upgrade, pls. check the jenkins
release notes.

But anyway - would you mind to set up functionallity to simply drop/discard
old builds? jenkins wouldn't complain about it;.) Did you set up jenkins by
your own or did you get e.g. VBox Img. - maybe those folders have had been
there before?

why do you want to turn it off? It is an important hint to check wether

If you are running an LTS version, then it should show up much less

Re-2: strange job folders on Jenkins server

After an jenkins Upgrade to version 1.6XXX I've noticed, that those folders,
related to default build number/name has been changed in format. Eventually
they have had the mentioned format before upgrade, pls. check the jenkins
release notes.

But anyway - would you mind to set up functionallity to simply drop/discard
old builds? jenkins wouldn't complain about it;.)
Did you set up jenkins by your own or did you get e.g. VBox Img. - maybe those
folders have had been there before?

Did you check if the mails are ending up in the 'spam' folder?

Re: Multibranch Pipeline: How to parameterize?

2016-08-04 Thread Sverre Moe
I am using Pipeline Global Library along with Jenkinsfile. All build logic
is in a centralized build script within Jenkins workflowLibs.git

Setting properties to be used on branches:
properties([[$class: 'ParametersDefinitionProperty', parameterDefinitions:
[[$class: 'BooleanParameterDefinition', defaultValue: false, description:
'Parameter
Text', name: 'MY_PARAM')
The properties set during execution of a build will be available next time
a build is started.

I used the following piece of code to check for this property in my build
script
def myBoolParam = false
if (getBinding().hasVariable("MY_PARAM")) {
myBoolParam = Boolean.parseBoolean(MY_PARAM)
}

 Each branch pipeline has their own config.xml. A standard pipeline job
 does have support for parameterization. I think I read somewhere in
 Jenkins
 JIRA that such properties should be defined in the Jenkinsfile and set for
 the branch pipeline project on the first run. I am a bit unsure how to set
 them. Cannot find a single example of this.

 https://issues.jenkins-ci.org/browse/JENKINS-30519

 I know how to set them programatically in the Script console for
 "regular" projects.
 StringBuilder builder = new StringBuilder()
 builder.append("PROP1=true")
 builder.append("\n")
 builder.append("PROP2=true")
 final def propertiesContent = builder.toString()

 def info = new EnvInjectJobPropertyInfo(null, propertiesContent,
 null, null, null, false)
 def property = new EnvInjectJobProperty()
 property.setOn(true)
 property.setKeepJenkinsSystemVariables(true)
 property.setKeepBuildVariables(true)
 property.setInfo(info)

 project.addProperty(property)
 project.save()

Can't receive build email notification from Jenkins

2016-08-04 Thread Martin
Hello, my console output shows that my project is built successful and
email was sent out too, but the recipients can't receive the emails. The
final output is:

channel stopped
Email was triggered for: Always
Sending email for trigger: Always
Sending email to: ling...@gmail.com
Finished: SUCCESS

However, I can't see the email in ling...@gmail.com. Also, the Test Email also
works fine in Jenkins configuration.

What might be the problem? Thank you.
