[kwin] [Bug 492176] New: Clamshell mode does not wake up monitor
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=492176 Bug ID: 492176 Summary: Clamshell mode does not wake up monitor Classification: Plasma Product: kwin Version: master Platform: Fedora RPMs OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: general Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org Reporter: anditosan1...@gmail.com Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY In my laptop when I use clamshell mode with external usb mouse, keyboard and screen my system goes to sleep, when I wake it up by opening the laptop, the apple display will wake up and turn on the external screen. If I, however, set my laptop to not sleep and only leave the turn screen off setting, when I wake up the computer again, my external monitor will not wake up like it did when the laptop came out of sleep. Is there a way to find out if there is some command or parameter that sleep mode sends and we could implement that for the turn screen on part? STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Place laptop in sleep mode after X amount of time 2. Keep laptop in clamshell mode 3. Wake up laptop from sleep by opening laptop 4. External monitor will wake up as well (Apple Display in this case) Second workflow 1. Place laptop in "Do nothing" mode after X amount of time 2. Keep laptop in clamshell mode 3. Do nothing 2. Sleep 3. Shutdown I would like to suggest adding the "Turn off screen" This is because sometimes you don't want your computer to sleep as it is slower to wake up. Not only that, as noted in other areas, clamshell use of a laptop does not allow for external usb mouse or keyboard to wake up the laptops from sleep. Users have to physically pick up the laptop and open it to wake up the machine. By adding this additional option, the laptop never sleeps but doesn't keep a screen on. When the user clicks the widget sidebar to close it, this closes edit mode. This leads to users who are not done in edit mode to have to constantly reopen edit mode to do more tasks. Given that the edit mode concentrates a few interactions into one main edit interaction, the user should not exit edit mode involuntarily. https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=487595 Andres Betts changed: What|Removed |Added CC||anditosan1...@gmail.com --- Comment #1 from Andres Betts --- I think something we have to remember is what type of graphic we are speaking of. Sometimes they are referring to their logo graphic which is not the same as their icon graphic. Some companies don't provide an icon graphic. In which case, you have to make something similar that would fit the bill. However, a few companies provide their own icon graphic for various sizes, in which case, we should simply copy/paste into the icon collection for our system. Sometimes these icons contain a TM graphic as well. For reference, I did just that on the 24px collection for icons belonging to other companies. Just copy paste, no modifications. The 22px collection had the same, but I can't ascertain if they came from a company source or from a modified icon source. Unsure. Still, the icons belonging to companies should probably not be re-licensed. I hope that's clear LOGO is not the same as ICON. Those are two different graphics. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[Breeze] [Bug 479920] network-wired should have less monitor, more wire
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=479920 --- Comment #26 from Andres Betts --- - In network-wired-unavailable, was it intentional to use a black X instead of a red X? Usually our X badges are red. Yes, because even in the current 22px it's not consistent. I can make it red if there is more red than black in the icon set. Let me know. - network-wired, network-wired-active, and network-wired-available look the same (or am I just not seeing any differences?) so the latter two could just be symlinks to network-wired, right? Yes because it seemed to me that there is no need to make one different visually than the other. Maybe there is a case for that, let me know. - Could you also include 22px versions? That's the size that these will be displayed at most commonly in the panel, so it's important to have that size. 22px versions are contained in this attachment: wired network variant icons -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[plasmashell] [Bug 470610] Not enough contrast between breeze and overview effect background
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=470610 --- Comment #2 from Andres Betts --- I don't think your logic is applicable in this case. You're assuming that people only focus on the content inside a window to determine their contents and also assume that people with blurry vision would not use our system. The blurry test was only to illustrate at a lower resolution how little difference there is between the window background and overview background. The background has been the same for me for a while even across multiple installs, I am not really sure the overview background is changing for me unless Neon unstable has a bug. We also have to think of defaults in this case. I get these results with the default combination of wallpaper, breeze style and overview enabled. I only added links to images because bugzilla didn't seem to allow more than one image. I could be wrong. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

I think this can be tough for some users to have to click so many times to find something specific. Ideally, we want to provide users with a one-stop-shop where they can do all things related to one specific activity. In this case, the activity of editing settings is split into 3 different modules. Understanding that our KCMs are all modular, I would love it if we could combine Dolphin settings with the Shortcuts settings, and the Language settings into one UI. That way we make it a one-stop-shop. If the argument is that these other KCMs come from System Settings and are general in their behavior, we should generally link those KCMs to System Settings instead. That way users understand the context of their changes. Otherwise, users can be confused to realize they are changing general settings vs Dolphin-specific settings. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

Starting with > Plasma for now. I am so sorry Nate, I don't get updates about my own bugs for some reason. It's been like this for a long long time. I think I should have mentioned that we are talking about the desktop behavior when the user has enabled bypass shutdown screens or bypass reboot screens. So it's not the general behavior. Under this behavior, the user is not prompted about shutting down, for example, when they click shut down. It happens immediately. This is pretty cool for people ready to leave the desktop but it is also a bit radical in its behavior. I can confirm that under this behavior the system does "NOT" ask users to save. It shuts down without interruptions. Maybe it sends a TERM signal. This is why I say that even though this behavior is enabled, it should still warn users that they are shutting down or rebooting. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

SDDM themes have their own backgrounds, and > where should the default background be placed among other backgrounds in a > GridView? [plasmashell] [Bug 454720] New: Maximize Panel Should Cancel Floating Panel
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=454720 Bug ID: 454720 Summary: Maximize Panel Should Cancel Floating Panel Product: plasmashell Version: master Platform: Other OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: System Tray Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org Reporter: anditosan1...@gmail.com CC: mate...@gmail.com Target Milestone: 1.0 In the floating panel section under edit mode, the button for floating panel is clicked once for enabling floating panel and a second time to disable floating panel. When the user enters floating panel and clicks Maximize Panel, the panel does nothing. I think we need to think these buttons as opposites of each other. If floating panel undoes maximize panel, then maximize panel should undo floating panel. This would be more congruent with the options we present users with. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[systemsettings] [Bug 454272] New: Show Wallpaper Menu when Selecting SDDM Background
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=454272 Bug ID: 454272 Summary: Show Wallpaper Menu when Selecting SDDM Background Product: systemsettings Version: unspecified Platform: Other OS: Other Status: REPORTED Severity: wishlist Priority: NOR Component: kcm_splashscreen Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org Reporter: anditosan1...@gmail.com Target Milestone: --- It seems there are other similar requests asking for unifying the wallpaper setting experience. However, it seems it is complex and it cannot be done right now. However, it would be great if the SDDM KCM in System Settings gained the ability to select images from the wallpaper list to be placed as the background. Currently, the system allows the user to select custom images but does not show the wallpaper images anywhere. If this menu was brought into the selection, it would be easier for users to set the wallpaper background in SDDM and have the same image in all areas of the system. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[plasmashell] [Bug 454271] New: Show Desktop Should Inform Users About Active State
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=454271 Bug ID: 454271 Summary: Show Desktop Should Inform Users About Active State Product: plasmashell Version: master Platform: Other OS: Other Status: REPORTED Severity: wishlist Priority: NOR Component: Show Desktop/Minimize All Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org Reporter: anditosan1...@gmail.com Target Milestone: 1.0 Currently, when there are no windows or applications open on the desktop, the user can click the show desktop button. However, nothing happens other than show an button active line in the taskbar. This is probably logical but the user needs to be informed of the system's state at all times. It is one of our usability guidelines. By that token, we should try to implement a method, like a darkening effect, or some kind of resistance animation on the desktop that informs the user in clear way that show desktop is active. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[systemsettings] [Bug 450346] Show Key Combos Inline

And some > effects have multiple shortcuts and multiple activation modes. > > It's not a bad idea, but it would be messy to present it in a sane and > consistent way. [plasmashell] [Bug 450226] Implement exit animation when bypassing exit confirmation screen
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=450226 --- Comment #3 from Andres Betts --- (In reply to Nate Graham from comment #1) > If we did that, wouldn't it cover up or obscure any apps that need to show a > "save your changes"-style confirmation dialog when the system asks them to > quit? That might happen. I am not sure how this is implemented technically. However, what I see is that whenever the user goes to the shut down button, they click it and it kills everything immediately. There are currently no prompts asking the user to save. At least, that didn't happen for me. I would imagine that a more tactful way to do this is to allow the user to bypass any shutdown dialogs yet be warned/told that information can be lost or needs to be saved. With this report, I am speaking of a different state. When the bypassing is enabled, the user clicks shutdown and it bypasses the confirmation screen. However, it does this by immediately taking the user out of the system. Everything goes black and your system shuts down. My request is that this part could have an intermediate state where the user knows that the system is shutting down and didn't just go black suddenly. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

For this reason, I think when shutting down or rebooting Plasma, after selecting to bypass confirmation screens, also needs to inform the user of the state of the system. This can be done with a fade out animation and a message in the center that says "shutting down" or "rebooting". That way the user is not "janked" out of the desktop so quickly and they can follow the progression of their actions through informative prompts.
