Hi Spiders,
I received a package in the mail from Switzerland and one of the stamps on
the packager was embroidered in a lace pattern!
I have uploaded a picture of it to Arachne Webshots to the album named

Hello everyone
I hope everyone has a wonderful time on their lace travels - it seems
quite a number of arachnes are 'abroad' or doing so sometime this season.
Send reports! I know you will. Meanwhile, for those of us at-home, I think
it is time for another informal survey. This one is:

This is the information taken from Peasant and erudite arts and
textiles in Spain APECYL 1999, about mac-rame:
The name of mac-rame is arabic in origin and means knot. The knots
are made with hands and it is originated by the Assyrian people.
Macrame had been worked by all Spanish communities
Thanks, Bev - for starting an interesting thread that helps get us out of
our summer doldrums! I confess that I'm doing more quilting than
lacemaking at the moment - a fact that is attributed to my happy part-time
employment in a quilt shop where I can make up shop samples to my heart's
content

What lace(s) are you working on now? Maybe don't list all the ones you
have in progress (unless you want to) - this survey is for the projects
you are doing *right now* - short and sweet?

Bev, what a delightful idea! Thank you for thinking of it! At present I am
cut up into three parts, with nothing left over for real life: Part 1 isn't
lace at all, but a piece of canvaswork embroidery, an adaptation of the
Ardebil Mosque Carpet (the real thing can be seen in London at the VA). I
Thanks Bev, it's interesting to read what people are doing.
Me? I've only got a couple underway at the moment:

Hi,
Has anyone from North America ordered Beryl Maw's lace pack directly (ie
not got someone in the UK to buy it for them)? I am interested to know
how much the postage is (in pounds and pence) so that I can send off my

Thanks in advance,

I need some opinions. A new seller just asked me this question:
I wanted to ask you as a collector, do you prefer large amounts
of yardage or smaller pieces? I was told once by a dealer friend that she
really only sold 2-3yd pcs. of insertion and usable lace.
Comments, please.

Janice, enjoyed viewing the photo of the lace-painted

My current projects include the following:

2. sewing,
3. angel in wire lace,
4. torchon being done in linen,
Not working full time during summers, provides more
time for extra projects.
I'm currently (still) plodding away on a piece of beds designed by Robin

I also have a little tatting on the go - thought I would use it to

I have made tatting for about 35 years.

Well, at least Adelaide (South Australia) is different: last year when my
husband and I arrived for the annual Australian Lace Guild conference, we
strolled into the mall in the centre of Adelaide ... to be greeted by several

Hi everyone
No cows in the city of Victoria - but whales, yes - the sculptured kind
(you can now go whale-watching on land, as well as by boat...). They are
from the same mold, and underneath are your basic black and white orca,
but are otherwise decorated. It is a fund-raising project for

Hi Spiders,
I happen to have downloaded the pictures of the tatted bedspread and would
be happy to share them with anyone who sends me their email.
Helen, since you have already posted, they are on their way to you. I
don't think it is appropriate to post them on the Arachne Webshot page.
A few years ago the city of Toronto had a herd of
300 critters made, but ours weren't cows they were
moose. Much more appropriate that cows and the horns
are useful for hanging up a lot of hats and coats.
Some of them were very creative at least one of
them was decorated in a Mountie outfit.
Same thing in Jerusalem, except that instead of cows or moose, we had lions
decorated by artists. Since they get moved around from time to time, my kid
likes spotting lions in new places.
