Hi All
I actually meant that the vast majority of people would not do
everything just for others, without anything for themselves, unless
they had the funds available to do it. If they were relying on the
income to increase their pension etc, then they would not give it away!

Hi, Jeri -
I take your point about people making things and giving them away for
charity and other good causes. I have done that myself.
But I think what Sue was talking about was making things and selling them
for less than cost. That is no way to run a business, and even if we were
to do it
Gentle Spiders,
I am one of those who make and give away just for the love of doing. I cannot
begin to count the afghans (knitted or crocheted) or the quilts made while
being a full time care-giver to my precious hubby for many years. These items
have been given to nursing home patients as well

I look forward to you both getting started.

I learned to make lace from my mother, but she only learned to make it three
months before I did.
We were both entranced with the idea of bobbin lace from seeing it
demonstrated. Mom had purchased a book and bobbins, but neither one of us
really had the time to sit down and figure things out.

I saw lace being made in Tonder, Denmark ten years ago where I got
married. I had never even heard of doing lace this way and was
absolutely enthralled with it...stared at the store window every
chance I got! LOL!
For Christmas that year my hubby got me my first pillow and bobbins

Just in case you haven't already had a reply from someone else (and in case
anyone else needs the answer):
just replace unsubscribe with subscribe in the instructions . You'll get a
message back from Majordomo telling you what to do next.
I did the unsubscribe/resubscribe recently

Thanks for the link, which I got from several Arachne. I can find the
continental squares but I prefer the plainer International squares with double
heads. I dislike all the turnings on the continental ones when doing sewings,
especially with the silk thread I am using. It catches on
ok, I'm unsubscribed (I think??)... waiting hopefully for the instructions

Avital (our moderator) lives in Israel, and is very good at picking up

for her to be in work, however. I don't know if this is a public holiday
weekend in Israel - but it is definitely the middle of the night!

Hello Norma, and everyone
Osma Gallinger Tod was a weaver, basket maker, student of textiles
extraordinaire. She wrote many articles, books and pamphlets. I did not know
that she investigated bobbin lace, but evidently did, by the article you
have. It would be typical of her to do so ;)
