[lace] books on ebay
Hi, Whilst doing my daily trawl of lace things on ebay I came accross this book Item number: 300144267079. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/STARTING-ZELE-LACE-BOOK-AGNES-STEVENS_W0QQitemZ30014426 7079QQihZ020QQcategoryZ57203QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem It is called 'Starting Zele Lace' and I have to say I have never heard of this lace before. From the picture on the front it looks like needlelace bu just wondered if any of you had heard of it? It is for sale with a starting price of just £1.99 and the seller has 3 other lace books starting at just £2.50! Anne Nicholas Middx. Re: [lace] books on ebay
Yes it's needle lace, from Zele province in Belgium. *Very* clearly written it is a good book to learn techniques from that can then be applied to other needle laces such as Point de Gaze. It is worked in fine cotton thread, but the instructions make this non-threatening. There are several very attractive designs such as some brooches which are used as exercises for the next technique, but it is mostly instruction. Highly recommended. Re: [lace] books on ebay
Hi Anne et al, I have just bought this book on eBay - probably just the one Anne is mentioning!I had never heard of it before but, as I won the Essex Lace Makers bursary to go on a course, and fancied the one at Swn-y-Gwynt in Wales - and they only do needlelace - thought I would take this book away on holiday, and see what I could do!I think I paid just under £4.00 sterling - including postage and packing - so I feel quite pleased. It is needlelace and, although I have only briefly glanced at it as it came very recently, it seems to be a quite adequate book to start one off on needlelace!I had been looking for one of the more well-known needlelace books on eBay, and getting nowhere fast, so was delighted when this one came up.I will be away for a month from the 29th August, so will report on progress - or the lack of it - when I come back. Please bear in mind that I *will* be taking a lace pillow with one of Jenny Hester's UFO designs on it as well though - and who knows what lace will win? [lace] Books for beginners
I came across two books on eBay which, in my opinion, are two of the most valuable books that a beginner can have in her collection! [lace] Second hand lace books
I came across two books on eBay which, in my opinion, are two of the most valuable books that a beginner can have in her collection! So, if you're just getting started and want to have a couple of great books, here's your chance! Dear Spiders I had occasion to visit The Hollies Last week before visiting the 'Seven' exhibition at Dudley and feel you should be aware that they have a bookshelf full of second hand lace books for sale which are duplicated copies of those already held in their library. There were 2 or 3 copies of the Tebbs book mentioned by someone which also had the patterns in the pocket at the back. Do have a look at their list of books for sale, if you are looking for a specific title. Re: [lace] Digital archives - url
Hello Ann and everyone The digital archives pertaining to lace are listed here, with links to each: http://www.cs.arizona.edu/patterns/weaving/topic_lace.html and here http://www.handweaving.net/DAHome.aspx and you can buy CDs of them here, for instance if downloading isn't an option. http://www.handweaving.net/Store.aspx While I'm at it, we have a lace gallery at the handweaving.net site which can certainly use more entries, nice if sourced from an archive doc., here http://www.handweaving.net/GalleryList.aspx On 8/23/07, ann.humphreys [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Can someone explain how to use the digital archives people keeping referring to please, and is there an index somewhere of all the lace literature to be found there. -- Bev in Sooke BC (on beautiful Vancouver Island, west coast of Canada) - To unsubscribe send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] containing the line: unsubscribe lace [EMAIL PROTECTED] For help, write to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

And there are also the Arachne archives at http://www.mail-archive.com/lace%40arachne.com/ No index as such, but there is a search option. This searches throught the text as well as the titles for the key words entered. RE: [lace] Rubber bands - and a raffle
Oh Great and thanks. I will keep my eye on the post!! I just counted them up and there are 36 of them. I'll post half a dozen each to Barbara, Delores, Jane and Angel as soon as things quieten down enough at work to get to the Post Office in my lunch hour. That should be enough to last them until this batch perish, and leaves a dozen here if anyone else needs a couple.. Reading the recent posts about buying books while one has chance reminded me that I have a copy of Bridget Cook's Russian Lacemaking which I bought years ago and have never used. I don't think I ever will use it - I no longer like the pattern I bought it for, and nothing else in it is really my cup of tea - so as I believe it's now out of print I'll offer it as a raffle prize so it can find a home where it will be better appreciated. (My lace bookshelf is in danger of collapsing under the weight of all the projects I do want to do someday...) I'll post it anywhere in the world, the only qualification for entry is that you have to intend to have a go at Russian tape lace. (The technical instructions are fairly clear, and being a tape lace it doesn't use a lot of pairs, so it wouldn't be too daunting for a near beginner to have a try at) Closing date for entries midnight (BST) Sunday 2nd September. [lace] lace artist site
Hi everyone I have permission from this lacemaker to share her site with others. In view of the occasional discussions here about lace and art, lace in art, lace as art (etc.) I think her work is most thought-provoking. She is passionate about her work, and lacemaking, and if I interpret the English translation correctly, she has definite thoughts about the place of lace. We have managed a brief e-mail conversation even though neither of us is fluent in the other's language. Does that say something about the universality of lacemaking?! http://www.mariabissacco.it/ -- Bev in Sooke BC (on beautiful Vancouver Island, west coast of Canada) - To unsubscribe send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] containing the line: unsubscribe lace [EMAIL PROTECTED] For help, write to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
