[LU] takeover actually happening ??????

2012-10-26 Thread David Nattan
Not sure why it has taken so long to do so but the latest statement seems
to say that proof of funds has now been submitted (I thought that was the
first thing people had to do to talk to Bates ?)
Also they say that the rumours / stories about Sharia law are nonsense.

If GFH are the answer then it is better late than never but i do feel that
this should have been done prior to the start of the season or at least
prior to transfer window closing - that way we could have brought in better
players and presumably been in a better league position come December - but
more importantly the new owners could have 'ridden the wave of optimism'
that would have existed then, leading to more season ticket sales and a
better general atmosphere around the place. Now that optimism has drifted
away and fans are fed up to the back teeth with it all. The delay has not
done GFH credibility any good either - they would have been hailed by many
as rescuing us from Bates - now they need to show that they are indeed
better than the devil we know (hard to see how they could be worse than
Bates but who knows)

The proof of it all will be when we enter the transfer market in January -
will we get the players Colin wants or will we see them going to lesser
clubs as has happened continuously under Bates

I read through the statement this morning after David Haigh had tweeted about
it and do you know what I didn't care, not a flicker of emotion about the
takeover.
I have got to the point where after years of neglect by bates, the poor
standard of football we play I am considering what it will take to make me go
back to ER on a regular basis. I don't think the takeover alone is enough for
me, this surprises me as I have been watching Leeds since I was a 5 year old in
'75 and would have walked across broken glass in the past.
I have now started weighing up the financial cost of watching Leeds for me and
the lad with the cost of less frequent long weekends away in Spain for me and
the family and taking in watching Barca. I know which my wife prefers.

I know i will get slated from some quarters but I can't be the only one
thinking like this.

You're not mate. To be honest I mainly go to aways nowadays just for the atmos

If the takeover goes through and we start showing ambition then all of us will

Chris,

Although I am slightly interested about the takeover finally being
completed - and what the consequences might be for the club, I gave up
my season ticket this year and don't miss going at all - home games
had become a chore not a pleasure.

And it's not just Leeds I'm disinterested in either - I'm generally
fed up with football. The premier league, the FA, UEFA, FIFA, the
money, the media circus, so far removed from the game I fell in love
with as a 7 year old watching the 1986 world cup.

Bah. Humbug.

Go to echo all this... I'm totally neutral about this GFH lot, rumours of
funds not being there, the delays, the statement against the Trust etc
in August I would have been excited. Was going to take my son to the first
post Bates game, now I can't be bothered to do that.

Also don't seem to care about care about football in general, didn't turn
Sky Sports back on until Friday for the Sheff Weds game and I only did that
because of Sky's half price offer and only watched Barca Celtic since. I
used to watch JPT games if they were on

I thought it was getting old and finding things like football less important

2012-10-26 Thread Nigel Sykes
I thought it was getting old and finding things like football less
important but if everyone feels like this maybe I'm not

Yeah - I feel pretty much the same. I am SO tired of this take-over
nonsense that I've come to expect nothing at all. And the team - well, I'm
completely nonplussed. In the last year, I have at no stage even considered
going to a game and it'll take something fairly mighty to change my
attitude.

Over the last few years I've found myself watching other sports much more
(RL and American Football particularly, even Baseball!) and I find my levels
of excitement to be much higher these days with those teams than they ever
are with Leeds anymore. I don't think my heart rate even went up when they
scored against Wednesday last week.

One of the main things that strikes me, in comparing the various teams I
follow, is that all the others are always doing everything they can to
improve their chances. Even if they're at the top of the tree (e.g. Leeds
Rhinos), then they don't rest on their laurels. I'm a 25-year supporter of
the Washington Redskins, who in a startling piece of coincidence, last won
anything in 1992 (I also got married in 1992, and the coincidence has not
been lost on me - she's clearly a fecking jinx!). There have been many,
many bad years as a Redskins supporter since then, but no matter what, every
season has brought new hope and a belief that they are at least trying to do
something to make themselves winners again. I'm not saying that Leeds
United don't try to improve, or win games. But the level of ambition in
evidence has dwindled to an all-time low under Bates to such an extent that
you can barely see the dot of light from the bottom of the well we find
ourselves in. How we're as high in the table as we are is a complete
mystery. Please, please, please let the new owners (IF they ever complete
the take-over!) show some ambition and get us all believing that they at
least want us to succeed...

Well I can officially announce that I am not going tomorrow. The football and
the general feel about the place is not good and to be honest I can't stand to
watch Becchio and the likes try to grind out a result. I'm not expecting
Messi just a club that cares about its fans and players who can do the basics.
Looking forward to an afternoon in the pub. Still love Leeds more than anyone
but think it's a waste of time going at the moment.  Hopefully I'll regret when
we thump the Brummy b'stards.

Re: [LU] takeover actually happening ??????

2012-10-26 Thread John Lee
Sadly I'm on Nigel's side of the fence. I could never have imagined not taking
my kids to see Leeds play, but the Bates/Wise scenario, the utter lack of
ambition, even allowing for the near-bankruptcy, and the arrogance that sees
them think they can charge £30 ish to watch sh*te means I may never actually go
again.

Like Nige, I follow the Rhinos more, went to Wemberlee glory-hunting (with the
almost certain fact we'd lose!!!), and feel a part of it, like I once did at
Leeds in all those years I bought a season ticket etc. OK, I'm a grumpy old so
and so, and Ridsdale conveniently co-incided with marriage/kids etc, but the
soul has gone from LUFC. It could be resurrected, but will take some doing.

I suspect the takeover will not be the cash-cow everyone has hoped for - if
they were cash-heavy they wouldn't be so concerned about any potential
skeletons as much as they are? What they need to do is make the fans feel
they're not being screwed - that will be a start!

anything in 1992 (I also got married in 1992, and the coincidence has not
been lost on me - she's clearly a fecking jinx!).

OK, I'm a grumpy old so and so, and Ridsdale conveniently co-incided with
marriage/kids etc, but the soul has gone from LUFC. It could be resurrected,
but will take some doing.

I think this is a football wide issue, not just LUFC. Firstly, we are all older
too and things get put in perspective a bit more, once you have kids, get older
etc. I'm no longer fuming for days if we get beat 4-3 by Newcastle after being
3-1 up (Christ was I in a bad mood that weekend!)Secondly, it's just not as fun
anymore, the money and telly and corporate boxes and all that shite has ruined
the game, it's a disney version of what it used to be. I mean there was a lot
wrong with the old days, with the racism and violence and all that but the
actual game of football is just a watered down version of what it used to be,
you're barely even allowed to make contact anymore, Norman Hunter wouldn't have
been on the pitch for more than 5 mins a game!
Bah humbug, kids these days!

While I agree with what has mostly been written (think I said as much in
pre-season) last week in the dark corner of a shit bar in Lansing, MI watching
on a laptop in the middle of the afternoon I still screamed Yes! when we
scored and responded to the yank who asked what I was watching I said Leeds of
course!

But then the yob fucker ran on the pitch and spoiled it all.

[LU] News of an old boy

2012-10-26 Thread Ralph Sheppard
Ex-Leeds and Millwall man playing for a pittance
By Tim Street, from www.hounslowchronicle.co.uk

Tresor Kandol is so desperate to be playing football again he is only
demanding a pittance from Hampton Richmond Borough. The former Leeds
United, Millwall and Barnet striker signed for the club last Friday after
being put in touch with Beavers boss Mark Harper by defender Malvin Kamara.
And Harper allayed any fears that Hampton, who have twice have to slash
their budget mid-season in recent years, are splashing the cash. He said:
Tresor now has a career outside the game so has not asked for a lot of
cash, he just wants to be playing again. He wants to keep it ticking over
and has done me a favour, and hopefully we can do him one too. We're not in
the position to spend big money anyway. Someone was saying on the fans'
forum we should be giving younger players a chance instead, but they can
learn a lot from Tresor, like his movement on the pitch and how he conducts
himself off it. Tresor is just training with us at the moment as we have to
wait 30 days for international clearance, but as he was playing in Spain
last season and not this one we're hoping it can be fast-tracked.

Depending on what iRiver, you might eke a bit more life out of it if you
put RockBox on it. http://www.rockbox.org/

then converted them to .WMA files, and still the same result.

Methinks it might be time to upgrade my hardware. What are the List's best
recommendations for a reliable, simple to use, 20GB+ player that doesn't cost
the earth, and doesn't crash every 5 minutes. I don't want it to do anything
else but play music; I don't need it to store photos, be a phone, access the
web, tell me if my brother has reached the airport (ok I haven't got a
brother), give me the latest recipe for duchess potatoes, etc, etc. I don't
care if it's the size of a house brick, as long as it works.
From looking at reviews on Amazon, it seems all the players have their
 faults.

No mugs buying sky = football with a bit of soul and integrity.

Sky subscribers are 100% responsible for the shite state of affairs. I'm sick

they not had Sky.

Everyone knew back in the 90s where it was leading, but some people just

Erm I would be one of your average bankers - Average being the grunts
who do all the work for one of the major banks, gets paid F all and takes
all the shit from customer on the phone, and snide remarks such as this one
(though I doubt it was aimed at the likes of me) - the name Banker fits for
us all, but the public perception fits only a tiny tiny (less than 0.1%)
minority of the people in the Uk classed as bank employees

Otherwise, the rest of the post is spot on
