Female participants wanted for research project

If you are a woman over 18 years old you are invited to take part in a
La Trobe University study into the women's self-conceptions. The study
is being conducted by Ms Maree Daly, Dr Helen Lindner and Dr Michael
Halloran of the School of Psychological Science.

The purpose of this study is to identify the terms most frequently used
by women to describe themselves. The information provided by
participants will be used to develop a more comprehensive questionnaire,
designed to measure the characteristics of the self-concept.

If you volunteer to participate, you will be asked to list up the 15
self-descriptive terms or phrases and to judge the extent to which you
view each term/phrase as positive or negative. You will also be
requested to provide some demographic information, including your age,
and the ages of any children you have. Your participation in this study
would be completely anonymous - no identifying information will be
requested.

If you'd like to participate in this study, just click the link below -
you can complete the form online.

LL:INFO: VWT Unpaid Labour Questionnaire

2002-09-04 Thread Kate Kearns

VICTORIAN WOMEN’S TRUST/ UNIVERSITY OF QUEENSLAND

Unpaid Labour Questionnaire

The Victorian Women’s Trust and the School of Social Sciences at the
University of Queensland is gathering information from women in Victoria
as part of a research project to evaluate women’s unpaid labour and its
value to the Australian market economy.

The project is designed to assist women to identify and recognise the
enormous value of their unpaid labour, and to provide data that will
drive a public policy reform process that properly values women’s vital
contribution to Australia’s society and economy.

You can assist in this process by providing us with your valuable
insight and experience. Your contribution will help to fuel future
advocacy and public policy reform. Please feel free, also, to forward
this email on to friends and colleagues.

There are two parts to the research process, a questionnaire and focus
group discussions.

Questionnaire:

The questionnaire is being e-mailed to the Trust’s online database. Your
participation, by way of completing and returning this document, would
be greatly appreciated.

Focus Groups:

We invite you to participate in small group discussions so that we may
learn more about your experiences of unpaid labour. These focus groups
will take 2 hours and will be facilitated by Dr Helen Johnson of the
University of Queensland during the first week of October 2002.

Focus groups are planned for the Mornington Peninsula on Monday 30
September, in Wodonga on Wednesday 2 October and in the Central
Highlands on Thursday 3 October. If you are interested in participating
in one of these forums, please contact Trish Pinto at the Women’s Trust
on (03) 9642 0247 or [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Please indicate your preference for a morning or afternoon session.

Many thanks.

Present But Not Counted: Rural and Urban Women's Unpaid Labour - A Pilot
Project

For far too long, the everyday community building work done by women has
been invisible and undervalued. We know anecdotally, and instinctually, how
much it contributes to our national economy. We know from people such as
Marilyn Waring and Duncan Ironmonger the extent of this work and its dollar
value. But good systematic qualitative research - exploring the issues from
women's realities - is still needed.

By commencing a study of rural and metropolitan women's labour, this pilot
project supported by the Victorian Women's Trust will create new practical
and theoretical frameworks to measure how women's contribution to the
'private' unpaid economy sustains the 'public' market economy.

Dr Helen Johnson from the University of Queensland is looking for 15 women
aged over 18 to attend a discussion at the Women's Business Matrix in
Brunswick Street, Fitzroy on Tuesday 16 July from 10am to 12 noon. Morning
tea will be served and childcare facilities are available.

A discussion will also take place at the Bendigo Tafe College from 12 noon
to 2pm on Thursday 18 July. A light lunch will be served and childcare
facilities are available.

Please contact Helen on (07) 336 51070 or at [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Alternatively, contact Trish Pinto at the Victorian Women's Trust on (03)
9642 0422 or at [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Tehmeena Faryal, RAWA - Lecture Monday 15th April

The Women's Rights Action Network of Australia and the Victorian Women's
Trust invite you to hear Tehmeena Faryal of the Revolutionary
Association of the Women of Afghanistan next Monday at the Equal
Opportunity Commission, Melbourne.

Tahmeena was 10 years old when the Soviet invasion forced her family
from Afghanistan to a Pakistani refugee camp. Her mother ws an early
member and her father a supporter of RAWA. Educated in RAWA schools in
Pakistan, Faryal became committed to working fro human rights and
women's rights.

Tahmeena has since become a spokeswoman for RAWA and recently toured the
United States, raising money for RAWA and raising awareness about the
plight of Afghan women and families.

She has a reputation as a captiviating speaker and has appeared on Good
Morning America, and on CNN. She testified to the Suncommittee of the US
House on International Operations and Human Rights, and has given
numerous speeches to groups of academics, women's groups and other human
rights organisations.

RAWA has been working to support Afghan women since 1977 (when the
Soviet Union first began their advances on the country) and continues
their fight to secure social, political and human rights. This has led
to engagement on a number of fronts including education, health and
social reform. Because so many Afghan women have left the country and
languish in refugee camps much of their woerk is undertaken in these
environments but they also continue to work in Afghanistan.

Date: April 15
Time: 5pm
Venue: Equal Opportunity Commission, Level 3, 380 Lonsdale Street, Melbourne
RSVP Susan Brennan on [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Bookings:Essential. Entry: Free. Donations to RAWA are encouraged
