LL:AA: suwa show

2001-06-04 Thread iain mcintyre

RADIO 3CR NEEDS YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT DURING RADIOTHON!

PLEASE HELP THE SUWA SHOW RAISE $600 BY CALLING 9419 8377 DURING THE SHOW
ON FRIDAY JUNE 15.

Yes it's that time of the year again. 3CR is hoping to raise at least $125
000 during this years radiothon and the SUWA (Squatters and Unwaged
Airwaves) show has been set a target of raising $600 towards that total.
Any and all donations are welcome and will go towards keeping Melbourne's
only grassroots community radio station on the air. Donations over $2 are
also tax deductible and there are radiothon prizes to be won including a
couple of spiffy bikes, CD packs and gift vouchers.

After 16 or 17 years of broadcasting the SUWA show continues to present
information of relevance to the unwaged, working poor and squatters as well
as providing news about trouble-making in general. As part of our focus on
direct action we plug local demonstrations and events and host regular
interviews with local and overseas activists, squatters, cooperatives and
grass roots organisations. Somewhere in between all of this we manage to
squeeze in a few choice tunes as well.

This last year has been a good one for SUWA. We have recently moved from
the Friday 11am slot and now broadcast every Friday afternoon between 5-30
and 6-30pm. The collective presenting the show has also expanded to include
six regular hosts (Phil, Sam, Peter, Iain, Margaret and Michael) as well as
a number of part time presenters. In the coming weeks we hope to start
regularly exchanging interviews and segments with a similar program in
Sydney called Autopia.

Please help SUWA and 3CR keep afloat by helping us reach our $600 target
during radiothon. To make a pledge ring in during the show on Friday June
15 or email us at [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Thanks,
The SUWA Collective.

In case you've forgottenÂ…
During the last twelve months of programming SUWA has done the following-

LL:DDV: Timor Benefit

2000-10-11 Thread iain mcintyre

Just a reminder that the East Timor Community Computer Project will be
having a benefit at The Empress Hotel (Corner Scotchmer and Nicholson
Streets, North Fitzroy)on Thursday October 19th. Doors open at 9pm, entry is
around $5 and bands playing are Thee Stag Knights, Curse Ov Dialect,

The ETCCP currently has two members over in Dili where they are making
contact with activist and community groups to supply computers and training.
The area in which they are living is still fairly devastated as most
reconstruction efforts by the UN are going into rebuilding the commercial
districts whilst living ordinary residents without decent housing. For this
reason the ETCCP is seeking donations of building and electrical materials
and children's clothes and books as well as computers, lap tops, monitors,
etc. We have a container going over to East Timor fairly soon so if you have
any of these items please contact 9388 1912 or 0409 544 088. You can also

LL:PR: SUWA show- 3CR Radiothon

2000-06-13 Thread iain mcintyre

Hi there,
Yes this week is the 3CR radiothon and so the SUWA show is asking people to
call up and donate to the station to help keep us on the air.

SUWA (Squatters and Unwaged Workers Airwaves) is on every Friday between
11am and noon. We have various prizes to give away on the show including
prize packs made up of videos, CDs and books. This Friday we will also have
interviews from a recent anti-globalisation demo in Perth.

For those who haven't listened in a while SUWA has in the last year
broadcast troublemaking news from australia and around the world and
promoted most of the demonstrations, film nights and other events that have
taken place amongst Melbourne's radical community.

Whilst the show tries to focus on squatting and unwaged issues we also
cover other areas of interest including workplace, feminist,
environmentalist, queer and other issues. We tend to stick away from theorey
instead focussing on and talking with people about how they are fighting
back.

In recent months we have amongst other things done the following-
-Hosted a May Day special (on May 1st)with a live interview with people at
the Melbourne demo and news from around the world.
-Fielded calls before and after the show from people interested in squatting
or already doing so and seeking advice.
-Played interviews with anarchists involved in the a-16 demonstrations in
the U.S.
-Interviewed squatters from Sydney.
-Attended unemployed rallies and interviewed those present.
-Had a live cross from the Stolen Generations demonstration.
-Helped find some squatters a new home by interviewing them about an
upcoming eviction and asking people to call in empties.
-Had on the show radicals and anarchists from England, Canada and Holland.
-Interviewed activists from the Melbourne Uni coop and Melbourne Uni Student
Housing squats.
-Interviewed the guy who pied Wilson Tuckey.
-Played commentaries from Mumia Abu Jamal and a radio documentary about his
situation and U.S. demonstrations that have occurred in support of him
-Played interviews with squatters from the Netherlands.
-Interviewed green activists about water catchment, forest and other issues.
-Attended Fairwear rallies and interviewed those present.
-And loads more...

Well hope I've convinced you all that the SUWA is worth supporting and hope
to hear from you this Friday. If you need to get in touch before hand just
email me at this address.

Ta,
Iain.

LL:DDV: solidarity and unity- the melbourne debut.

2000-04-13 Thread iain mcintyre

Industrial Workers Of The World (Melbourne Branch) and the SUWA show
present...

The Melbourne Debut of
Solidarity and Unity.
A film about the 1998 MUA dispute.

May Day Screening.
7pm Monday May 1st.
New International Bookshop.
(Side entrance at Trades Hall, Corner of Lygon Street and Victoria Parade).

Solidarity and Unity is a lively and exciting film documenting the Brisbane
experience of 1998's "War on the Waterfront" during which Queensland
picketers had to contend with mass arrests and heavy police repression. The
1999 film, collectively made by a.g. Flicks Productions, follows the
dispute from beginning to end and features rare footage of day to day
picketing, massive marches and union meetings. Since the Brisbane
experience was quite different to our own this film makes for fascinating
viewing.

Squatters and Unwaged Airwaves (SUWA) Show- Friday Mornings 11am to Noon,
3CR, 855am.
