I have a Shopsmith bandsaw with the original blocks. They get the job done, but the bearings on my big bandsaw do seem to work better on the wide blades. Bearings are not so good for very narrow blades like 3/16" and under. I've never tried this, but a rubber sleeve over each bearing (think

Another way would be to put a boat winch on the back bottom rails, put a pulley on the very top and then strap the the motor/headstock.  The cable winch could lift as well as lower.  Truthfully, I like the jack.  Use a socket and drill to lift and lower.  It's light enough to pull it out of
