Hi everyone,
I saved some custom column layouts for Index View the other day, and they
appeared to stay for a few sessions, but today when I opened up they were
gone.
I then recreated and re-saved them, but then had to go out.
When I next opened up, they are gone again!
Any ideas please?
Thanks

ok, that file is there tonight, and I have three saved Index View layouts -
the test will be to see if it is still there tomorrow after I reboot the

The programmers have not given us a firm release date for Version 8 but they

I have heard that the programmer is working on it but I don't know when it
will be available. Part of that is up to the church - he has to go
through the certification process and sometimes they require changes to
what has been done.

I don't understand what your complaint is? Did you send this to the wrong

You must have a huge file. Unplugging the external drive is a good
idea. Thanks for your perspective. Cathy

There was an older post with this thread saying that legacy was using the same

Helle was responding to the post by Brian Lightfoot and I for one
endorse her plea.

Jenny,
I considered the source of the post you are referring to and ignored it -

She is clearly upset with the comment referring to the programmers of Legacy 8
being the same as the programmers of the Obamacare site. A comment that had
nothing to do with politics and everything to do with hideously awful

I would hope that the new version would:
1. Be faster.
2. Have a smaller footprint.
3. Not use proprietary database code.
4. Work in Linux also.
I don't trust Legacy to achieve any of my hopes.
Legacy will probably be bigger,
have more baggage,
and therefore run slower.

What's the easier way to share a Legacy file, data only, by gedcom or on a
CD? Or is there another way, as an attachment? Should the recipient
download the standard version of Legacy first? I tried to read the
instructions (which emphasize multimedia) but am confused. Thanks. Dee

Hi Dee,
That depends entirely on the recipient, and what they've got at hand,
and how much you want to share with them.
If they are readily online and are using Legacy, and you want to share
the whole contents of your Legacy file*, put you can put your .fdb file
(or a backup) into a Dropbox

Unlikely. As more features get added (both those requested and those not) the
program gets larger and necessarily takes longer to do things. You want faster?
