Valerie, Gedcoms are imported, not opened. Go to File > Import File > Gedcom. Note there are quite a number of options to choose from - use defaults if you don't understand them - and ALWAYS import into a new Legacy file. If you want the data in a current Legacy file, clean it up first in its o
