I use an "Obituary" event and have it set to be excluded from Potential
Problems. Then it doesn't matter what dates they have.

What "Event" are you using? If you say the Clipping is an Obituary then
that event definition is automatically marked to be excluded from the
potential problems and the event date will not be reported.
My practice is to only use Newspaper articles as sources for the events
they report. The

after death'.

If it's a death notice I add it as an obituary.
