I think the finding dups needs some improving. Here is a possible match

David Johnson born 1962
David Johnson married 1815
I would think that the program should be able to see that this can't be a
match.

That is what is displayed when I run a find dups.
On the left side it shows David Johnson with a birth date of 1962, on the right

Needless to say I marked them as not duplicates but that should have been

Michele,
I tend to agree with you. I came to the conclusion, rightly or wrongly, that
Legacy does not compare vital dates, so I no longer use it, preferring

Michele,
This could be the preverbal double edged sword. If the program eliminates this
as a dup and one of the dates is in error, then you would not see the error. I
think I would rather choose to call it a dup instead of having the computer
determine that it isn't.

Thanks everyone!
My main concern was with identifying images and I do agree that adding

Bob,
There are several glitches that may popup in the family file from time to
time. They can often be fixed by doing a Check and Repair of the family
file. First, backup your family file, or if it won't backup, then make a
copy of it..
Next, please click on File on the menu bar and select File
Hi, I was about to add a UK Census to the sources, when I noticed the the
family is split between 2 pages. Fist page starts with the head and a couple of
children, and the secon page has the rest of the family. Do I create 2 separate
sorces for this? Cheers! Terry Laraman

Terry,
I don’t, I use the census references for the page with the Head on it and
attach both page images to the multimedia files.

I save both images and attach them to the one source. Then I put both

Surely Legacy is finding possible duplicates. It is up to you to
determine whether or not these are the same people. If one date was in
error (have you never written 1856 instead of 1956?) then it would be
good to get this shown.
If they aren't the same person then mark them as such and they

The 1871 census shows her as a widow with several children, including a

The 1881 census shows her being remarried with two

But from what you say Legacy isn't showing them correctly? It is merely
confirming what you know, or rather don't, that the father is unknown.

Tony,
I should have mentioned, you could, of course, buy the birth certificates to
see if a father is named on them. Also you may find references to the father
in parish records (birth/baptism), and in court records if an application
for maintenance was made.

Maybe all 3 were fathered by different men. It can happen. In the
meantime, you can merge the 3 unknowns into 1 unknown using the Merge
function.

This has been an ongoing problem. A few versions ago it was only if I loaded
