Re: [LegacyUG] Error 3021-Dennis Murphy

2018-03-07 Thread Cathy Pinner

Dennis,

I told you what the program glitch was when I told you how to fix it :)

It's caused by the List Cleanup routine not recognising that a location
is being used when it is only used by a Story. This is a known, recorded
issue waiting for a fix.

I'm trying to keep this thread going as per instructions and hope I'm
doing it correctly.

Anyway, whoever sent me the fact that the first number in the
parentheses refers to the location (RIN) of the problem, I thank you
as it has allowed me to fix the export problem. Despite all the Check
& Repair runs, it seems that some of my story links have been lost
somehow. After fixing the initial problem and attempting another
export to a Legacy file, the dreaded Error 3021 popped up again with
different locations (three additional times to be exact). When I
searched for the story associated with the individual and clicked on
it, again an error message. However a double click restored the link
and now those issues seem to be fixed. I was thus able to export a
smaller Legacy file from my master database without further errors.

Not sure if this incident is attributable to my system (new Dell - Win
10) or a glitch in the software. Sent the issue to support but no
reply as yet.

Hope this helps others if they have same problem.

Dennis,

Try a major clean up of your locations list. Remove all "USA" from
names. Then add it back. Then use the option to merge all of same
places. Go into the list, sort by City, County, State, Country. Do a
manual edit and merge of matching locations. Use the option to delete
all unused locations. Do all the cleanup and merging of locations
possible.

Repeat: Remove all "USA" from names. Then add it back.

Ian,
I've answered on the other thread. The crucial error is the Location
not found error.

I've given up on expecting people on this list to use proper list
etiquette and start a new email for a new topic. It's not a lot of
point just changing the subject line. The emails are still threaded
with the original.

However some email providers seem to break the thread even with normal
responses .
Note this new one has already been highjacked by Leo talking about
something else.

Dennis – I’ve re-titled your last post so that others can use the
subject – perhaps to give you some help on your problem.

(those interested in Peter Astle’s quite different problem may be a
little confused)

I wonder if your problems are due to the size of your database,
including images etc?

Perhaps Cathy Pinner can recall if other users of Legacy have had as
much data as you, without having this error?

Error 3021

This is not the first fight with this Error Number but it's the first
one on which all the Help menu suggestions fail to solve. The final
resort and ultimate "import to Gedcom" has not and likely, will not,
be attempted due to it's source alterations.

I have run the Check & Repair multiple times, even twice in one
complete Maintenance session. I have rebooted computer, tried again.
Not sure if reinstalling the Legacy program will work but that may be
next.

The error message reads" Location 19152 not found (1009, 81) Error
3021" It pops up every time I try to export a portion of my large
database to smaller Legacy family files. Running File Maintenance on
the master or larger database produces no errors; it only happens on
the attempted extraction of portions of the larger file - at least
that's when I notice it always.

My questions:

Does "Location 19152" refer to a specific geographical location?

How or where can it be found?

Do the numbers in parentheses refer to individual ID numbers where the
location is missing?

I have the latest Legacy build but hope for a new update soon to see
if that will fix the problem. There seems to be a lot of glitches
still floating around in Version 9 as these error messages pop up
quite often. Usually they can be fixed by following the suggestions
but these LOCATION ones seem to be a bear on the loose. Please help: I
am open to any and all suggestions

Location not found errors are almost always to do with a story location

that has been purged with the use of List Cleanup as I've already

explained. The RIN of the person with the story that has lost it's

That's what the mailing list is all about - users helping users with

I'm not sure what you were expecting?

This is not the first fight with this Error Number but it's the first
one on which all the Help menu suggestions fail to solve. The final
resort and ultimate "import to Gedcom" has not and likely, will not,

I have run the Check & Repair multiple times, even twice in one complete
Maintenance session. I have rebooted computer, tried again. Not sure if
reinstalling the Legacy program will work but that may be next.

The error message reads" Location 19152 not found (1009, 81) Error 3021" It
pops up every time I try to export a portion of my large database to smaller
Legacy family files. Running File Maintenance on the master or larger database
produces no errors; it only happens on the attempted extraction of portions of
the larger file - at least that's when I notice it always.

My questions:
Does "Location 19152" refer to a specific geographical location?
How or where can it be found?
Do the numbers in parentheses refer to individual ID numbers where the location
is missing?

I have the latest Legacy build but hope for a new update soon to see if that
will fix the problem. There seems to be a lot of glitches still floating around
in Version 9 as these error messages pop up quite often. Usually they can be
fixed by following the suggestions but these LOCATION ones seem to be a bear on
the loose. Please help: I am open to any and all suggestions

Peter,

I've been doing some testing on this and you appear to be right.

I can't see it entered as a bug so I've entered it (I'm a beta tester) and
noted you as the reporter.

They're not options I've used for a long time. I don't make Gedcoms often and
lately just for DNA purposes so everyone except me in it is deceased and I've
mostly just edited out my details.

This is my first message to the user group - so apologies if this query has
been aired before.

In my database I have a number of females who were living in the mid-late
1800's, and their living status is set to NO.

In the process of exporting the family file via a Gedcom to view on a website,
I used the privacy options within Legacy to suppress the details of living
individuals as follows:-

/Suppress details for deceased spouses of living individuals, change name to
deceased./
/
/
/and/
/
/
/Suppress details for deceased children of living individuals, change name to
deceased./

After uploading the Gedcom to the website I reviewed the family file details
that were displayed and I was surprised to see the following pattern.

In most cases, the names and other details of females who were born in the
1800s and whose living status is NO would be displayed as normal.

However, if the female had a child, but the relevant father details had not
been entered, the mother appears as "Deceased" and her actual name and other
details are suppressed.

The name and details of her /"illegitimate"/ child are not suppressed however
and appear in full.

It looks rather odd to have an individual's details suppressed and their name
replaced by "deceased" when they died well before 1900. It appears that Legacy
has made this decision for me - as the mothers concerned are not the spouses of
a living individual as under the suppressing option I selected above.

I can understand the need to protect the privacy of people where apparent and
actual illegitimacy is concerned, but if that is the intention/design of
Legacy, should the child's name and details be suppressed too?

I realise as a relatively new user of Legacy I may have misunderstood, or
overlooked a setting option or a work around for this, so I'd be grateful for
views/advice.

I was considering entering some details for the "unknown" fathers, perhaps that
would solve the issue, but I don't think entering people as name "unknown" is
good practice - is it??

Thanks

Peter

Beth,

Whilst it is true that on first sight the Jet Engine error page may not appear
to apply to you, it probably does. Wendy has already suggested that you run
FileMaintenanceCheck/Repair, and this is essential. You also need to run it
at least twice, until it no longer gives a message saying that corrections have
been made.

Re: [LegacyUG] Error 3021 and 'Find' problem and Problem #3

2011-08-26 Thread Beth

I ran FileMaintenanceCheck/Repair

The maintenance recommend I run Compact Family File, which I did.
and made corrections on the 4 errors it found. All concerned with the Given
Name being in Caps, came in on a short gedcom.

Ran everything 3 times with no errors listed.

All 3 problems are gone so far !

Feel pretty good for so few errors for a file with 13757 names.

One page had the 'default' button and I liked that feature so clicked on it.
All night I have been resetting all my custom choices and my colors on family
page, etc..

So far so good thank you everyone for your help.

I think I get the gist of what you're saying. Basically the Legacy window
occupies the whole screen. If so, and you want it smaller, check the icons in
the top right hand corner of the window and screen. The middle one of the 3
indicates why the window is so big.

If it has a single rectangular frame then the window size can be adjusted by
dragging the edges of the frame towards the centre. Alternatively, you can use
the keyboard in conjunction with the icon in the top left hand corner. One of
the commands under that icon is one for sizing the window. You should probably
consult the Windows Help for how to use the keyboard to resize a window.

If the middle icon at the top right has a double frame, one behind the other,
then the window has been maximised and must be restored to its default size by
clicking on the icon. The icon will change to the single frame and the window
can now be sized as above.

Having set your window to a size that suits you, simply close Legacy and
restart. The window should now open at whatever the last size was.

2011-08-25 Thread Beth

Thanks Mike you about gave me a heart attack... I clicked on the
icon with the double frames (I know that icon just makes the screen larger) and
the whole page disappeared and left the icons at the top and exterior frame
only. I do work with an external hard drive but my first thought was
panic my 56 years of genealogy was gone! Will start over and try
again.

I think I get the gist of what you're saying. Basically the Legacy window
ccupies the whole screen. If so, and you want it smaller, check the icons in
he top right hand corner of the window and screen. The middle one of the 3
ndicates why the window is so big.
If it has a single rectangular frame then the window size can be adjusted by
ragging the edges of the frame towards the centre. Alternatively, you can use
he keyboard in conjunction with the icon in the top left hand corner. One of
he commands under that icon is one for sizing the window. You should probably
onsult the Windows Help for how to use the keyboard to resize a window.
If the middle icon at the top right has a double frame, one behind the other,
hen the window has been maximised and must be restored to its default size by
licking on the icon. The icon will change to the single frame and the window
an now be sized as above.
Having set your window to a size that suits you, simply close Legacy and
estart. The window should now open at whatever the last size was.

I click on technical support link that is at the bottom of the email

Scrolled down the Error Numbers. Clicked on 3021 that was listed in my

 updated Legacy.

3 times on NO for the new name screen to open.
My tree version is: *7.5.0.112 Deluxe on Vista operating system.*
Not my choice of systems but hard drive crashed the night before and
Vista was the only computer system on ALL new computers.
I buy a new computer every 2 years. Love my computers and genealogy!

What do you mean by code 3021 didn’t work, what did you try and what
was the result (with any error codes please), also what is your

re. your second problem, try adjusting the screen to the size which
you require and close using FileExit instead of ‘X’ing out.

Hi Keith,

Thanks Ron - will continue addressing the issue. Seems I can simply click NO
and get around it - it is just annoying!

I think you missed something here - what Ron told you does provide a
solution that will probably work. Continuing to click NO and not fixing
the actual problem is not a resolution!

To recap, Ron said in his post to go to the Legacy Home tab in your
Legacy program, then Online troubleshooting help then Solutions by
Error Number. You can also go to the Legacy web site and go to the
Help Centre, which lands you at the same place -
http://www.legacyfamilytree.com/Help.asp#SolutionsByNumber Then locate
your number and click on it, and read what it says.

Most likely, in my experience, the solution offered that will solve your
problem, is #3 - run File Maintenance - Check/Repair. I've had to do it
a few times over the years when I've seen the same error that you've
reported.

Hope this helps. :-)

Kind Regards,
