Hi Jay,

Thanks for checking and precising.
But then (i.e. if only the table width in incorrectly imported),
there is a puzzling discrepancy:
why is the import result not the same on your system as on mine?

In the imported ODT on my system, as shown in the attached screenshots:
- the table is spread over 2 pages;
- there is a 5-cm-high gap between the first 3 rows and the rest.
In the original DOC:
- the whole document fits on one page;
- the gap after the first 3 rows is a mere 5 mm high.
To say nothing of the page margins.

These issues above are systematically reproductible on my system, not only with
the attached file, but with other files created with the same MS Word template.

Shall I create 3 separate bug entries for the remaining issues (row height,
gap, page margins)? But if they aren't reproductible on LO test computers, it's
annoying.

Have a good week,
Marc

thanks for the report. Pls do this via a (default) template and styles.

New spreadsheets are created with a million row and hundreds of columns.

But practically most time user don't need that many columns and rows.
And having that many cells is an annoyance as the focus can accidentally go to
far away where there is no data.

Can you please provide an option to automatically hide most rows when user
create a new spreadsheet.

That is, something similar to entries at

As i've been in the discussion of bug 80640, i wanted to bring in all of the
stuff i've been reading regarding this issue.

1) After reading comment 2 in the OO bug report by oblomov (2002-07-20 12:49:18
UTC), i see that navigator with content view enabled is somewhat of a work
around for the issue. The only thing that would need to be fixed in it for it
to be acceptable is that after a text is moved, it doesnt collapse all other
entries. Of course the user would also have to set all text he wishes to move
as one of the ten Heading styles.

2) outline feature was asked in the dev mailing list in March 2011 <
http://nabble.documentfoundation.org/http-openoffice-org-bugzilla-show-bug-cgi-id-3959-Outline-view-td2637237.html
>

3) there is a wiki page up at <
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Outline_view > that quotes Mathias Bauer
regarding details about multiple layout work that was done.

4) there was another request at OO of the outline feature in 2003 <
https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=10868 >.

2) roryof at < https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=124984 > is

As the style drop down in the formatting toolbar is on the character level, it

Actually, I'd probably disagree with that, because as a reasonable UX
customization that has gained Design team approval, setting a custom color from
the Appearance panel is a very logical implementation. Additionally as Expert
Config remains a horrible hack at this point--it is really not functional at
all for efficiency of UI configuration. Especially a joy if you happen to be
using AT.

IMHO the Tools -> Options -> Appearance -> Custom Colors remains the most
direct and efficient way to implement assignment of alternate color to the
NON_PRINTING_CHARACTER_COLOR RGB_COLORDATA as manipulating RGB color assignment
to variables either directly or more often via enum lists is how this aspect of
the UI is customized, see svtools/colorcfg.

Implementing remaining facet of this issue probably rates an easy-hack
designation. But if combined with the automated adjustment of bug 78381, and a
need to handle display of NPC in modules other than writer it becomes a more
substantial development effort.

You misunderstood.

I said niche OPTIONS, not niche COLORS. Design is trying to remove superflous
options to reduce complexity, and IMHO adding a color chooser for non-printing
characters is one such superflous setting. If it’s so desperately wanted, it
could live buried in Expert Config.

Changing component to Writer as the UX Advise has settled on a new color,
Solarized Blue (I voted for it as well).

It works if you are in edit mode: type enter before left arrow or before typing
the string in the cell.

The current behavior allows the user to fill several cells very fast without
having to enter the edit mode. If the Enter key is configured to enter the edit
mode you only have to hit this key to be able to navigate inside the cell with
the arrow keys.

Hi Ricardo..

Sorry to hear that you don't understand. I'll try my best to explain better.

Fresh user profile = using new profile (similar to install fresh LO) = reset
user profile if LO default profile ever changed (in Tools > Options).

Sometimes user profile generates wrong behavior after crash or version
upgrading.

So in your case, Windows From Vista, folder "%appdata%\libreoffice\4\user"
should be deleted OR renamed to back it up (it's advised if you're not sure
deleting that).

Btw, incorrect result appeared when you type equation in 4.2.5.2 OR when you
open file that was saved by 4.2.4.2 ?

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 80698] New: Adding style drop down to sidebar

2014-06-29 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=80698

  Priority: medium
Bug ID: 80698
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
Summary: Adding style drop down to sidebar
  Severity: enhancement
Classification: Unclassified
OS: All
  Reporter: philip...@hotmail.com
  Hardware: Other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
   Version: unspecified
 Component: Writer
   Product: LibreOffice

The properties tab of the sidebar has everything in the formatting toolbar
except the style drop down, so it would be nice to have it included, so i can
hide the toolbar. I know its possible to switch to the styles and formatting
tab in the sidebar, but i find it frustrating jumping back and forth between
the tabs, just to change the style.

  Reporter: st...@edmondsfamily.co.nz
  Hardware: Other

Status: UNCONFIRMED
   Version: 4.1.6.2 release
 Component: Libreoffice
   Product: LibreOffice

Problem description:
I just updated from LO 3.6 to 4.1.6 on OSX 10.68. 3.6 was working fine.
If I go to open a file from LO and navigate to a network share no files show in
the share. If I cancel LO hangs and has to be killed.
I can see the files in OSX finder (file explorer).
I can open a file from finder (open with LO).

Once I have at least one file opened from the network share (via finder) I can
then see files on the share from within LO file open dialogue.

Save as works ok

Steps to reproduce:
1. Go to file>open in writer or calc
2. Navigate to a network share
3. Cancel

Current behavior:
Files are not listed (not any file).
LO hangs on cancel

Expected behavior:
Files are visible, LO does not hang.

2014-06-29 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=80640

Hi Cougar,

I've been doing some research about the history of outline view in OO/LO and
will be adding it to bug 38262. During that reading, i see how you can achieve
outline view with the navigator dialog. All you have to do is set your regular
text to one of the heading styles you are not using, i chose 'Heading 10', and
then in the navigator dialog, click the 'content view' and then you'd be able
to drag and drop items. Let me know what you think. Its not perfect, because
when you drag an item, it closes all of the open entries, but i assume that
would easier to fix than creating the outline view in the document.

Hi Bernard,
Thanks for sending in your bug even though. My eyes are always peeled for the
next bug that will burn down someone's hard disk. :)

On a separate note, was skimming through lesson 1 of your LibreOffice tutorial
series, and think that you should update figure 1.6 and 1.7 as they seemed
quite low in quality and unclear. Would also suggest you mention that your
tutorial is for LibreOffice 4, as i think there will be changes in the UI in
the next major release.

I think it is in relation the "Times New Roman Font" and a direct format
applied, changed to other font the issue seems solved for me.

There is a font format over the paragraph format.

Maybe the file was not created with LibreOffice in first instance and weird
stuffs remains in the file.

If a character style is applied to the all paragraph text the perhaps would
better only use a paragraph style modified properly, this can simplified
document maintenance.

Hmm, you'll discover more features that are a bit different. OpenOffice.org and
now LibreOffice are not the same as MsOffice.
When possible, there is nothing wrong with making changes in that direction.
And it actually happens e.g. with Calc features.

However I explained the conflict of features that LibreOffice offers here -
maybe that's not the case in Word - that makes it necessary to choose..

When you enter a cell with bulleting/numbering, push Right first, and Tab next.

HTH and wishing you much joy and productivity with LibreOffice,
Cor

On pc Debian x86-64 with 4.2.4 LO Debian package, I could reproduce
this.
However, I don't reproduce this with 4.2 sources updated some days ago.

For the test, could you give a try to 4.2.5RC2
(http://www.libreoffice.org/download/libreoffice-fresh/?version=4.2.5)?

2014-06-29 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=80632

I wonder if this is a compatibility issue with a document started in Microsoft
Office? The document contains pages of tables designed for landscape
presentation followed by a short section of tables designed for portrait
presentation. Due to a clerical error, the section break was deleted causing
the portrait section to appear in landscape. I inserted a section break and
attempted to format the pages to portrait orientation. The result was the whole
document changing to portrait, not the current section as expected. Moving to
the landscape section and changing the page format to landscape resulted in a
change to the portrait section as well.

Hi Michael,

Thanks for your report.
However achieving what you describe, always works for me, when done properly.

I guess that it's best to first ask for user-support. For example there is a
group of users with a great variety of skills that can offer help with
questions:
  http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/community-support/

So for now I close as WORKSFORME. Might there turn out to be a problem in some
specific details, then pls reopen with those details.

Kind regards

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 80631] BASIC: Error in table navigation

2014-06-29 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=80631

Libre 0ffice is being  offered as an alternative to Microsoft Office. As such,
the expectation is that handling of table cells should approximate what has
been available since some of the earliest versions of the Micrcosoft product.
I would expect movement through the cells, with selection of the individual
cell contents upon each press of the Tab key. Embedded tabs (tabs internal to
the cell contents) are added in the Microsoft product using Ctrl-Tab. This is
not the observed behaviour.
I received a document written in the Microsoft product with a set of tables
containing columns for grading and commentary of individual results in the
columns to the left. One of the columns contains key points of the test in a
bulleted list before the test results.
As a decades-long user of the Microsoft product, l expected to be able to use
the tab key to navigate to the next set of grading and commentary columns. The
tab action did not select the cell contents but moved between cells until the
cell containing the bulleted list. The next tab key action added a tab within
the cell. This is the wrong action.

Hi Michael,

Thanks for the report.
What you experience is the interference of two specific behaviours: tabbing in
tables, and tabbing at the start of a line where bulleting/numbering is
applied.

IMO it's not OK to change the behaviour so that tabbing doesn't work any more
with bulleting/numbering. For moving to another cell there are other
possibilities with the key board.

Regards,
Cor

I have tired to copy-paste plain text from thunderbird and couldnt reproduce
the issue. The next time you see this issue, please do make a note of it and
what steps were needed to reproduce it and then open up a new bug.

I believe it might be a simple redraw issue and pressing alt+tab twice would
likely fix it. If that doesnt fix it, then i assume it a display corruption
issue caused by your graphics driver, and that using the proprietary amd driver
would fix it.

@Cor
my interpretation of jarod report is that he is seeing something anomalous in
his LibO start screen.

please note that he reported the issue against 4.1.0 where the starts screen
still hadn't the new look we have now in 4.2.x, and he says that the start
screen was different than before, while we now that it was the same in 4.0.x
and 3.6.x

so I strongly suspect he had some kind of corruption of the user profile or
installation problem that scrambled it's start screen look in 4.1.0

so I revert status to NEEDINFO waiting for his feedback and/or screenshot

PNG capturing difference between initial blue for NPC and new agreed "Solarized
blue"

The new Design / UX agreed default color for NPC is RGB #268bd2 named
"Solarized blue"

This clip shows that compared to the existing unnamed blue used for NPC with
RGB #6abed3 as implemented in bug 68071

As a default, the new blue is a bit more pronounced on both light and darker
back grounds.

When the enhancement for a Tools -> Options -> Appearance -> Custom Colors
control of the NPC variable NON_PRINTING_CHARACTER_COLOR RGB_COLORDATA can be
implemented this color as default should be completely functional.

In the interim, would suggest that the newly approved color be overlaid on

2014-06-29 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=80638

I confirmed this occurs with LO, Calligra Sheets, a Python script, and a Ruby
script.

This issue is caused by the imprecise representation of decimal numbers by
digital computers. It is a well known issue in numerical analysis and
scientific computing.

In all, the addition result is order sensitive with some orderings returning
0.0 and others the value reported in comment 2. Descending and ascending order
summed to 0.0 in LO. But this may be an artifact of this specific dataset.

(*) I see sum 2.13162820280E-014 rather than 1.4210854715202E-014 that
the reporter complains of.

(*) Sorting the summed range by either ascending value or ascending
abs of the value results in the zero which the reporter asks for.

So, the problem is just the natural result of using binary floating
point numbers while showing decimal numbers to the user. To
complicate the situation, computerized addition is not commutative.

IMO, using binary floating point numbers by default in a commercial
environment is a wrongheaded design choice: just look at the confusion
it causes Bob Bib. Still, it is a widespread choice, and I find it
hard to imagine that LibreOffice wants to change it. I am setting bug
status back to UNCONFIRMED to encourage further discussion.

Terry.

Since JBF has already provided the needed info, this should be set back to
UNCONFIRMED.

I agree that this enhancement request is reasonable, So I set it to NEW.

There are always UI/help translation errors in release builds. KeyID is really
helpful to locate strings quickly and help to speed-up localization.

In fact, if you look at 4.3.0.1, many languages are not 100% translated. For
4.2.5.2 release, there are still many strings need translation improvements.

picture tab 4.0 VS 4.4

Since 4.1, the Picture tab of the Picture dialog has a large extra white
padding to its left to center an image in the tab. This looks fine when the
dialog box background is white, like in windows, but when its grey like in
linux, it doesnt look good. Tested this on Linux Mint and Ubuntu.

This is an enhancement request. Change importance field accordingly.
Althrough the bug reporter should not mark his own bug to NEW, I think this one

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 80640] EDITING: Writer missing outline feature

2014-06-29 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=80640

Hi, Jay,

I've installed Kingsoft, and you're right. It allows me to continue using my
superpowers through outline view. It does not allow me to use my macro
superpowers, which means it's also an inadequate program, but macros are, to
be fair, far less valuable and powerful than outline view.

I'm going away, now. I'm going to stop trying to make LO into a powerful
program. Developers here simply don't care about giving their users
superpowers. Until MS no longer supports Office 2003, I have everything I need.
Later, I'll have to reconfigure my work routine around Kingsoft, which at
least provides me with my accustomed superpowers. Maybe by that time, they'll
support macros.

LO. I'm giving up on you. You're likely to remain substandard forever.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 80680] New: SOLVER crashing CALC under Windows

2014-06-29 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=80680

  Priority: medium
Bug ID: 80680
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
Summary: SOLVER crashing CALC under Windows
  Severity: normal
Classification: Unclassified
OS: Windows (All)
  Reporter: charlesl...@sbcglobal.net
  Hardware: x86 (IA32)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
   Version: 4.2.5.2 release
 Component: Spreadsheet
   Product: LibreOffice

I'm reporting this bug in the Windows release of LO. I have experienced this
under releases 4.2.4.2 and 4.2.5.2.

I’m using the solver to find the minimum of a non-linear function calculated in
the spreadsheet found here:
http://claub.net/temp/Solver-crashes-CALC.xls

The optimized quantity is a sum-of-squares error, cell A134, and the value in
this cell should fall to 10 or less. I set up the solver to find a minimum by
manipulating the values in cells F13 through F17. The initial values I choose
are F13=1.0 and the other set to zero.

The solver runs for what seems like a long time (more than a minute on my
machine) and makes some progress reducing the error. Then it, and calc, crash
and close. This happens every time. In the LO Calc solver, I have tried both
the DEPS and SCO algorithms and both only make very slow progress and then
crash.

When I open the spreadsheet in Excel and use its solver (the GRG nonlinear
algorithm) to perform the minimization from the same initial conditions (and
others) it finishes in about 1-2 seconds and never crashes. This seems to
indicate that the minimization problem itself is not the cause of the crashing
behavior. Also, I reported this bug on another forum, and a user there could
not reproduce the crash under GNU/Linux running LO v4.1 and v4.2 so it might be
a LO Windows build-specific problem.

Thanks,

Charlie
