From: Perry Frayn [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Subject: Rh 7.2 on 30GB Lib 110. question

I'm having a problem with my new install of Redhat 7.2 on my 30 Gb drive.
The libretto is set up to dual boot Win 98 and RedHat 7.2.

My partition info is

/tmp/hda1 11012 Win95FAT32
/tmp/hda2 1013 1017 Linux(boot)
/tmp/hda3 1029 1045 Linux swap
/tmp/hda4 1046 3648 Extended
/tmp/hda5 1046 2347 Linux
/tmp/hda6 2348 3648Win95FAT32

I would like to mount the Win95 FAT32 partions in R.H. so I place the
following lines in fstab.

/dev/hda1 /dosc vfatdefaults 0 0
/dev/hda6 /dosd vfatdefaults 0 0

/dosc mounts ok

/dosd gives the error

mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/hda6, or too many
mounted file systems
Ok, I got it!

Drive D: worked fine in Windows 98 but would not mount in RH7.2 .

Looking at the D: partition with Partition Magic showed that it was not
formated, even though it had been formatted with Windows.

I reformatted the D: drive with Partition Magic and everything is now a ok.

Ok on the the next glitch.

regards, Perry

I'm not sure if its a problem with the XF86Config or a User Interface

First of all,

Can you tell if your cursor can move off the bottom of the screen? If so,
then you might be running in 800 x 600 mode and the gnome panel is actually
off the visible edge of the screen.

Otherwise, if your screen is properly initialized in 800x480, then you will
have to look at your X setup (not the X server itself).

Try creating a file called .xinitrc in your home directory, and writing
'gnome-session' in it. Or, you can test by manually invoking the gnome
taskbar (gnome-panel is the command, iirc).

If you still want, I have my XF86Config handy ... which version are you
using (I'm running 4.1.0, I think).

[LIB] Lib 50 won't recognize a new 4.3G hard drive

Subject: Lib 50 won't recognize a new 4.3G hard drive

I am trying to install a 4.3G hard drive (Toshiba MK4313MAT) in my
Libretto 50 and cannot get the machine to recognize it.
When I use the Win95 Setup Boot Disk (and press F12), it starts to set up
Windows, but then says Setup cannot install Win95 on your computer. Your
computer does not have a hard disk... Exiting gets me to an A prompt,
but I cannot get to a C prompt or attempt to format the C drive (Invalid
drive specification).
I can get to the System Setup (BIOS Version 6.60) by pressing F1 after
booting without the FDD, but it shows No Drive under Hard Disk and will
not permit a change.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Just meant that if I recall correctly Ignore that. :)

Attached is my XF86Config. I have a 100CT, but that shouldn't make a
difference. The biggest change I made to this was that I added a modeline
for 800x480, and told XFree86 to ignore 'invalid' or unrecognized modes.

I take it you haven't had the hard drive in upside-down like someone else in this list
did? Alternatively, try the hard drive in another computer (if you don't have a laptop
at your disposal you can get an adapter from your local computer store for no more
than $10 that'll let you run it in a desktop) ... make sure that the hard drive itself
is useable.

Hope this helps!

Hmm, is there any way you can send the output of your X server as it starts
up? My setup is fairly standard, and I found the log file here:

/var/log/XFree86.0.log

That output would be really helpful. If your X server is indeed using my
XFree86 config, either it's rejecting the modeline or it's somehow reverting
to 800x600 (which is not defined at all in my XF86Config). Something's up
...
