I certainly wouldn't expect that, least of all from a person sounding
like you.
Last time I asked, I got only one reply. The person had it for $80, used,
and the price was non-negotiable as "you can find these for $200 on the
internet, I feel this is a very reasonable price."

Ram doublers are shit, as anyone who's tried them knows. I'm just sick of
many things, expecially people saying "I have a (insert model of $2000 camera
here) camera and I have no problems downloading pictures from it's internal
hard drive via USB. I don't understand why you're having problems with your
$100 camera and serial cable. Perhaps your solution is to buy another camera?"
The problem is this stupid little libretto. And this is exactly why I'm
selling it right now. I know it's dropping in value. And I'll be glad to be
rid of it.
But with a complete array of accessories, and a brand new battery, I
doubt it'll be worth as little as you believe it is.

Interesting couple messages. So if you refuse to spend the money how
did you expect others to help you with your problems? Did you expect
someone to send you a ram upgrade out of the goodness of their heart
in spite of the fact the person may need it? Or maybe for someone to
write a ram doubler program for you? What were you going to do in
return? The prices are dropping for the 50/70CT. I'd sell it quick if
you want the kind of return you are posting. A complete 70CT system is
only worth about 250 now and I find them cheaper than that very
frequently. And yours only has 16 meg of ram. I'm waiting until the 70
gets around 150 then I'm going to buy one as a spare and one for
parts. Both will have 32 meg of ram.

Heh - observing that there are 5" by 4" digital scanning camera backs for
proper sized cameras, which seem to use a single row scanner as they take a
few tens of seconds to grab the picture (and yours for the budget sum of
only $25000 US), I have my eye on an old 'roll it along' hand held
scanner... A little bit of engineering (i.e. botching at track and a motor)
and I could have something interesting there... I could import images
straight into Word (ack, no , stop that!)

You know, not everyone has a camera like yours that uses CF. Mine uses
multimedia memory cards. I wish it did use CF, it'd be easier to xfer
pictures.
I also can't throw money at my problem. I will be making money off of
this upgrade. $100 for my toughbook and at least a $300-$400 sale for the 70ct
package I have. All around it'll be a better setup for myself. I may even also
use the money for a better camera for myself as well.
Why fiddle with trying to make this 70ct work? The libretto is just too
proprietary to have to upgrade. Too thin of a HD, too expensive of ram, and
too fragile, and too small of a screen. For some, that's perfect, for me, it's
just too little, even for a 110ct.

I'm packing my bags and moving. It was a fun ride, I'm glad that a
libretto works for some of you, and I'm glad some of you have a CF camera.
That's very nice of you to mention it, and suggest that i should use one to
make my libretto work properly when DLing pictures. That'll also fix the
paging during wordprocessing and browsing teh web, like checking my email.
Even with an ethernet connection, it's like using a 14.4 modem. And that's
under win95, with no plugins or other programs loaded. I have nothing in my
system tray other than the battery icon, and I know how to edit the RUn and
Load sections of teh registry to keep things like the realnetworks player from
loading. It's still not enough.
I give up as I haven't gotten anything helpful from anyone here about teh
low ram problem, other than what amasses to "why don't you buy a ram upgrade,
or a better libretto?" You know what, I've gotten rid of it, that's my
solution, and gotten a far better laptop, one that's cheap to upgrade.
I could spend $300 and get a libretto that's a little faster, little more
ram, little bigger screen, or make $300 and get a bigger laptop that had far
more ram, bigger HD, way bigger screen, and a faster cpu.
Hmm, I think I'll tell those who think I shoudl put money into this
existing libretto and tell them to shove it. I'm out of the game of spending
money on this horrid thing. I bought a brand new battery, and it's not doing
any good. I haven't even used it other than three times.

Time to wash my hands of this unit. It's served it's purpose, and now
it's gonna go bye-bye.

I use a Sandisk card reader to download pictures from my Canon digicam to my L110
(64mgs of RAM and a 4.3 HD). I drag and drop from the card reader file to a file
in My Documents, I can download 20-30 pictures of about 600Kb's each in about 10
seconds. This is about the same time as my 1024 RAM, 80G PC.

Well, all I'm doing is downloading digital pictures from my camera. When
I download, it takes 4 secs per picture to DL, then there's over 30 seconds of
VM paging, 4 secs to do pic 2, 30 secs of VM paging, etc, etc. On my desktop
486, with 128mb ram, 4 to DL, 2 to crunch, 4 to Dl again, etc. It's just
insane.
I have asked this list for help before in upgrading my ram, only to get
no to negative help and remarks from people. I have had some wonderful help
from some people who have sent me parts for free over the years, even when I
insisted to pay them. So it's a mixed bag of nuts here.
My panasonic just arrived today. I tested it out, and it seems on teh
ball. HD is blanked, but I just finished installign 98. It has 16mb of ram.
Not an improvement over the 70ct. However it's EDO SODIMM slot is what makes
teh cake. I took the 64mb EDO SODIMM out of a friend's Toshiba and put it into
this just to see if it'd take 64mb. It did! He needed it back as unlike this,
his has no build in MB ram and required this back.
So, after a week of burning in my panasonic, I'll get rid of this horrid
little Libretto and will be gone from this list forever. It was fun to have
it, but I'm sick of it.
In a week, I'll make this list an offer, complete with photos, downloaded
using my far batter laptop. If in 24 hours there's no takers, I'll drop it on
ebay, post to the list one final time, and unsubscribe.

Nothing personal, I'm just tired of it.

Of course, at the same size and form factor, there's very little new out there
that can match the earlier Librettos like the L110. Even the latest Sony U1
series has a bulky, awkward battery pack stick out under the bottom rear of the
unit.

Newer, there's the:
Libretto L1-L5 series.
Sony Picturebook (built-in cam), GT3 (built-in swivel cam) & U1.
Fujitsu P-1000 (touch-screen) and P-2000 series (built-in CD-RW).
JVC Interlink

Older and quite useable:
Libretto L100 (overclocked to 266Mhz), L110, & ff1100 models.

I'm still running off the L110 with 64MB ram, win98se, and a 30GB HD and
haven't yet encountered something I can't do on this Libretto that I want to on
this baby. (Naturally, within the limitations of what the processor speed can handle)

I head ya. I have loves my 70ct for years. I'm now tired of it and want
something bigger. I have picked up a Panasinic Toughbook CF-25. I'd perfer to
have a ruggedized case over a small size. Besides, let's hear someone here say
that they can drive their car *over* their libretto and have it work perfectly
afterwards. ;)
The biggest thing I've been sick of is the ram. I'm sick of 16mb. No matter
how hard I try, I cannot buy a 16mb upgrade. So, last week I realized that at
the price I'd pay for a 16mb upgrade, I can buy a whole fricking new, and
bigger and better laptop, with 1024x768 TFT screen, 233mhz MMX processor, 16mb
ram (it uses EDO SODIMMS, dirt cheap on ebay, $15 for a 64mb one when last I
checked from a guy doing ducth auctions), and 2gb HD. Plus, it has a built in
cdrom drive.
All this for just the price of ram for my 70ct?!? Screw that! As of August
10th (I may need it for a presentation on stage August 2nd in Las Vegas, then
that'll be it's offical last use), I'll sell off this 70ct, complete package.
New battery, both minmi and full port replicators, ac adapter, a 24x external
cdrom drive, and the buyer's choice: a 56k v.90 pcmcia modem or a 10base-t
ethernet card with coax. Both cards complete with drivers, dongles, cables,
everything. Everything's working perfectly fine, no bad sectors on the HD, no
missing pixels, even comes with a leather carrying case. (looks like a cd case
for cd's and a cd player, but is actually designed for the libretto by Targus)
If anyone's interested in my libretto, and is in the seattle area, I may be
willing to sell it for cash before that deadline. Depends on a lot of factors.
Basically, I'll call you, and you can come down and pay cash, and even try it
before you buy it.

If there are no takers, I know it'll sell for over $300 on ebay, probably as
much as $400. That'll be a better laptop for myself, and a $300 profit. I've
never been so happy to be rid of a libretto in my whole life! =D
