Well, I can't answer your question, but I can say that I have an
iptel.org sip account working with linphone desktop under linux, version
5.0.2.

But surely you have looked under [preferences] -> [SIP accounts] ? I
admit that I can't see a password entry there. So I am not sure that I
can help much beyond confirming that iptel works with linphone.

However, as a first step enable logs:
[Preferences] -> [Advanced] -> [Enable Logs]

Maybe post the log results here if you can't fix the problem after
looking.

Well, I know nothing about Windoze, but I too was confused when I
changed to version 5 on linux.

There are several functionalities behind icons which might answer some
of your questions. On the linux interface, there is a green circle with
a "\/" which indcates which SIP account is registered, and clicking that
green button shows a menu for any other SIP registeries that you may
have set up.

The dial icon also is new. You will see from the archive that I had
problems with a dial window covering everything else.

That sounds like sipgate... :-)

Anyway. I had the same issue when I had an "upgrade". In fact, the dial
window is still available via an icon, but it isn't obviou to people
coming from an old version.

I had Preferences->Calls and Chat -> show DTMF keyboard automatically
set in my old version, but in the new version the DTMF keyboard window
overlays the main window, so it is impossible to make an outgoing call
since that cannot be selected.

So it is probably a good idea to avoid that although I think there is a
new keyboard icon that I could have clicked, and then I imagine the
window would disappear.

Anyway, with that selsection off, there is an new keyboard icon which
toggles the keyboard window.

But maybe you have a different problem...

Ok. thanks for that. Not very intuitive, at least for me, but now I
know.

I now find it easier just to turn off the automatic keyboard setting.

In passing, I had a strange situation where clicking the keyboard didn't
send any tones, but in subsequent tests I can't reproduce that. That was
when there were two windows each with a keypad: perhaps I was using the
wrong keypad?

Those 2 keypads appeared because I was experimenting with the user
interface with the first keypad when an incoming call popped up a second
window and a second keypad when I answered the call.

Thanks for the work on linphone.

[Linphone-users] Linphone-desktop: can't make outgoing calls because keypad is in the way

2023-08-07 Thread ael via Linphone-users
My linphone-desktop under Debian was recently upgraded to version: 5.0.2-4

Preferences->Calls and Chat -> show DTMF keyboard automatically

I normally have this selected. But then the DTMF keyboard window
overlays the main window, so it is impossible to make an outgoing call
since that cannot be selected.

I will attach a screenshot which shows the problem. I cannot call
Mouselike because the DTMK keyboard window (which I can't move) is in
the way.

Yes. You need a Sip registrar with a VOIP gateway to the PSTN/POTS
network. Call on PSTN cost money, although not much, so the registrar
will charge for such calls, and perhaps a set upp fee allocate you a
number on the gateway.

See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VoIP_gateway

Duckduckgo for your region to find candidates...

Linphone allows you to register with multiple SIP registries.
Personally I use sipgate for sip/PSTN calls.

I think that I now understand what is happening. I was trying to modify
the wrong field. Mind you, it is natural to want to modify "company" and
so on, and those errors still occur. But I think it is another case of
absent documentation.

I really needed to modify the main name field, but it was not obvious
that it could be directly (re-)edited.

Some new data: I have only just noticed that the current debian version
has been dumping core with a seg fault.
gdb reports:
Core was generated by `/usr/bin/linphone'.
Program terminated with signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.
I will install the dbg packages and get a proper dump.

As I say, this is not a new version from git: haven't had time to even
look at that just yet.

Not so far. I fear that I not familiar with AppImages and I would need
to do some reading to satisfy myself that it is safe and secure.
I suspect that I would find it easier, quicker and safer to compile a version
from the github desktop repository, but I will need to find some time to
do that...

[Linphone-users] TypeError: Value is undefined ...

2023-01-21 Thread ael via Linphone-users
I am running linphone desktop under debian testing:

$ dpkg -s linphone-desktop
Package: linphone-desktop
[..snip..]
Maintainer: Debian VoIP Team
Architecture: amd64
Source: linphone-desktop (4.4.10-2)
Version: 4.4.10-2+b1
.

For a while now, I have not been able to add new contacts. I can enter
the new name, but clicking on the (+) icons to enter the sip address,
etc does nothing other than produce the type error:

(From the log)

14:32:16:665][0x557f8a81efc0][Warning]qrc:/ui/modules/Common/Form/ListForm.js:70:
TypeError: Value is undefined and could not be converted to an object

Linphone itself reports:
Desktop 4.4.10 - Qt5.15.7
Core 5.1.65

In passing, I have also recently found a probably unrelated bug: after
accepting an incoming call successfully, the next incoming call from the
same caller is not detected by linphone unless it is restarted. This when
using sipgate.co.uk as the registry. I haven't explored this bug
properly or collected logs so far, nor am I sure whether a "second"
call from another caller is also rejected.

But for now, lets's concentrate on the inability to add a new contact...

Yes, I think that is correct. Except when calls go unanswered for yet to

I should have added that I am using the sipgate stun server. But I am
not behind my usual router, although I believe it has a sip gateway
although there is no explicit option to enable that.

I have added this note in the light of the other thread:

An update: the problem seems to be more serious than I had previously
realised. I had arranged for a bank to call me back while using linphone
to talk to them. When the call had finished, I was watching linphone
awaiting the incoming call. Nothing. Linphone was displaying the sipgate
presence
throughout.

When the bank contacted me on my mobile , they said that thay had tried
the linphone number 5 times, and in all cases the call switched to
voicemail. So it would seem that sipgate was flagging that I was not
connected/present/online.

There was a time when I knew a fair amount about the SIP protocol, but I
have forgotten most of it. But there is a time-out for registration and
and an (optional) repeated handshake to maintain the presence IIRC.

It would seem that somehow linphone is failing to maintain that
presence/registration.

I don't have any logs to share. If I had expected the problem, I might
have enabled logging, but, of course, I was did not expect it.

I have been using sipgate without out problems for many years with
a variety of hard & soft 'phones.

This is under debian testing. I have not logged a debian bug since the
maintainer is following this thread.

I too have had troubles with incoming calls not ringing. But with a
quite different environment (linux desktop) and version
Desktop - Qt5.15.2
Core 4.4.21

Using the sipgate registrar.

Annoyingly, the few test calls I make from another device seem to ring
properly.

Just a note. I now realise that the "1" on the icon was not a separate
button, so I was just clicking on the contact button which perhaps
partially explains the message. That perhaps partially explains the
message.

The GUI is very confusing without any documentation...

[Linphone-users] What is a "contact modification"

2021-09-17 Thread ael via Linphone-users
I have searched for any documentation on the linphone GUI (desktop)
and found nothing.

The panel icon started flashing a digit ("1").
I clicked on it and this just hid the main linphone window.
Clicked again and restored the window. So no change in the normal icon
action.

Looked at the main window and discoverd the same digit showing for one
of the contacts. Clicked on the digit (1) and was presented with
the rather baffling
"Are you sure that you want to cancel the contact modification?"

What contact modification? Who or what is trying to modify a contact?
Why?

I think there was a missed incoming call from that number.

Weird. Can anyone point at some documentation or explain what this is
mean to mean or do?

Desktop - Qt5.15.2, Core 4.4.21 if this matters.

I think that you will be informed that that version is very old. The
debian repositries have linphone-desktop at version 4.2.5-3 at least,
so you should be able to upgrade to that. But I am not very familiar
with Ubuntu.

I have never used kaddressbook, but you might find some help in

It could be that you have not installed the linphone-desktop package:
I was caught by that and had something similar to what you are

Yes. That's the one running here. But you may have to
 apt remove libqt5quick5-gles
and then install libqt5quick5 instead in order to get working icons on
xfce4, at least.

The package needs to be upgraded to remove the dependency on
libqt5quick5-gles. I think that maintainers will do that soon, before it
transitions to testing.

The latest linphone in Debian unstable now works here, although
there was a problem with icons which was traced to a library
dependency: see +https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=979139

I haven't checked whether the modified version has entered testing

It is very different from the old version of linphone, but once you

[Linphone-users] linphone-desktop: How do I answer an incoming call?

2021-01-08 Thread ael via Linphone-users
I have just "upgraded" to the recent version of linphone-desktop on
Debian testing.

I would give the version here, as indicated by:

$ linphone --help
Usage: linphone [options] [command]
A free (libre) SIP video-phone.

Options:
  -h, --help show this help
--cli-help displays the help menu to use Linphone with the CLI
  -v, --versionshow app version
--config specify the linphone configuration file to be used
--iconified start in the system tray, do not show the main interface
-V, --verboselog to stdout some debug information while running

Arguments:
command send an order to the application towards a command lin

But linphone -v just prints "linphone". So that's the first bug.
I looked in ~/.local/share/linphone/logs/linphone1.log after turning on
logging, but no there is version in there either.

The debian package is 4.2.5-3 and has only been released in the last
week or so, so I think it is the current version.

But to the main point: how do I answer an incoming call???!
I make a test call from another device, and linphone plays in ringtone.
But there is no indication of the incoming call on the GUI and no way to
answer the call? Weird? What is going on?

I think that you will need to explain what "an other" means, and give
details of which versions you are running.

I have linphone 3.12.0 working on a debian (soon to be Devuan) system
connected through a Fritzbox. I normally use a wired ethernet connection
to the Fritzbox. I think (and expect) that it also works using a wifi
connection, although I cannot be quite sure that I have actually tested
that.

I also have a DECT phone operating through the Fritzbox connecting to
the same SIP registry on the same number (ie sip address). All works
fine. Someone will probably notice that version 3.12.0 of linphone is
rather old, but it works well. Also it is the latest version in Debian.
(When I get some spare time, I want to compile the latest git version
for linux: people seem to report problems on this list for more recent
versions.)

That is a bit controversial. Forums (fora?) are a pain. You have to
remember to visit them and they are not easy to search with standard
tools like grep. I am not sure if this mailing list is archived, but
if so, even a newcomer can find past topics easily. A forum is
also expensive in resources and forces one to use a browser or
wahtever. Use simple tried and tested tools when they are more than
adequate.

Worth checking, but those error messages don't sound like permissions.

aplay -l

will list the alsa devices on a system (see man aplay) and that may
throw some light on the problems.

I assume that you don't have pulseaudio on your system: just say no :-)
If pulseaudio *is* there, you could try getting linphone to use that
if it happens to work. Many people try to purge pulseaudio...

But I am not an expert on any of this.
