I have checked www.dreamworks.com and it seems they run Netscape http

Actually, yes. Try to change the port on the hub, ie stick it into another
connector. Sometimes there is a noisy port which does what you describe.
If that doesn't help, try to play with cables, look for loose wires, try to
replace network card.

that my favorite linux distro Debian supports Alpha XL and I am now d/l netinst.
I have also managed to find updated firmware that supposed to resolve some
issues with Linux install.
I will post an update whether I succeed or

alpha-xl MILO image to FAT12 partition you created.
4.7 Instruct ARC to load MILO from HDD instead of floppy.

that newbie won't know and understand. BUT, creating a simple insterface
that does that for him is relatively easy and I think that's what Linbrew

You know, I agree with you a 100%. As one who was the tech guy that did
install windows on new / old computers I can testify that it is the case.
Only computer literate people (read: proffesionals) actually do the
installation by themselfes, other people go to shops and ask to repair /
reinstall

I found the culprit
D/L the 2.4.19 kernel and unpack it to /usr/src
then change the 'linux' symlink to it, instead of 2.4.8
Then unpack the driver source again (so it would be clean install) and run
/configure then make.
You are using old sources with newer kernel version. that's why you have
those problems.

iptables -A FORWARD -m state --state NEW -o $EXT_INT -j ACCEPT
iptables -A FORWARD -m state --state ESTABLISHED,RELATED -j ACCEPT
that will eliminate that problem.
