INQUIRY len seems to be (errouneously?) hardcoded into scsi layer:

I forgot to write that I'm running a vanilla kernel 2.4.22 on a VIA chipset
(VIA Epia board but I've also tried an ASUS [also with VIA chipset] with same
results).
I managed to let it work once using the uhci driver (before was usb-uhci). The

I rebooted, (usbcore and usb-uhci were automatically loaded), modprobe
usb-storage, modprobe sd_mod.
I saved the log in "not_connected.log".
Then I connected the reader without any memory cards inserted and I got
"connected_no_card.log".
