not sure if this is relevant. It depends on how much work has been done to accomendate more vst-formats already?? But.. What if lmms did not save the vst-controllers, eg -that pesty binary-string in the vst-block, that all too often bloats to absurd size, and is unuseable for lmms, at re-open, but

No, never tried, but you may want to try changing audio to "Dummy Audio (no sound)" to see of the hang is sound related. Pasting the "Dummy Audio" line from another .lmmsrc.xml file is recommended, although it should fall back onto dummy if the value is invalid. ---
