Mono is a runtime/interpreter for CLI bytecode, not a language. You really mean
C#, but there's really nothing wrong with it being written in C#. The real
problem is that we are past FeatureFreeze and nobody has packaged it for
Debian/Ubuntu just yet, so it is not in the archives and will not be entering
Lucid.

[Lubuntu-desktop] One thing about menu-cache 0.3.2 to mention

2010-02-27 Thread PCMan
Although I changed soname properly, coexistence of 0.3.2 and 0.2.x is
not possible.
They share the same daemon but in these two versions the daemons use
different IPC protocol.
So mixing those two will result in crashes.
Please make packages for menu-cache 0.3.2 and older versions conflict.
LXpanel should work with 0.3.2.
LXLauncher in git can work, but the previously released old tarballs won't.
So, I'd like to request another exception for LXLauncher, too.
Besides, many blog posts related to Lubuntu mentioned netbook mode.
It's an interesting features getting much attention.
Lacking theming support can make the first impression and
user-experience really bad.
Since this is the first public release of Lubuntu, this is quite crucial.
So, if theming support can be finished in time, I hope there can be an
exception for lxlauncher, too.

Thanks in advance.

Type ftp:// in pcmanfm2 directly.
If gvfs is running correctly, you should be able to access ftp in your file

Otherwise, dbus or gvfs might not be functioning and debugging is needed.

Trying to install brasero aptitude just wants to download:
- brasero
- brasero-common
- dvd+rw-tools
- genisoimage
- libbeagle1
- libbrasero-media0
- libgmime-2.4-2
- libnautilus-extension1

That's just 2.7 MB to download (and not the half gnome-desktop ;-) )

hm, thats difficult. when i first saw mtpaint, i really thought it was too
complicated and yes, even a bit ugly. But working with it is great and using
it you have many more possibilities then with gpaint. Even if many people
are used to MS Paint, we should offer them more than some kind of a clone.
MT paint +1.

Right clicking on a menu item and selecting Properties, then altering some

MM, I just remember!!!

I don't like Chromium/Chrome on Lubuntu , the memory use is awful.
maybe this is not a problem if you are testing Lubuntu on 2 GB of RAM,
but for me, Chromium with 6 tabs reach to 800 MB of memory use.
Firefox can handle 30 tabs and still use just 250-300 MB.

The problem with OpenJDK is BIG.
http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=20087

They don't support it, and won't be.

I like Firefox. Chromium is faster when you use it on a Dual Core,
but, to me, right now with my AMD Atlhon 64, the differences between
Firefox and Chromium are low, really low.

This is a known issue of lxdm. Please contact dgod as he might know
what happens.
When lxdm is used along with lxsession, sometimes this happens.
If the bug cannot be fixed in time, I'd suggest use gdm this time.

> 3) tried to edit date/time settings - unlock button does nothing
Apparantly this is yet another dbus-related problem.
Using this feature requires both of dbus and policy-kit working.
You even need a policykit agent. Currently the only choice is polkit-gnome.
By default polkit-gnome's authentication agent is turned off outside Gnome.
This needs to be turned on in its desktop file installed ot /etc/xdg/autostart.
TODO:
1. make sure dbus is correctly launched.
2. make sure policykit agent is running.

Actually, it suprise me. I just load the alpha on a 128MB Vbox, it's
slow but you can launch application without problem. Is it the whole
desktop which crash or only the application ?

Me too. i ran the live cd on real hardware (not vm) wit oentium II and
128

MB RAM. i wasn't that fast, but it didn't crash when starting an
application.

This was with out any swap, it functions OK with a swap partition on the
HDD.
XChat crashes and Chromium just slows to a a near standstill, taking 30-40
mins to load a page (bbc.co.uk).

As I said, with a swap partition everything is OK but slooow.

Yes probably, or maybe it's the lack of language support on the Live-CD.
It's something to test when the installer will be more stable.

Do you have something in /etc/network/interface which manage VPN ? If
it's the case, network-manager disable the management of the VPN, and
it's handle directly by /etc/network/interface

If this could be limited to pcmanfm/libfm, that will be nice :) Handle
new features after Feature Freeze is difficult and a long process, and
we can't spend this time to fix bugs.

I don't think the theming is really needed for this realease.

For now, logout working good. Introducing a new mechanism now will need
testing/bug fixes. It's a good think, but not sure it's necessary for
this release.

Current pcmanfm2 git and libfm git versions now has a new configure option:
--enable-debug
When compiled with this, runtime type checking is enabled and compiler
optimization is turned off. This make the program slightly slower but
it can greatly help debugging.

[Lubuntu-desktop] GVFS issues and other bugs in pcmanfm2

2010-02-27 Thread PCMan
The artwork of alpha 3 rocks! Thank you all!

As reported in this mailing list by some users, pcmanfm2 doesn't seem
to work well with trash:// or others.
It might be caused by failure of dbus launch. When gdm is used, this
doesn't seem to be the problem since gnome seems to do something under
the hood. However, with lxde, this is not automatic.
The latest lxsession in git repo contains code to automatically launch
dbus when needed. This must be used instead of the currently released
tarball 0.4.1. Otherwise things might not work if you're not using
gdm.

I know that now we're feature freeze. However, there are plans to
update most of the LXDE components recently.

Targets:

1. Finish PCManFM2. (planned release date: before 3/20, deadline: end of March)
2. Add basic theming support to LXLauncher and fix its bugs <-- this
is required for netbook mode of lubuntu
3. Make a new release for LXSession including new logout mechanism
added by Marty Jack.
4. New components now requires menu-cache 0.3.2, which is not yet in
alpha3. (soname is changed)
5. LXMusic might work now in Lubuntu since xmms2 is updated in ubuntu.
Test is needed to make sure.
6. LXDM: this is one of the most problematic part, too. Need some help.

The most important part is pcmanfm2 as this is the core of LXDE. If it
fails to be stable enough before 10.4 release, Lubuntu will have many
problems. So I'll do my best to ensure its quality. Soon there will be
0.9.1 release.

The parts that requires most testing in pcmanfm2 are:
1. File operations: copying, moving, deleting, and trashing. (The most
important)
2. Remote file system support
3. Thumbnails
4. Volume management

So please test it heavily, especially #1. I'll try to get most
reported bugs fixed before the deadline.
To achieve this, I need plenty useful bug reports. Please help!

I can't reproduce it for the move to the top. You could try to remove
your config file and logout/login back.

But the transparency doesn't work for me too.

also be relative to other applications like plymouth, which break lxdm

I faced most of the problems the others reported earlier. Other than those,
 I noticed the following:

1. no flash plugin (earlier gnash used to be installed). Running "apt-get

2. no applets with chrome(ium) and icedtea. I use online banking and this is
a MAJOR issue for me. Solution is to either download & install sun's java or
install Firefox to be able to run applets.

3. In networkmanager VPN is inactive, can not "Add". I installed "apt-get
install network-manager-vpnc vpnc resolvconf rdesktop". After this, I was
able to use VPN from command line, but in networkmanager it remained
disabled. Do I need to install any other package?

Pidgin is IMHO no real IRC client and misses a lot of features and

mount them) + Drives and partitions will appear in the bookmarkspanel on
the left.

Apart from that, absolutely fantastic !!!

Regards,

Phill.
