Another minor point: the LATeX style that I am using is a tailored
version of "report". I modified also the corresponding Lyx layout but
was unable to remove chapter titles ("Chapter 1", etc. from the screen
(again, the LATeX style was modified to avoid such title).

I not sure I follow what you mean here. You want the name of the chapter
but not the "Chapter 1" on-screen? You should be able to just change the
definition of Style Chapter in your layout file from "Margin Static" to
"Margin Dynamic" and then remove or comment out the Label. Doing this
will make your Chapters look more like \Huge Sections.

If the whole tabular uses large fonts than probably you can put in

Otherwise you can by using multicolumn define the fixed lenght only

Look in ftp://ftp.sylvan.com/pub/lyx/ for the lyx-1.0.4-1.src.rpm file.

Read the rpm manpage. The basic procedure is as follows (su
root, of course)

rpm -i lyx*.src.rpm
cd /usr/src/redhat/SPECS
here you'll see lyx.spec file. edit it to suit your needs. the format
is pretty much the same as you were compiling the binary from the
sources.
rpm -bb lyx.spec
wait, wait more...
cd ../RPMS/i386
if you're on Intel, of course
here are lyx...rpm files

It's the basic rpm build process. I don't know if LyX would
act any different (like, putting some files into RPMS/noarch/
directory)

LyX Suggestion - Re: Pagination Query

1999-10-01 Thread Mr. Geepus the Sweeper

Hi!

On 30-Sep-99 Jean-Marc Lasgouttes wrote:

If you are using the book class, you can add (marked as TeX)

\mainmatter at the beginning of the main part

Now, I know this question comes up a lot (at least, it has recently :)
but I have a different question related to it, and a design suggestion related
to the related question. :)

Q: Is there a way to pass arguments, when printing through LyX, to get
those "frontmatter" pages to print? From the dvips docs, you can do stuff like
-pp =2-5 to get pages *absolute* 2 (in other words, if you start with page "i",
that would be page "ii") through page 5 (relative to the page *numbered* 1 in
the book)... however, when I try putting such things in the "pages" field of
LyX' print dialog I get error messages.

Suggestion: Make a way, via a fancier dialog or a way to pass args to
dvips (or whatever the user is using) so that we could print just the
frontmatter pages or do other weird stuff. :)

(I noted yesterday that if I have some \frontmatter pages and I request
to print page 1, I get *both* the absolute first page of the document, *and* the
page numbered "1". To get the real second page, I found that I had to do
"Update DVI" and use a shell window to print it via dvips; LyX would not print
it.)

So, there is my stuff... do with it what you will. :)

We should probably have a "look for files in the latex path module"

The problem is that LyX has a fixed number of counters for counting these
different entries. The counter for bibliography entries is also the same
one used for sections (or something like that). It shouldn't be that hard
to add another counter specifically for the Bibliography. Others?

Another minor point: the LATeX style that I am using is a tailored
version of "report". I modified also the corresponding Lyx layout but
was unable to remove chapter titles ("Chapter 1", etc. from the screen
(again, the LATeX style was modified to avoid such title).

I not sure I follow what you mean here. You want the name of the chapter
but not the "Chapter 1" on-screen? You should be able to just change the
definition of Style Chapter in your layout file from "Margin Static" to
"Margin Dynamic" and then remove or comment out the Label. Doing this
will make your Chapters look more like \Huge Sections.

i would like to regenerate the bibliography in fact relaunching the 3

If the whole tabular uses large fonts than probably you can put in

Otherwise you can by using multicolumn define the fixed lenght only

Look in ftp://ftp.sylvan.com/pub/lyx/ for the lyx-1.0.4-1.src.rpm file.

Read the rpm manpage. The basic procedure is as follows (su
root, of course)

rpm -i lyx*.src.rpm
cd /usr/src/redhat/SPECS
here you'll see lyx.spec file. edit it to suit your needs. the format
is pretty much the same as you were compiling the binary from the
sources.
rpm -bb lyx.spec
wait, wait more...
cd ../RPMS/i386
if you're on Intel, of course
here are lyx...rpm files

It's the basic rpm build process. I don't know if LyX would
act any different (like, putting some files into RPMS/noarch/
directory)

LyX Suggestion - Re: Pagination Query

Hi!

How to force LyX to make the all compilation

1999-10-01 Thread Yann MORERE

Hello there,

I'm using LyX 1.04

I use xemacs to create and update my bibtex bibliography,

But i have some probleme, when updating the bibliography via xemacs, the
next compilation under lyx does not take into account the modification,

i would like to regenerate the bibliography in fact relaunching the 3
compilation and bibtex compilation.

Please don't corrupt the subject line. Using Netscape Communicator,
use "match all of the following" where the "to or cc" field contains
"lyx-users" and select "move to folder" and you can figure out the
rest. It works.

I had this problem when building from the tar.gz, and found the
quickest solution was to extract lyx.xpm from the archive and place it
in the directory RPM was complaining it couldnt find it in (in my case,
the redhat/SOURCES directory.

worked fine. I suspect the RPM spec file in the archive is a bit wonky.

I hope you know how to use footnotes in (normal) tabulars (otherwise
have a look at the example files), for a float I would put the tabular

If the whole tabular uses large fonts than probably you can put in
the LaTeX preamble:

\usepackage{array}
\setlenght{\extrarowheight}{2mm}

Otherwise you can by using multicolumn define the fixed lenght only
for one single cell instead for the whole column!

Yes, you're right. Check the lyx.spec file which comes with
the sources and you'll see. Look for rpmdir=/var/... or
something like that.

On the other hand, instmon (http://www.freshmeat.net and

it's able to make .rpm from of the installed program.

Read the rpm manpage. The basic procedure is as follows (su
root, of course)

rpm -i lyx*.src.rpm
cd /usr/src/redhat/SPECS

rpm -bb lyx.spec

cd ../RPMS/i386

Bye,

I am not sure how to to a proper fix. To do it we need to know the

I perfect solution is of course best, but if we have to we can do with
less.

We should probably have a "look for files in the latex path module"
that features like bib and class latex can use. This module could use
kpathsea it that is installed, or it could look at envir paths or

It works if you reload your document. In german this is
