installed package not recongnized

2009-08-29 Thread Hao Wen
Hi all:

I am using ubuntu and lyx now. I tried to install Latex style and class file
locally by downloading the files. I have been successful in installing
article(Springer) class. But when I install some thesis class from
Standford, it was not recongnized in the "Document Class" Menu.

What I have done:
1. Make direcotry: /usr/share/texmf-texlive/tex/latex/Standford
2. sudo texhash
3. In Lyx, reconfigure, then restart.

The same procedure works before, but not now.

So what else should I do?

Re: Will Lyx run on Mac OS X 10.6?

2009-08-29 Thread William Bray
I am currently testing Lyx 1.6.4 under Snow Leopard, the official
release. (I got the binary from the Lyx server before it was taken
off; it does have the problem that Preferences is grayed out as a menu
choice, but can be opened using keys CMD + , . I have not noticed any
other problems with Lyx 1.6.4?)
I created a generic Lyx file, typed a bunch of stuff and let it sit.
After about 5 minutes, a pop up window appeared reporting that Lyx
crashed. My console report looks alot like the one in the bug report
(link below). However, Lyx did not actually crash. After choosing
Ignore, Lyx was still running and I could continue to type, save,
edit, etc, the file.
The crash reoccurs about every 5 minutes, which does correspond to the
autosave time set in preferences.
I turned off autosave and Lyx has not sent up another crash pop up as
yet (we are about 15 minutes in at this point.

This is just a follow up to the question of Knaus. I am going to
continue to use Lyx under Snow Leopard and see where it takes me.

Anyway, I'll test it and post it here.

We are a bit short on Mac developers, so I doubt that you'll get an
authorative answer.

But, the good news is that I've heard of someone running LyX on
Snowleopard, the bad news is that I heard this by means of a bug
report:

http://www.lyx.org/trac/ticket/6168.

So, it'll be interesting whether this crash actually has to do
something

with Snowleopard or not.

Sorry thanks I have found it.

I am using \setlength{\marginparwidth}{length}, which seems to be working!

Now I just need to find out how to work these custom insets!

Looking again at Sec 4.3 of the EmbeddedObjects Manual, I see how to
do the left-hand margin.

However, I still cannot find how to extend the margin text length.

Thanks,

Jasper

Have you already had a look at sec. 4.3 "Margin Notes" of the EmbeddedObjects manual that you find
in LyX's Help menu? I guess what you want is described there.

OK, I checked the permissions, there was a fault now everything ist perfect.
The reason why I don't upgrade ist that Lyx with teTeX 2.02 is much faster to
produce pdfs than all newer versions!
My typical files have 200 pages and >100 eps figures.
I discussed this rather strange behavior a couple of years ago and decided to
stick to the old lyx
(http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.editors.lyx.general/34234/focus=34251)

Marginnote Package

2009-08-29 Thread Jasper Diego-Story
I am looking to use margin notes, and the functionality I am seeking
seems to extend beyond the standard marginpar command, so I am using
the marginnote package.

I am looking to have margin notes on both sides, on a single-sided
document in the book class. I cannot quite seem to see how this works,
however. For margin notes on the right, I use \marginnote{text here}
for margins on the right. I cannot seem to get marginnotes on the left
hand side — \marginnote[text here] does not seem to work either. I
have consulted the marginnote documentation.

I cannot seem to change the width of the marginnotes. I have tried
marginparwidth with normal margin notes, and that works. But when I
load marginnote, it doesn't. So I have tried, as per the
documentation, to use \edef\marginnotetextwidth{\the\textwidth}. That
just seems to move the horizontal placement of the marginnote, not the
width of the note.

Finally, can I make a custom inset for left-hand-side margin notes? I
will be using both left and right margin notes quite often, so it
would be nice to have the clickable-box that you get with a custom
inset. I am not quite sure how I would do this.

Thank you for considering my questions,

Regards

Jasper

Does that mean that you are using teTeX 2.02? If so it is highly recommended to use TeXLive instead.
teTeX is not maintained since a few years and the teTeX author recommended to use TeXLive.
Concerning your special problem, I cannot help you as it looks like a file permission problem in
your Suse version. It might disappear when using TeXLive or when upgrading from Suse 9.1 to a more
recent version.

Problems with new font

2009-08-29 Thread Robert Neumann
Hello,
I installed a new font in my LaTeX 2.02 on a Suse Linux 9.1 The creation of all
the necessary files worked fine.
I did all the installation of files as root, but all files are readable to all
users.
When I use Lyx as root it works fine and I can create a pdf.
But as soon as I log in as normal user I cannot create a pdf with lyx directly,
I get an error message, which just tells me, that there was a fault executing

When I export it as dvi and use dvips file.ps it works.

My files are in the following directories:

I added "p +llc.map" in the config.ps file in var/lib/texmf/dvips/config
I added a file llc.map in the same directory, this file contains the line
llcr8r LucidaCasual "TeXBase1Encoding ReEncodeFont" <8r.enc

This does not allow me to pass optional arguments to \vref, to produce "see
