again: nomenclature convertion
I had posted earlier already a nomenclature Error (was: Error 84 returned from iconv when converting from UCS-4LE to ISO-8859-15:) and filed a bug. I ran now into another such case, this time just a comma (see in the following) subkutan von lateinisch sub‚ unter und ... ---^--- again the error occurs only if the character is in a glossary item, not, if it is in normal text of the document. as far as I understand the bug reports, it won't be fixed for the time beeing. So my question is, how can I check a text for unsuited coding of characters? Taking away half of the text, check the remaining for the error to occur or not, and so on takes quite some time, especially if it turns finally out to be just a comma. Tennessee Carmel-Veilleux recommended the program regexbuddy. Or are there alternatives? Thanks, Wolfgang

I want to change the absolute path of the figures that I insert (the 90% of them as a float) to a relative path, since I'm working from differents computers and syncing the files with dropbox. I have found precisely this info in these help files, but I'm doing something wrong, since it is not working as expected. This is *exactly* the way I'm writing my thesis. It works fine, though I won't call it elegant. If it's safe to assume your document and image files all live within a shared logical root in your Dropbox directory, and all .lyx files will be in either the single directory or a uniform directory structure, you can just edit the file path of the target image in the Graphics dialogue. That is, + doc root is /Users/justin/Dropbox/_PhD/thesis + image files are then under thesis/_src/images/ + lyx files are in structure thesis/chapters/ch1/ So once inserting the image file through the Graphics dialogue in an example file under thesis/chapters/ch1/chapter1.lyx — which will use the full, system-specific file path — you then edit it to be a relative path. If example image file is /Users/justin/Dropbox/_PhD/thesis/_src/images/AR4/Fig7.20-aerosol_effects_schematic-semi-direct.png then it should be changed to traverse (in my case) two directories back to the shared root using the standard OS ../ pointer. * ../../*_src/images/AR4/Fig7.20-aerosol_effects_schematic-semi-direct.png Hope that makes sense. btw, I am using LyX version 1.6.7,so the path idicated in the first link: Layout - Document - Praeamble, is the same as Document - Settings - LaTeX Preamble, which is the only one I've found ? http://wiki.lyx.org/Windows/LyXWinTips http://wiki.lyx.org/FAQ/RelativeFiguresLocation Thanks in advanced, MaDro
Re: announce: template to write Ph.D. theses with LyX
It is a derivative of my thesis template. Of course every University has its own thesis layout. Therefore the thesis template is designed to give the user a basic feeling how a thesis will look like. The template can easily be modified to fulfill the requirements of every university. For example to get the structure of your thesis template can be achieved by moving Acknowledgements etc. to the backmatter. Actually all lists in my thesis template is in frontmatter, I guess you mean frontmatter. Anyway, in users perspective; it might be useful if the lyx templates are grouped into three types (folders): articles, books, and theses. When users open new documents from templates, they will see three folders. We have already various article templates, but don't have thesis and books. So my suggestion, under thesis and books there are also several examples. Users can choose which one they can start with to customize. However, this just a suggestion that could be considered by developers. PS: I put cc to developers list. Regards Waluyo

again: nomenclature convertion

But don't upgrade to that MiKTeX-version because the installers for LyX 1.6.7 don't recognize this version. First with LyX 1.6.8 MiKTeX 2.9 will be supported. regards Uwe

implement nested commands in *.layout or *.modul
Hello, (I'm german, sorry for my bad english) I asked my question to the developers but maybe you are the right address. So can you help me with the following? I tryed to use *.modul method. I want to use Lyx nesting, but I have to implement a COMMAND, not an environment. There was another question: http://www.lyx.org/trac/ticket/6854 but it did'nt helped me. Can I use nesting in a COMMAND? How? if not, can I make a command usable as environment? other work around? If you want, answer in german :-) following just the minimum example OK, here is my example (child{} has to be nested): I want to do this in Lyx: \documentclass[a4paper]{scrartcl} \usepackage{tikz} \begin{document} \begin{tikzpicture} \node {Oberster Punkt} child {node {links}} child {node {rechts} child {node {unterpunkt}} } ;\end{tikzpicture} \end{document} My first step was to do this: \newenvironment{tikzpictureNew} {\begin{tikzpicture}} { ; \end{tikzpicture}} % " ; " Semicolon! It works, so I can use environment with the needed semicolon But I can not do this: \newenvironment{childNEW} { child{ } { } } to use environment and after that to use nesting in lyx :-) I think - one step to have it. Can anyone help me out?

If the latter, perhaps you could send him everything (or, if he is unwilling, zip it all up and send it to me). It's possible the bug requires extra pieces to manifest. If he (or I) still cannot reproduce it, it probably is something unique to your system. Also, is there anything special you have to do to trigger the bug, or is it enough to park the cursor near the end of the chapter and hit F7 (which is what I did)? /Paul
Re: Spellchecker bug
Emil Pavlov mail.bg> writes: > My friend has everything. I have zipped it and attached it. It happens > regardless where the cursor is. Btw, I have check tex installed. The zipped document appears to have changed a bit -- in the image you provided with your original post, the source window shows the cursor being the "Quantum correlations" subsection heading, with that listed as paragraph 124 in the document. It's paragraph 150 now. Perhaps more importantly, the banner for the LyX window in the picture shows "(version control, locking)". I have no idea whether that impacts the bug, but I cannot reproduce the version control lock here, and perhaps neither could your friend. What happens if you open the document without version control? (You might run the zipped copy from your post.) If the bug does not manifest there, but continues to manifest with version control, then version control is part of the problem. Other than that, I'm stumped. I take it this does not happen with other documents? /Paul

I have found precisely this > info in these help files, but I'm doing something wrong, since it is not > working as expected. If example image file is /Users/justin/Dropbox/_PhD/thesis/_src/images/AR4/Fig7.20-aerosol_effects_schematic-semi-direct.png then it should be changed to traverse (in my case) two directories back to the shared root using the standard OS "../" pointer. * ../../*_src/images/AR4/Fig7.20-aerosol_effects_schematic-semi-direct.png Hope that makes sense. > btw, I am using LyX version 1.6.7,so the path idicated in the first link: > Layout > -> Document -> Praeamble, is the same as Document -> Settings -> LaTeX > Preamble, which is the only one I've found ? > > http://wiki.lyx.org/Windows/LyXWinTips > > http://wiki.lyx.org/FAQ/RelativeFiguresLocation > > Thanks in advanced, > > MaDro >
