Weird X display
Since I tried to swich to a frame buffered graphical display, following all steps described in the Framebuffer and Radeon pages of the gentoo wiki, all I get is a display of vertical colored stripes, the pointer appearing as a square. Knowned problem ? where should I look in the arcane config of FB, X and radeon (my graphic card is an ATI 3600)? I'm desperate.

I'm pretty sure he meant "Document Object Model", or DOM, the object hierarchy used to express HTML web pages. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Document_Object_Model http://www.w3.org/DOM/ DOM forms an in-memory tree, and has functions to locate the current node's first child, last child, next sibling, previous sibling, and parent. Using those, if you think of the current node as a "checker" you can move throughout the tree, you can get anywhere using those five functions. What's also ultra-cool about it is you can recurse the tree with an iterative loop -- very cool. Using DOM, instead of doing complex algorithms with stacks in order to do everything in one pass, you can have a second, third, fourth, infinitieth byte of the apple, traversing the tree over and over again, doing one little task each time, often with later traverses dependent on the changes made by the earlier. But each of these nodes takes memory, and using DOM as opposed to SAX (an event driven parse method for HTML/XML) will outrun memory at a certain document size. HTH SteveT

text in the body--Otherwise it doesn't make any sense (to me), e.g. it

Wolfgang Try compiling without adding anything to the preamble. To note simply states that these packages should be installed on your system. "was" is obviously installed, and it consists of the style files "fixmath", "gensymb", etc. as you have observed. One of these must be needed by the Math manual. But in fact you should not need to edit anything within that file in order to get it to compile. (if you do get compile errors, please report them of course!) Cheers, Julien

Songbook?
Hello I am new to lyx and is using it to write reports and other documents with many math-formulas. Today I came over this songbook layout: http://wiki.lyx.org/Layouts/Songbook This would be a great tool and I could use lyx to something more than school. The problem is I cant get this to work. I am using lyx in windows 7 and not linux. Have tried the instructions but with no luck. Maybe I am doing something wrong but I cant seem to make a new songbook, or get the icon to show up. I don't know of any examples outside eLyXer. The source code should be quite readable. I would point you to main.convert.eLyXerConverter and proc.process.Processor as starting points; there are actually a few ways to do what you want (iterate over Containers). It seems like there is no "force" flag for the Greek letters in "unicodesymbols". This means that Greek Unicode-chars are kept as-is when exporting to LaTeX. * This is good for the pdfstring * It does not work with "Unicode (utf8)" unless you add a `lgrenc.dfu` file for Greek Unicode with the inputenc standard UTF-8 support (e.g. from http://milde.users.sourceforge.net/LGR/).
