It makes no difference what the caption begins with, so just go on using
cap: for figures.

How can I add unnumbered chapter into the automatic table of content?

2005-08-26 Thread Leon Chen
Hi,

The TOC automatically generated by lyx is very helpful. But it will
not include the unnumbered chapter, or section.

I used BOOK class in my thesis, but there is no such 'abstract',
'acknowledgements' 'appendix' 'user guide' formats in it. So I use
unnumbered chapter (Chapter* ) to title these sections.

It works fine, but the shortcoming is that they will not appear in the
TOC, the same situation happens in Bibliography.

Any comments for this? Maybe I can hand in thesis just with the TOC
without those sections, but I just want to be perfect.

Thank you for your attention.

Could I suggest that before a question is posted the following things are

1) Read the wiki
2) Search the mailing list archives
3) Try google to see if there is already an answer on the web

Also I recommend every user to get a good handbook on Latex as most
queries are more Tex than Lyx.

Please don't get me wrong, I am not forgetting what it was like to be
puzzled by Lyx/Latex, and I am as guilty as the next man when it comes to
asking 'obvious' questions.

All I am saying is that in my experience I have learnt more by playing
about and finding the answer by research, and using the list as a last
resort. Mainly as it opens upo things I never knew about extending my
perception of Latex's power.

However if you do have questions post away as I am happy to help out as
best I can (as many people may already be aware) as are others on the
list with vastly better knowledge than me. And sometimes when the
thesis deadline is looming spending hours trying to find out how to move a
title or include a footnote is not condusive to the stress levels and
the list is a useful 'quick fix' source!!!

I hope this is read in the manner intended.

Although some questions (or most of them) can be answered through
searching the information sources (wiki, mail archives, etc.), it is
probably easier for everyone if all collaborate to answer those
questions, as many times the answers are one or two lines long and
therefore easy to give. If all cooperate, the overall welfare will
probably be higher than in the situation in which each one has
compulsorily to search for the information before asking.

CAS in LyX!

2005-08-26 Thread Rudi Gaelzer
Hi. I've just noticed that LyX 1.3.6 has now support for some Computer
Algebra Systems (Octave, Maxima, Mathematica and Maple are the ones listed in
Edit - Math - Use Computer Algebra System.

This is a most awaited feature, and I often wavered between LyX and TeXmacs
because, although I'm much more used to the first, only the second has been
providing this resource. If LyX is now providing support for CAS (specially
the free ones), it's just great! That combined with the really cool feature
of dynamic rendering of printer-quality mathematical symbols could make me
keep on using LyX till the end of eternity!

Congrats for you guys that are integrating these really useful features into
LyX.

However, it seems that there's no reference for the use of CAS in LyX either
in the User Guide or in the Extended Features guide. Where can I find a
tutorial or something like that?

Thanks.

Wrong numbers of table

2005-08-26 Thread jcornuz
Hello,

First, thanks a lot for Lyx. I have used it for a 60 pages essay and it
has helped me concentrate on content rather than page breaks :-)

However, now that I am getting near the end and checking details out, I
noticed that I get the wrong table numbers when I export a pdf file. The
navigation menu gives me a correct output (table 1, 2, 3) BUT the list of
table is table 2, 3, 4 and the tables are always referred in the (pdf) text
as 2, 3, 4.

I guess noone will notice the problem (...) but I would still be happy to
find a solution, if someone has an idea?

Best,

Joël

Although some questions (or most of them) can be answered through
searching the information sources (wiki, mail archives, etc.), it is
probably easier for everyone if all collaborate to answer those
questions, as many times the answers are one or two lines long and
therefore easy to give. If all cooperate, the overall welfare will
probably be higher than in the situation in which each one has
compulsorily to search for the information before asking.

Just a thought.

Best,

However I still can not get a default 'fig:' content of the label,

Unless you want to use relyx then you don't need perl.

I suggest you go and get tex2lyx (info on the wiki) and forget about perl
all together

Leon

I forgot to add the placement location: immediately after the Part
command,

on a separate line in standard environment. When used with a chapter (in my
case, the un-numbered Preface), the ERT is at the begging of the text line
immediately following the chapter heading.

Thank you, and I have figured out how to do it.

Just add ERT in the content page, with
\addcontentsline{toc}{chapter}{Abstract} .

In fact it can be found at http://wiki.lyx.org/FAQ/Unsorted

One thing, should we use the {} instead of () ? I have tested and ()
will not work

not the content page.

Questions.

2005-08-26 Thread Geoffrey Lloyd

Hi

It is becoming apparent that many questions on this list are being
repeated and some are quite sraightforward for want of a better phrase.

Could I suggest that before a question is posted the following things are
done

  Great suggestions, Geoff. I'll add:

"The LaTeX Companion, 2nd Edition," and "Guide to LaTeX, 4th edition." I
have found most answers in those.
