Re: Printing from LyX on a mac

2008-02-08 Thread Stephen Buonopane

Hi, I've been using LyX for years -- since maybe 1.2 or earlier.
I've always been able to print well-formatted out-put directly from
LyX. But now on 1.5.3 I cannot.
I have dvips defined as the print command in preferences. And it
does print but it cuts off the footer no matter what I do.
I can print from the dvi directly where this is not a problem but
then I can't specify odd or even pages like I can by printing
directly from LyX.
Does anyone know what I missing here that I might be able to
recover my ability to print fully formatted docs in LyX 1.5.3?

I have never had a problem printing from LyX on a mac. I have not
changed any of the defaults in the preferences.
You might try printing to a ps file from the LyX print dialog and
then opening it in Preview. If the footer is visible then I would say
the problem is with your printer driver, not LyX setup.

I have had footers cut off when printing from other programs like Word.
good luck

cannot find styles (ms-windows)

2008-02-08 Thread Pol
I have just installed lyx with miktex on a windows vista laptop
Installation apparently completed, yet, as i try to view the pdf (through
ps2pdf) i am asked to install the fancyhdr style. Shouldn't that be in the
miktex standard package?
Anyway, the style is downloaded and installed (from the internet, if i
remember correctly).
Afterwards the listings.sty style is found to be missing. Prompted to accept
to start a search, I accept, but the resulting pdf file is empty.
Shouldn't' that listings.lst file be part of the standard package?
Any extra packages available for ms-widows?

Thank you

Re: Printing from LyX on a mac

Jamie,

I have seen such behavior before. It typically comes from a configuration
in the latex or ghostscript installation, not from LyX itself.
Unfortunately, I don't remember exactly where to point you for a fix. You
might poke around on the web for settings in ghostscript or latex to solve
this problem.

Good luck.

in case of lyx comments export to text file and count the words

Micha,

I've found that I sometimes need to hold the shift key down when I mark
text with the trackball (mouse), and when pasting into the receiving
application.

I've copied from emacs to lyx without any problem. Just did a test, with

  Worked like a charm.

Error while updating

2008-02-08 Thread Julio Rojas
Hi, while I was installing LyX 1.5.3, MikTeX was being updated. The first
package updated was "ae". The updater downloaded the package but an unknown
archive file type was presented while installing it. The file type was, as
you can guess, "ae". I tried from two different sites with the same result.
Did anybody have this kind of problem? I will attach the log:

2008-02-08 Thread James Sutherland
Jamie,

I have seen such behavior before. It typically comes from a configuration
in the latex or ghostscript installation, not from LyX itself.
Unfortunately, I don't remember exactly where to point you for a fix. You
might poke around on the web for settings in ghostscript or latex to solve
this problem.

Good luck.

James

The MiKTeX standard-package is too small to contain all pacakges needed by LyX. To get a ll needed
packages,
- set in MiKTeX's settings program that you find in the start menu the option "instal missing
packages on the fly" to "yes"

- open an internet connection
- reconfigure LyX

This will install all packages neded by LyX from the internet. Finally

- run MiKTeX's update program that you find in the start menu

Re:Harvard style referencing

2008-02-08 Thread Anders Ekberg
The same thing happened to me yesterday using BibTeX (through
BibDesk). It turned out to simply be that LyX had (for some reason)
lost the path to the library. Simply re-including the library solved it.

Hope it's something as simple as that for you too...

Hi,

I am having difficulty figuring out how to convert my references to
alphabetical (Harvard style) in preparation of an article. I have
been using lyx version 1.4.4, with document class article (REVTeX4),
citation style natbib (Author-year) and bibliography style agsm.
When I compile however, no references appear and there are question
marks where I would like the references to be. Before I was using
natbib (numerical) and bibliography style apsrev, which worked fine,
can anyone tell me the problem?

Many thanks
Jenny

Koma letter: make first page longer

2008-02-08 Thread Laurent Duperval
Hi,

I noticed that the first page of a Koma letter2 is shorter than the rest
of the pages. How can I make it be the same length? The reason I want this
is because I have two lines of text on the second page of a two-page
letter. I want it all on the first page, and it looks like it should fit
correctly.

Thanks,

L

Word Count

2008-02-08 Thread B. Bogart
Hello all,

I'm working on a long document which has a word limit. My current draft
has many notes and grayed out text as the text develops.

Unfortunately the contents of my notes and grayed out text are included
in the word count, so I cannot get a good indication of how long the
draft actually is.

Is there any way around this? (short of going through the document and
deleting the notes?

In the future perhaps a checkbox in the word-count popup that could
toggle between counting or not counting the contents of notes would be a
useful addition.

Thanks,
B. Bogart

copy/paste from emacs/openoffice

2008-02-08 Thread Micha
How do I copy text from emacs and openoffice into lyx under linux? I am trying
to patch together a few sources for a presentation and I can't get lyx to
recognize that it has something to paste in any way (marking and middle mouse
button or marking and using edit->copy).

thanks

in case of lyx comments export to text file and count the words
by eg wc -w file.txt . this wont help you with greyed out text though.

not requested for the first time. all patches are welcome :)

Micha,

I've found that I sometimes need to hold the shift key down when I mark
text with the trackball (mouse), and when pasting into the receiving
application.

I've copied from emacs to lyx without any problem. Just did a test, with
emacs running under X, too: left trackball button held down as I blocked
text in emacs; in lyx, click the left button where I wanted to insert the
text, then both buttons (emulating a 3-button mouse).

  Worked like a charm.

LyX on Windows Vista

2008-02-08 Thread Max Bian
I am using 1.53 on Windows Vista. I found pdflatex easiest to get what I
need. However I have two problems with it:

1. When I do view->PDF(PDFLATEX), it will ask me if I want to create the
directory for the output files. Is there a way to remove this
unnecessary user input?

2. If the pdf is open in Acrobat, the update would fail. Is there a way
to avoid this?

Thanks.
